Um...Bears don't have opposable thumbs

Sad yes but to strangle something or someone you need thumbs

I have no doubt that there are crimes against nature but this is not believable and shows the lack of bear anatomy. A bear could crush, slash, beat, crunch, eat, gash but never strangle its own young... just saying.

Rules for lab animals, at least in developed nations, are quite strict. Genetic engineering and testing products and medicines is not animal abuse, if the animal does not suffer during the tests too much. Sure, some abuse probably happens in research labs, too. But animal farms, particularly in developing nations, are the main abusers on this planet, IMHO.

I understand the need to eat and keep our families fed but we should show a little more respect to these animals. im not an eco-nut its just some of the things we do are not necessary.

Many of us who decided that NOTHING TASTES THAT GOOD, stopped eating animals and are happier and healthier for it.
If babies taste great would we eat them...well they eat them in china to make men sexually younger ATS story on embryo pills lead to seeing that this is true they make soup of 5 month fetuses.

You said

This just shows how low of human beings the chinese are

What a stupid statement that is, and you are just one of many that have come onto this thread with their uneducated comments and damn right hateful words. Why do you people always put everyone in one boat when it comes to another country. Its such a sad, primitive way of thinking. America has done terrible things, does that mean that all americans do terrible things? Is that your logic?

Im not speaking of your family. So try to turn it down a notch and be objective.

Yes you are! Did you say "some Chinese"? no you did not. Your one of many people who just blame the whole Chinese for something like this.

Out side of North Korea, what country has had more accusations of Human Rights violations than any other?
CHINA.

I have never said that China is perfect, and they do need to work on the human rights of their people. But no country is perfect. Every country does terrible things. You go into Iraq now, and you would see what terrible things that war done to the people. Do you know how many deformed babies have been born due to the weapons used in that war. People are still suffering now, so don't talk to me about human rights.

Its to be expected they would treat animals with much less respect.

So, do you think there are no chinese groups trying to save animals in china? I, i forgot, you put them all in the same boat!

As soon as the countries starts to value life, and act like it, or even animal life for that matter, they will have my respect, until then....... not going to happen.

Don't you undertand! Its not just China, its most countries that do horrible things, to animals, and people. I have never denied that China needs to improve, but so do other countries that do terrible things. Thats something you just don't seem to understand. You are the type of person that believes every BS story you hear about China, and thats sad

You should know being from England. You didnt give us any respect in the Colonies, so we took it. And now have the greatest nation in the world!

Greatest nation on earth!!! How how long do you think that is going to last? Your country is falling apart. Also, i would like to add that alot of the hate for China is coming from people who can't handle the fact that China will be the next superpower. Don't you think its strange that since america's down grade, we have seem many more hate threads to do with China. Why is that?

I wanted to post a new thread earlier about "cat fur farms in China" - but considered the article which was linked to too upsetting to read with very graphic details. (Believe me, anyone loving animals does NOT want to read this).

On a positive side (the other reason i did not want to post this)...it seems that now in EU as well as in the States the import and trading with Cat/Dog fur is illegal.

I also found

moran.house.gov... from December 8, 2010 where the president of the US "is expected to sign the legislation into law in the coming days." (eg. making it illegal to trade such fur in the states).

Washington, D.C., December 8, 2010 – Congressman Jim Moran, Virginia Democrat, announced today that the “Truth in Fur Labeling Act,” legislation which would crack down on the illegal dog and cat fur trade has passed the Senate and is on its way to the President’s desk for his signature. The bill, authored by Moran, passed the House unanimously in July and had been awaiting Senate action which occurred late yesterday.

This is a GOOD thing. The only problem remaining is that still many dog/cat furs are intentionally mislabeled with "fantasy names"..the Chinese still have such loopholes to still be able to export those furs under false names.

I personally hope that the fact cat fur is now illegal in most (?) EU countries as far as the US now *severely* cut down on those Chinese activities re: fur trade - so i didn't want to post such an upsetting article if it refers to things *before* such laws were passed in the EU and US.

In other words: I do not KNOW whether the Chinese still kill 500.000 - 1Mill cats/dogs per year as was the case some years ago.

First and foremost there is no denying that the practice of harvesting bile from Bears exists in China (and other places). To say it does not is ridiculous.

