We kill sharks for their useless fins. For "erectile dysfunction" soups in unsubstantianed Chinese cuisine.
We kill whales for their blubber. For lighting "lamps" in Scandinavia and Japan (Hello IKEA!!)
We kill Elephants for their tusks. For Pool Cue Balls, that we can easily print and manufacture with composite materials.
We kill and eat fish that are endangered to satisfy our Sushi happy hour needs/appetites.

People, start thinking about the health of the planet and instead of yourself.

Oh my, what a sad sad story, it certainly made me cry.
China, even though they are leading a technological revolution, still have a hell of a hurdle to overcome the superstitions of their culture.
They believe bile has health properties, and they also think taking Rhino horn will enhance their sexual prowess.
The tigers are being wiped out for similar reasons.
I think they really have a "small penis" syndrome, and cant understand why they dont just use Viagra these days.
There are foundations that are trying to save the sun bears from this awful fate, so if you are at all able, donate.

The lengths humans will go in the name of science. Obviously cruel and yet allowed to continue, it's hard to tell apart the humans from the animals sometimes.

This has nothing to do with "science" - this has everything to do with superstition however... the superstition they call "Chinese Medicine"...

we all know taking bile from bears happens. thats not what this thread is about.

This should be THE only proof needed that certain species can't simply be locked up and treated like "animals", they have feelings and emotions, a degree of self-awareness we don't want to acknowledge. I've seen dogs rescue the lives of other animals multiple times, I've seen apes pass the self-identity test, I've seen an elephant draw a portrait of it's self, and now we have this. Humans aren't the only "intelligent life" on the planet, let alone the Universe.

That's not science buddy, it's superstition. Closer to alchemy. There are much more scientific ways to increase stamina. The problem is, you're dealing with communists in China.

This is what happens in modern industrial civilization. We treat the planet like it is ours, we treat other species like they are mindless drones who exist only for our exploitation, utilization, and luxury. It is a terrible feeling when animals in captivity become so desperate they are driven to commit acts like this. We have gone so far down the wrong path, against the current of the biosphere, we have lost our connection to the wilderness and other species. We treat nature as an endless resource, an assembly line, and a waste dump. Our behavior in this regard MUST END AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

If someone stuck an iron pipe into any animal it would not live for 30-35 years it would die of infection.

They could feed it anti-biotics, keep sterilizing the wound, cauterize it? So you are saying it is a fake story too?

I live on a dairy farm and it sickens me that people treat valued animals that way. I never treat my animals(cows and calves with hostility. It does nothing but suffering and I would imagine it puts a lot of guilt in you if you are mean to animals.It also sickens me that we keep animals in zoos. I have been to a zoo one time in my life and I'm never going to one again. I know when I see an animal in pain and most of the animals in zoos are in pain and need to be in the wild were they belong. Its better for one to be killed in the wild or even hunted than to be locked up in a zoo for its life.

What a great world we live in.
