Evening ATS!
Im sure many of you have observed the recent rioting and looting in this country over the past 4 days. Youths have ran riot on the streets, breaking into shops and stealing anything they could get their hands on. Even employee's stealing from their employers (Reference to the woman that got caught looting currys in her uniform)
The response to these events has been National. Many people taking the side of the police and rightly so. No one wants to live in a society where Snatch n' grab is a way of life. People have lost their homes, their livelihoods, had their cars burnt out - It is completely unacceptable.
Many of the people that are horrified by this are the tax payers. They are people that work hard, pay tax, abide by the law and have a good moan from time to time about the state of affairs society is in.
People believe these rioters should have their benefits stopped, be evicted from their council houses, put away in prison, lined up against a wall and shot and so on, all of these "solutions" are absent of any thought and give no positive change to this huge messed up situation.

Though the point of this thread to highlight that its not just one set of people that have turned British society this way. If it really was that simple we wouldn't be in this situation. No, the problem here is that there are to many Piss takers - Im not just talking about the chavs that sit on the dole. Im talking about MP's that fiddle expense's by the thousands, the bankers that pay themselves millions in "bonus's" Employers that ensure you cant say boo in the workplace and pay you the bare minimum - making you work like a dog in order to scrape your way through life. Im talking about police that take backhanders, civil servants such as city mayors that rent cars for ridiculous prices at the taxpayers expense. Banks that only seem to offer "Buy to rent" loans so that other people can be priced out of buying a home and in some cases forced to pay up to half their wage just to put a roof over their heads. Im talking about the teachers, that instead of teaching, sat at the front of the class and ranted to a bunch of teenagers about their life's (This my personal experience) Im talking about the over-paid and unnecessary positions of administrators in the health service, im talking about the price of higher education and how social mobility is going to be stopped ensuring that people cant dig themselves out of the #. The foreigners that come here looking for a better way of life and then decide to just abuse the benefits & housing system. The criminals that go around in the revolving door prison system, given 3 meals a day, TV, Xbox and pool table and then are let back out onto the streets without having learned a lesson! The Gas and electric companies who's prices continually sky rocket come the winter leaving many in fuel poverty, offering no concessions for the elderly, and then having the cheek to announce millions in profit come april. A royal family that costs taxpayer millions each year and demand more!

The problem is NOT the underclass - Its to.many.piss.takers. Thieving at every level, people taking what they can get at the expense of others. Biased justice system that treats its criminals like they're at the fking spa.
The decent hard working people of this country are getting SCREWED. The difference between these people and those greedy twats is morals. We might never go and steal a plasma tv because the opportunity is there but will ALWAYS be that one person who would rob you blind.

This is nothing to do with a "labour government" or "conservative government" this is to do with people being fking greedy and its that simple.

My question isnt "what can we do to solve this problem" my question is:

Did i miss anything out?
Is this because our society has developed an idea of "entitlement" or "hopelessness" ?
Do the rich feel a need to compete with each other in terms of wealth and so knowingly ensure that wealth does not "trickle down"?
With the failure of multiculturalism, communities are much more disbanded and detached, leaving people with a feeling of being "out on their own" and therefore trying to blend together with others creating gang/mob cultures that destroy any sort of remaining communities and replacing them with their own mob mentality?

ATS i ask you, What has happened here??

I think one of the main things lacking in modern society is RESPECT.
Respect for
Parents
Police
Teachers
Property
Others Opinions
Road Users
Elders

Too many people literally do not care one jot about others - bought up in a society where there is no fear of reprisal or punishments.
schools can't deal with unruly kids, through a mix of fear of being made out to be abusive, etc, to parents of these kids coming into school and assaulting teachers. When I was at school - if I got in trouble I would expect to get twice that once I got home and my parents dealt with me.
Now the kids don't care about school or parents.

Kids out looting - no respect for property, no fear of consequences of their actions - worst that will happen, some poxy supervision order etc.

We need to put the parents, teachers, police BACK IN CONTROL of society in the various levels they deal with it at - not the other way round.
The tail shouldn't wag the dog

I think its funny how many people think they know why the rioters are rioting.. oh its for this reason, oh its for that reason, its for whatever reason any individual rioter gives it.