That being said I must point out that the story of the bear killing it's cub and it's self is probably not true. The bear could have easily have killed the cub; it is animal nature to kill an animal that is crying in pain so the cub's cries could have caused the mother to come kill the cub. This would have been an act of mercy (in human terms) and is observable in any "herd" or "pack" situation when a member of the group is disabled and then killed by those in that group.

As for the mother committing suicide I find that part very hard to believe. Animals do not commit suicide. Not only do animals not commit suicide a bear could certainly not do so by running into a wall. The skull of a bear is typically three to four inches thick. A bears skull is able to deflect various types of handgun bullets fired at it and is certainly able to withstand being propelled into a wall.

So yes bears are kept in cruel and horrible conditions for the purpose of harvesting bile but no this mother did not kill her cub for any other reason that it was screaming in pain and her instincts told her to kill it; and she certainly did not kill her self by running into a wall. I doubt any of the events in the OP actually took place at all.

So far the other media outlets all reference back to the blog and that makes me very doubtful of there being any validity to this particular story. Not only that why would the Chinese media (state controlled) release information that would certainly bring about an international outcry over the abuse of these bears? There are to many factors speaking to this being fake, a hoax, or whatnot for me to buy into the story in the op.

I agree, just looking at it from both sides, you shouldn't generalise, but generally emotions run high on subjects such as animal abuse/suffering/ill treatment etc and so people will lash out generally spraying bullets across the area! Not saying it's right and I myself am guilty of it, just saying it happens.
I should imagine this is like the fur trade and ivory trade, actually it was the rich and funny enough mainly western rich, that got hold of this stuff and so fuelled the trade. I don't know if its the same with Chinese medicine, but I do know a few shops that are open locally to me so there must be a demand. Probably these new age hippy smear organic cow sh1t on me its good for the skin types!
I for one might start protesting outside these shops! Raise awareness and my local profile from psychotic highly dangerous extremist level to at any moment he is going to kill us all level!

My problem with this post is it is factually incorrect, we all anthropomorphize especially when we read a story we picture a horrible act that if being done to any creature is a horror. But we still put in a human perspective because well we are human. I have no doubt there are atrocities being committed by not just the Chinese but many countries and peoples toward animals.

But to me this is either a bad translation or just factually incorrect propaganda against the cruelty of animals and shows the ignorance of the writer and the OP of simple anatomy of animals.

When I first read it I was shocked (the intention of the post) but then I logically went NO that is not possible, until Bears evolve thumbs...

I feel slightly more ashamed today for our species because of reading this and seeing the videos. Truly heartbreaking what we will do in search of miracle treatments. It surprises me that with all the advances in medical science that whatever is in bear bile could not be replicated.

I can't stand to see any animal suffer as needlessly as this.

Shame on the people who tolerate this.

It does not fricking MATTER whether this story "is true" or not - if it brought what's going on there to the attention of people IT SERVED A GOOD PURPOSE.

The cruel thing is NOT that "the bear killed itself"...but what they are doing with the animals. Whether the bear killed itself or not..does it even matter?

What a truly heart wrenching story.

I am convinced that people have been genetically engineered by other worldly beings as some sick science experiment. We don't act like other animals and have brains that enable us to do horrible things for no reason other than to satisfy warped desires. Let's face it, we don't fit into the Earth's ecological system either. We consume and spread trash everywhere - even in space.

(Please let Nibiru be real and give the Earth back to the animals without the human scum.)

Humans are the worthless scum of this planet. We deserve nothing more than extinction.
I pray for instant karma for these bastards!

So, I read the OP, and I thought of my own kids, and I just finished a big juicy steak at lunch time, and I had a lump in my throat thinking of that poor mother bear. I was actually considering vegenism!

Then a more rational thought hit me.

Wouldn't that same bear have held down a baby rabbit and torn out its stomach, and began to eat it even before it was dead? I have seen it in every predator from housecats to mountain lions. A predator will pick on the youngest and weakest, and hold it down, and chew off a flank, or dig in for the juicy liver even before the animal dies.

That poor poor bear, would have no problem being the one with a captive meal in a cage, and taking advantage of it.

