Let's wait and see but this could set the stage for a mass uprise if these people do not get their food stamps. From watching the clip below they seemed pretty agitated to say the least. The video was posted on the 11th this month and I can not finding any info on whether or not it has been rectified. From the article accompanying the video, here is a snippet which a representative talked about the decrease in their budgets.
(Refer to link for full article)

A state spokesperson says what happened was out of the ordinary and unexpected but she said they don't know yet what went wrong -- what was the glitch that lead to this mess?A state spokesperson says what happened was out of the ordinary and unexpected but she said they don't know yet what went wrong -- what was the glitch that lead to this mess?

"Our budgets have not been increased, they've been decreased," said one official.

The office director admitted there were problems as he tried to calm fears.

In a statement, a state spokesperson says, "We have both state and county staff working to understand the cause of the problem today. We are working to ensure people receive their food stamps as soon as possible."

Why don't america just give poor people money to buy food and such instead of stamps, this stops any poor person saving up little amounts to have money, In the U.K we just pay poor people money straight into there banks or send a check in the post,

Can buy whatever you like. It's like a gift card that works at any grocery store. However there is a limit.

It's just a glitch, though this is Atlanta and uproars and violence over nothing isn't unheard of in this region of the country.

Food stamps eh?

Isnt that like socialism? What Americans all criticise Europeans for being communist and nazism?

I mean arnt you all brave hard working people that can Look after yourselves without state help?

That is all I have heard on these forums when it comes to America vs Europe.

So... go look after yourself no?

Oh wait, you actually do want state help? Well you cannot have your cake and eat it.

It's actually like a credit card; it looks like one and functions like one. You can purchase anything you like, except for alcohol and non food items.

That was a snipe that was a little uncalled for. Every country has people who are dependent on others to help meet their needs, and if you are at all aware of world news, you know the US is having a difficult time economically now.

We have a group of people who have never escaped "generational poverty", as well as those who fall on hard times temporarily through job loss or illness. Like everybody else.

No need to be so sarcastic.

You know forgive me for cracking a smile at the title of this thread. Sorry that was wrong. This is no laughing matter. There won't be any rioting in the least bit but Clayton County needs to make sure this doesn't happen again...Think of the kids...some kids.

well thats what happens when you take single chronically unemployed baby mommas with 6 kids from all different deadbeat daddies and spoil them with $200/week foodstamp allowances until they're fat and dependent on gov for $ and allowances for everything including rent, clothes, utilities, food, healthcare, etc then one day say oops we're all broke.

in a weird way the video of the earlier rmass riots, also reminded me of the end of planet of the apes.

Food stamps used to be coupons that were given to individuals/heads of households that were used to purchase food, but could ONLY be used to purchase food. They took a certain form so they were easy to spot for the grocers. The states wanted to make sure that children in poor families were getting food and that the parents weren't out blowing the money on alcohol and cigarettes and other things instead of feeding the children and themselves.

Now, it is given as a credit onto a card and the card is swiped and the amount for groceries only is deducted.

The work week at the Clayton County DFCS office began Tuesday (Monday was a furlough day) with reports that benefits unexpectedly ended for many food stamp recipients in the county when their cases were incorrectly closed, said Georgia Department of Human Services Spokesperson Lisa Marie Shekell.

“At first, we were not sure if it was technical error, or human error,” Shekell said. “What we found out on Wednesday was that there were approximately 54 clients whose applications were not processed appropriately ... Their benefits were not being added to their cards as a result. It was human error.”

So they blamed it on human error because they only had a four day work week?

Shekell said state and local officials immediately began working on addressing the problem, with Clayton County Department of Family Services case workers spending Wednesday contacting affected food stamp recipients and re-reviewing their applications. That review process, which the state spokesperson said can take 24 to 48 hours to complete, continued into Thursday. The benefits had been restored by Friday, she added.

But I guess they did fiv it.

There seems to be a downturn in our economy since the government allowed our jobs to be shipped overseas and also the illegal Mexicans to work in our country. NAFTA and illegal immigrants. Also, outsourcing. Yep. When we don't have work, it is a little difficult to pay for ourselves. It seems the government wants us to have to rely on them.

There is a debate in our country about such topics. Some Democrats in our country, current POTUS included, want bigger government because they don't want people to suffer in any way and so they create projects for everything they can in our society. Actually, we don't need bigger government. We need every citizen to step up and care for their neighbor instead of everyone only looking out for themselves. We need people to accept responsibility for their financial decisions. We need people to spend within their budget instead of always just borrowing and digging themselves a hole they can't get out of.

Then every now and again, there are families who have been dealt horrific circumstances and they need help to overcome them.