The only issue I have with this is that in this country - education up to 18 years old is still free - so what is the excuse there? The only person who fails by not completing their education is the individual involved - you cannot blame the govt if these kids drop out at 13 because they are not interested in doing what most of the rest of society did and getting some qualifications to better themselves.

Then they're stuck - unlikely to get a job with no qualifications and in a mess.
But - again - if a person is on benefits they can still get free education, so once again there is opportunity to take courses in IT, Hairdressing, plumbing - whatever - but it is available and not taken up.

I also agree with this statement from the OP

This is what political correctness was designed to do - destroy the fabric (shared values) that hold society together - creating an isolated selfish entitlement/grievance mentality.

Because the New Left lacked cohesion it fell apart as a political movement. However, its revolutionaries reorganized themselves into a multitude of single issue groups. Thus we now have for example, radical feminists, black extremists, anti-war ‘peace' activists, animal rights groups, radical environmentalists, and ‘gay' rights groups. All of these groups pursue their piece of the radical agenda through a complex network of organizations such as the Gay Straight Lesbian Educators Network (GSLEN), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), People for the American Way, United for Peace and Justice, Planned Parenthood, Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS), and Code Pink for Peace.

Both communism and the New Left are alive and thriving here in America. They favor code words: tolerance, social justice, economic justice, peace, reproductive rights, sex education and safe sex, safe schools, inclusion, diversity, and sensitivity.

All together, this is Cultural Marxism disguised as multiculturalism. Birth of Multiculturalism In anticipation of the revolutionary storm that would baptize the world in an inferno of red terror, leading to its rebirth as the promised land of social justice and proletarian equality-Frederich Engels wrote,

"All the...large and small nationalities are destined to perish...in the revolutionary world storm... (A general war will) wipe out all...nations, down to their very names. The next world war will result in the disappearance from the face of the earth not only reactionary classes...but...reactionary peoples." ("The Magyar Struggle," Neue Rheinische Zeitung, Jan. 13, 1849)

By the end of WWI, socialists realized that something was amiss, for the world's proletariat had not heeded Marx's call to rise up in opposition to evil capitalism and to embrace communism instead. They wondered what had gone wrong. Separately, two Marxist theorists-Antonio Gramsci of Italy and Georg Lukacs of Hungary-concluded that the Christianized West was the obstacle standing in the way of a communist new world order. The West would have to be conquered first.

Gramsci posited that because Christianity had been dominant in the West for over 2000 years, not only was it fused with Western civilization, but it had corrupted the workers class. The West would have to be de-Christianized, said Gramsci, by means of a "long march through the culture." Additionally, a new proletariat must be created. In his "Prison Notebooks," he suggested that the new proletariat be comprised of many criminals, women, and racial minorities.

I didn't do particularly well at school, came out with grades between #C's and #D's - Education is free yes, but i wouldn't agree its flawless. They're are "teachers" that literally do # all, they dont teach, they turn up and piss the day away! My parents never pushed me to do better and although i wish i had, at 15/16 all i wanted to do was sleep! However, i accept its partly my fault for not doing better. So i still go out to work, i pay my way best i can but i see all my old classmates, learned less then me, driving round in flashy car's coz they''re all into dealing and #, others to idle to get a job sat on dole and the rare the few that did just as i did and went out and got a job. If i have kids i'll be making sure there education is exceptional, my family couldn't help me because they were poorly educated.
But seriously, did i miss anything? Tax dodgers?

