your read correctly...mistakes.
More proof this text should not be taken as the end all be all! Men have been changing, adding, removing and editing for ages!

The sacred text that people revered in the past was not the same one we study today. An ancient version of one book has an extra phrase. Another appears to have been revised to retroactively insert a prophecy after the events happened.

www.msnbc.msn.com...

Scholars are tracking every evolution of the bible as far back as it can be traced...."evolution" means The gradual development of something, esp. from a simple to a more complex form.
The bible has been changed to suit the needs of men, governments, and rulers.

They have been toiling at this task for 53 years, so this is not some fly by group of people trying to discredit the bible, and they are religious scholars. Even they have come to the conclusion it has become a work of men.

But the ongoing work of the academic detectives of the Bible Project, as their undertaking is known, shows that this text at the root of Judaism, Christianity and Islam was somewhat fluid for long periods of its history, and that its transmission through the ages was messier and more human than most of us imagine.

There's 40 different authors of the books of the bible.

No wonder there's confusion, confliction, contradiction, historical inaccuracies.

Not to mention Jews, Christians, Muslims and so forth who have translated the bible many many times. It doesn't matter what any scholar says. Think about. How can anyone have an accurate translation of a religious text? We're never in that time period when the words were written down on paper.

I knew this.
Read the words in red.
You can trust Christ.
Out of fear of immediate reprisal for blasphemy and heresy,
they did not alter His words ...as much as some of the others.

AND we dont even have a 100% accurate translation of the original hebrew texts. Some of the key words (like the word representing god for example) have multiple meanings and interpretations.

That is why Jews have different traditions of explaining the bible, laws, and so forth differently from Christians and Muslims.

There are not just translating errors or contradictions but these scholars have found outright deception!

The Book of Jeremiah is now one-seventh longer than the one that appears in some of the 2,000-year-old manuscripts known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. Some verses, including ones containing a prophecy about the seizure and return of Temple implements by Babylonian soldiers, appear to have been added after the events happened.

They have only completed 3 books thus far in more than 50 years. They are being painstakingly thorough!
I can only imagine what else they will find as they go deeper into other books!

I am certain they are taking this into consideration....hence the attempt to arrive at the most literal, true and likely translation. Hence CORRECTIONS.

Interesting article:-

www.worldagesarchive.com...

Any unfalsifiable claim in the bible can be asserted to be true, as long as the archaeologists cannot falsify.

And of course, there will be people who insist that a wooden structure found in mount Arafat is in fact Noah's Arck:-

www.creationtips.com...

Believers will use anything to try and justify the bible's outlandish claims.

Well said....

I have heard and read so many translations of the bible that contradict one another that I cannot put any faith in the book. Even hearing different people quote it to fit their needs disgusts me. I do however, believe there is a "creator" and that EVERYONE has a right to their own beliefs and should not be harassed in any form for what they believe in.

I have also heard that for the King James version of the bible, he had sent out his most illiterate men to copy the scrolls, so that they could not read and interpret what they said, thus giving him the power to write it as he saw fit for HIS needs. I am not sure how much credibility is there though I believe something like that truly happened.
