Warning: Possible Spoiler Alert

Ridley Scott is sitting in the directors chair once more.

H.R. Geiger is doing set and creature design.

Release date of June 8th, 2012

The storyline is rumored to take a lot of inspiration from Erich Von Daniken's ancient alien idea's.

I found these while trying to get the latest on the upcoming prequel to the Alien franchise. The word is they are bootlegged from a brief teaser shown at comic-con 2011.

Next is a possible synopsis of the plot...

SPOILERS!!!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!
SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!
SPOILERS!!!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!
SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!SPOILER!

Earth. Year 2058.
Archaeological digs in Africa reveals alien artifacts that proves
humans were genetically engineered by a advanced alien race (space
jockeys). These "Alien Gods" also terraformed Earth in order to make
it habitable for their human creations.
Amongst the finds are coordinates to the Alien Gods' home-world.
To Paradise.
Months later the Weyland Corp launch the spaceship PROMETHEUS and his
crew, into deep space to make first contact. Thanks to faster than
light travel a few years later the PROMETHEUS enters the Zeta Riticuli
star system. Humans are greeted by their makers, then transported
further into space to a scary yet fascinating world.
The Alien Gods are proud of their "children", their first creation to
reach such levels of intelligence.
As a reward they share bits of their astonishing bio-based
technologies with the humans.
But for one member of the Prometheus' crew it's not enough.
In a treacherous act he steals the "bio-source code" to Terraforming,
A technology at the origin of all Gods' powers, that could make humans
equal to their creators.
The Alien Gods may be scientists but are also ruthless conquerors,
destroyers of worlds who will not accept humans as equals.
They unleash on the escaping human crew their favorite bio-weapon, a
creature used to "clean up" worlds before colonization. But something
goes wrong in the process and humans manage to turn the bio-weapon
against their makers. Giving birth to a smarter, nastier, bigger breed
of gut eating creatures. Creatures that will be the demise of
Paradise.
What's left of the Prometheus crew manages to escape the doomed alien planet.
On their trail a survivor Alien God on a familiar ship with an
ultimate mission.
Bring the wrath of the Gods to Earth.

Prometheus synopsis leaked?

There is a good deal more to be found at the above link.

This is looking more and more promising after the disappointment of Alien: Resurrection and the abominable AVP movies.

Doesn't the world end for real after Elenin passes ? It sounds nice but I'm beginning to think there is no world

Very cool if the movie comes to fruition, but I thought in the first Alien movie, when the ship crew stumbled upon the egg lair on that planet, that no one knew anything about the Aliens. Like they had never been encountered by humans before. The prequel would indicate that the Aliens have been part of our knowledge since 2058. Maybe the ship crew in the first movie was just out of the loop since they lived on a long-haul mining/freight ship? Kind of confusing though.

Hmmmm, where have I heard this plot before?

I'm sure it will be visually stunning and worth the price of a ticket, and it's not like starving or sick children could have used the money.
I don't know how the makers of Monkey Bone, Good Burger, and Chicken Run can sleep at night.

edit- now and forever I gotta add Zookeeper to that list.

There is a lot of false rumor floating about regarding the screenplay, its entirely possible only some or none of the synopsis is accurate although the screen captures are assuredly genuine.

I chose to post that particular version as it seems to follow the few bits and pieces of comments from the official production and it was a lot more detail than I had heard until now.

I read had read somewhere Ridley Scott mentioning that the relativistic effects of superluminal travel were a consideration in the script. I have faith Ridley Scott will pull it off.

You have a good point, I'll be sure to order the XXL popcorn and send them what's left. ( I totally kid, I have been a Make-A-Wish Foundation contributor for some years now and sometimes I even manage to send something besides stale popcorn
)

I am in absolute agreement, I believe there should be quite a few here that should be equally enthralled.

Be sure to take a look at the website linked in the OP, lots of good stuff even if it is rumors and most turn out to be red herrings.

But the Weyland-Yutani company lie in several of the movies so they can get their hands on the xenomorph so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch that they knew exactly what the crew in the original movie would find when they answered the distress call and just let them go so that when they eventually came back, the creature would come back with them.

Add this to my list of movies I wanna see in 2012 besides The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers. Can't wait.
