These are not UFOs, no street lamps but saucer shaped objects made by
sculptor Marcelo Balzaretti in 2010 for the project Lugar Cero an idea of
urban art sponsored by Casa Vecina and the Cultutral Center Regina in
Mexico City. These “ Sculptures ” as Marcelo Balzaretti calls them were
made of polyester resin and fiber glass by him and suspended between
the buildings by special wires. According to Helena Braunstajen curator
of the project the purpose of this “ urban art” named Spatial Intervention
is to attract the attention of the people that normally can't go to a museum
so they brought the exposition to the streets.
Here are artist Marcelo Balzaretti and Helena Braunstajen explaining about
these saucer shaped “sculptures” in the streets of Mexico City.