Nature is nature, just be happy we happen to be at the top of the food chain. It hasn't always been this way, and it might not always be this way! Don't feel too especially bad for the bear, but then again, don't wail and cry when a bear catches you out a little too far from home one day and decides to have a free meal from a relatively defenseless human! Tis the law of the jungle. Eat or be eaten.

Knowing the chinese they are probably blended the bears with human DNA to make the 'healing properties' more uhh whats a word I can use here....potent? Sure that works.

Bile Farm....disgusting.

-GM

They're doing this alot, in US, UK, around the world, just starting to come out with this, but its a black op practice for years. Blending human and animal dna, even brain functions, and putting through horrendous experiments, because the empire and Darth Vader's group are truly following/serving Evil. They're occult lucifreans/satanists, though they prefer gnosticism and illumination as their terms I believe.

However despite that, this practice has been ongoing, cruelty to animals and humanity by all the cultures, with some continuing in this day and age.

You would imagine that as each true, not manipulated, breakthrough occurs, society would be changed around the world. It doesn't work like that, the majority are controlled by a small group, and have no say. Various mafia thugs run the different slave pens. Yet, this must be meeting the needs of the consumer in China, or surely it wouldn't continue. And the world, same thing. We need to find ways to start to buy only from each other and not from corporations, put everyone corrupt in their place, network locally and replace the services and goods and buy from each other. So the consumer has a big role to play. The Empires of the world are only possible with the will of the people co-contributing or allowing. And the consumers buying.

I have no idea if this is a manipulated report or not, because most of the things they release is for an angenda. However, strangling/suffocating would also occur by just putting weight and crushing the babies neck.

Like i said before. I hate any cruelty to animals. What gets me, are the people coming onto this thread and blanning the whole chinese. It is annoying the hell out of me and just shows that people are very hateful. Its like they ignore the terrible things their own country does, and just focus on China because its the "in" thing to do at the moment, basically because people can't handle the fact that they will be the next super-power.

So many times on these boards i have had to put people right when they try and spread BS about China. I lived and travelled in China, so i know it quite well.

By no means is China perfect, far from it. But i have not been brainwashed to just turn on one country because of the media propaganda machine.

As for dogs. I love dogs as pets, but for hundreds of years, the Chinese have been eating them. The only reason why we see it as sick is because we have them as pets. But we eat cows, chickens, gots etc and some people in countries might find that horrible, like cows in india, but is that gonna stop people eating burgers, no.

How cruel

I've never heard of these "Bile Farms" before, and it's quite shocking. 12,000 bears kept in tiny cages in the dark just to harvest thier bile....and for what?

oh yea of course, Asian Men's stamina; and hope that he can still "perform" after he gets older. I mean have these lunatics ever heard of viagra? or multiple other alternatives, that will give you tons of free samples that work probably much better than "bear bile".

Seriously this story is sad. I just hope that this baby bear and it's mother are in a better place now, and hopefully the people who do this will be in a worse place after they are dead and gone. Karma will always get you in the end. That's something I really believe in, and it kinda puts my mind at ease when I see some people suffer for no reason, and others torment people and animals for no reason. I have faith that in thier next life they will have to pay the consequenses for thier actions.

Again very sad, but thanks OP for making people, myself included...aware that this type of stuff is happening.

Sad, truly sad, but I belive that the linkd story might be a fake. What draws me to the conclusion is the people in the pic. I see 2 blonde women, and last I recall theres not alot of blondes in NW china. Ok STORY may be real PICS r from a differnt story

Can I ask why they dont eat the bears also? I think that bile farms are bad and all that but why do they waste the bear as well?

Having eaten bear a few times (not a whole one, obviously) I can say that it's pretty good... so why discard the animal after the bile is taken? Why not kill the animal like you would a cow, process it to be eaten and then use the bile as a leftover?

you don't need thumbs to strangle the act of strangling is the compression of the neck that may lead to unconsciousness or death by causing an increasingly hypoxic state in the brain.

Manual strangulation (also known as "throttling") refers to strangling with the hands, fingers, or other extremities (sometimes also with blunt objects such as batons).

And note other extremities, so the bear could of wrapped its arms around the cubs neck and squeezed, or just squeezed the air out of the lungs of the cub till it could not breathe. So It is possible.