Yup,

Respect is the largest issue here...

im not yelling bring back the cane... but

it would be nice if people had the fear of there elders that modern generations dont, not everyone but enough to make it a problem... im sure many people are happy to argue the idea of spanking being wrong... or the cane... or national service of the police being able to given you a seeing too when your up to no good,

but you all grew up in a society where these things were the norm.. it didnt effect you....
other arguments.. i was never spanked, i was never caned, i was never in trouble with the police... fair do's

im quite clearly not talking about you, you were most likely brought up correct and had a fear (maybe not the right word) of what would happen if you did push the boundries a little too far.. alot of people now dont have these boundries or fears so there is nothing to worry about.

i have friends who have been in prison more than once...they say its horrible, but they get xbox tournaments, nice tv's weights... i know its no walk in the park but it is however not much of a punishment either, for those who want to argue.. my friends are still criminals (not like every person i am friends with or the guys and gals i see on a daily basis but boys who i grew up with, who didnt fear the outcome of doing wrong)

im sure people will have issues with what i have said... and in my opinion they are technically wrong

Just my thoughts

You make a fair point about quality of education that I overlooked - very true - you could be stuck in a rubbish school or with a rubbish teacher. I therefore accept your point on that.

As for missing anything - tax dodgers is a good one.

You know I met someone I used to hang around with at school about 10 years after leaving the place - and this "friend" when I asked him what he did for a living, said beaming with pride
"I haven't worked since school, just sell drugs and steal"
Absolutely as true as night turns to day - I just put my pint down and left - why would I want to waste any more time talking to a complete waste of time, piece of scum, leech on society.

Very true - If you were ever to sit on someones car or wall they would come out the house and tell you to p**s off - and you would quickly. Nowadays you hear of stories where someone does this and ends up hospitalised or dead, because this group of kids doesn't know what right and wrong is - even when they are in the wrong and are told about it they react in such a fashion that leads to injury to others.

The point you make about prison as well - it boggles my mind that people who are supposed to be experiencing punishment get to enjoy luxury items like Sky TV and Xbox - things that non criminals quite often don't have access to.
This is all back to front.

I dont have issues with what you've said, what you describe is somewhat the norm for me and many others. We have friends that work 40hrs a week and live legit, we also have friends that dont work 40hrs a week, yet still earn a a hell of alot of cash through dealing etc.
But its getting beyond ridiculous now.

Of course Children should be treated with respect - a mistake that I left them off the list - but I suppose the point is being made about how children completely lack respect for others...are you suggesting that society suddenly started treating children with a complete lack of respect?
Because I would completely disagree - the post from JohnnyBGood makes the right points about "Political Correctness" that is also a really big factor in all of this.
The behaviour of Children nowadays is inexcusable and I merely highlighted lack of respect as the main reason but I am sure there are many other factors behind why this is so...

Yano, alot of people expecting these riot kids to respect authority but i'd make a bet that at least 70% of them come from homes where their parents probably abuse alcohol & other drugs and haven't done very well in the grounding of your kids as punishment department. Funny thing is, when parents dont raise their kids with values such as "dont go stealing, fighting with people, nicking cars, shoplifting in general" alot of kids just start to copy their peers. Its a rite of passage for kids to walk out of school and become thugs now, parents dont seem to care or know what to do about it. thieving has become an acceptable aspect of society.

Me too - didn't do particularly well at school (problems at home meant I left with only 1 O level I just didn't try, didnt have any self belief back then - however knew I was and should consider myself to be a self achiever, was always trying to move forward, saw others my peers get involved in drugs, crime and just give up - knew that wasn't for me - someone once told me at 16 we are all responsible for our own actions - even though it took a couple of years I did keep working and striving for a better life. It meant leaving all that nonsense behind and re-inventing myself - case of fake it until you make it, self belief. Seeking out the best people and influences I could and learning from them and then using what I'd learnt.

The education system today allows kids at 13/14 to decide to drop subjects like history, geography even maths and english (at higher levels if they can't keep up) in order to take subjects like tourism, media etc- lowest common denominator - not good for them or society. Some schools are happy to just go along with this in order to keep up their targets/get their funding.

Today I have tried to instil in my teenagers that self belief I didn't have then, pushed them, didn't let them drop subjects and take the easy options - shown them the world outside their peer group and local area, didn't allow all the gadgets, (no tv in bedrooms, no unsupervised internet, curfews and groundings and any challenging behaviour was swiftly checked).

Each one has to teach one - and this Is the problem, too many parents are leaving their kids to go feral the result being the sorts of behaviour we've seen over the past few years, months, days.

Don't let others bring up your kids
