"Amidst riots in central Europe that have now spread to London and a debt downgrade that threatens to plunge the United States into a double-dip recession, Americans’ lack of confidence in their leadership is so crippled that they are now “pre-revolutionary,” according to pollster Pat Caddell.

A new Rasmussen poll shows that just 17 per cent of Americans believe that the U.S. government has the consent of the governed, an all time low. This dovetails with a record low for Congress’ approval rating, which stands at a paltry 6 per cent, while 46 per cent of Americans think most members of Congress are corrupt, with just 29% believing otherwise."

“The number of voters who feel the government has the consent of the governed – a foundational principle, contained in the Declaration of Independence – is down from 23% in early May and has fallen to its lowest level measured yet,” according to Rasmussen."

Not a surprise. Obama gives a speach and the market drop accelerates. Now down 500 points. This gent has lost all confidence, globally, not just in the US. He will stick to his guns, drive his current policy, refuse to take accountability, keep his Treasury Secretary and the entire thing is going to go down in flames.

In 2012 you will have the most important, violent, divisive election in modern history, and likely since the Civil War.

Until this gent speaks confidently about some specifics, it is not going to get better. As long as he lets Harry Reid and Pelosi drive the agenda, it is not going to get better.

Were he to personally pick the Democrat members of the special committee and show some non ideological judgement, fire Geithner, it might soften the blow, but if he continues to give speaches loaded with bromides and half truths that nobody believes any longer, the ship is going to continue to sink.

Where is Jimmy Carter when you need him?

I hear that... literally

Just read the comments of any political article on the net. People are mad. People are mis-informed. When you put those two things together, danger is around the corner.

There is so much propaganda in the media these days, it all goes out in an effort to play the blame game and the people gladly choose their sides and spout whatever baseless propaganda that makes them feel good.

Sometimes I feel like another revolution is the only chance America has. Other times I fear what a modern revolution would do to our country with all of the mis-information, propaganda and out-right lies, it is hard to imagine we would end up with a better system.

Most likely things would go further into authoritarian control and more rights being steam rolled.

I think D.C. greatly under-estimates the anger of the people.

He was at one point, also did the Bohemian Grove business, but I think he's out of that game at this stage, being in his mid 80s.

Carter was a terrible President, but one thing for certain, at least in my opinion was that he was a genuine person, looking to solve problems.

Obama is the most polarizing president in modern history. It will be practically impossible for him to get something done, first because he has leaders within his own party's congressional delegation that are abhored by both the public and the republicans and he does not appear to want to get engaged.

He should call congress back in session and spend his time with his sleeves rolled up looking to solve our economic problems.

But, as I've written on another thread, this gent is an ideologue and would rather pass socialist policies that expand the state with a DOW at 5,000 than pass free market policies that limit government with a DOW at 15,000. Of that, there is no doubt.

At some point, when nothing you try is working and nothing he has tried is working, you step back and admit that you made the best decision you could at the time with the best data available and it simply did not work. That it is time to try something different. Its not that he won't do that, its that he can't do that. He is simply too proud to admit that his policies have utterly failed. He's a smart gent. He knows they've failed, but to alter course and pursue something so alien to him as free market, limited government solutions is so abhorant to him he will not do it.

Frustration will mount. Those who are on the dole, either personally or from a corporate perspective will be out in force for Obama. Millions of voters will be out opposing him and the country will be totally balkanized after the next election.

The only thing that will prevent that is a summary rejection of Obama by a significant majority and he's practically there now. The challenge of course is that there is over a year left of his term.

Meh you know how i feel about elections, the elites always elect there own presidents and leaders, just like in canada and in america with a nation of 300 Million people how can the media on election on election night call it a day and announce elected in matter of mins

lasts not forget what happened in 2000,Democracy is a faker of a system, it only Sevres the elites interests and as for your votes you can bet they throw away them into the trash.

I love when a man who bends over and grabs ankles for the corporate elites and bailed out the bankers while Americans lose their homes, are jobless, and are now facing dire straits is labeled a "socialist"

Please stop using that word, some people sound foolish in doing so.

Yet, continue to send your children to public schools, use roads that aren't privatized, and call upon the police and fire departments when you need assistance.

OK, how about Fascist? That work for you?

I think Obama is a man in conflict. He wants to be a Socialist (closet commie is more like it,) but the reality of life in the Oval Office has changed his strategy to Corporate Fascism.

And meanwhile, in the real world, Peggy Joseph has lost her job, her house, and if Obama doesn't pay to fill up her gas tank so she can move her car out from under the bridge where she's been living, she's gonna lose that too when the repo man finds her ignorant self.

How's that Hope and Change working out for you now Peggy?

Side note: I was in Detroit over the weekend, driving underneath I-75 at 8 Mile road. I saw the most elegant black lady, wearing what appeared to be a newish, churchy dress. She was sitting on an overturned pickle or paint bucket holding a sign: It said Please Help Me.

It just broke my heart to see this proud woman sitting just yards away from other, not so well-off, homeless people who were also begging for change from cars driving past. THAT is going to be Obama's legacy. I wish I had taken a picture to send him for his scrapbook.

Exactly Obama is handling America's affairs like a thief handles a stolen car, run it into the ground then when caught he blames someone else. Seems like all he does is either blame Bush or the Republicans for all of America's woes, the guy is a coward and takes no responsibility for his own mistakes just simply trys to smooth talk his way out of things while blaming Republicans for all of the problems with government. Honestly their is plenty of blame to go around but I don't want a guy in his position to simply point the finger at what he thinks is the problem.

Quit playing the blame game and just figure out a damn way to get this ship straight again without adding more government and more laws and more policy's and higher taxes for people. We pay enough taxes as it is "We the People" have made enough sacrafices for "All" the politicians mistakes over the years, its time they make some sacrifices first starting with 50% pay cut for all politicians and their advisors. No more 2 months paid vacation time, bump it down to 1 or 2 weeks like the rest of us working class citizens get. No more Business contributions into politcal campaign funds (we don't get perks so why should they). No more skipping out on votes, make it mandatory that every elected official needs to be present regardless of what bill is put on the table, their paid to do a job and its their duty to do so by representing the people they are supposed to represent. Its time they start taking the blunt for their irresponsibility at handling "Our" countries affairs.

Reform Disability and refuse anybody that claims "Bi-Polar" or any form of "Depression" as a disability, nobody is happy everyday of their life, this world sucks at times, thats part of life get used to it and get off your depressed ass and get a job and quit sponging off the system an maybe you'll be happier. Then start to reform "Welfare" should be the next step manditory drug testing for all recipients and make it only short term 1 year max no exceptions, time to get off of America's nipple. Then do away with Section 8 Housing all together, no more rent paid for parents to pump out kids like its a business. Start giving tax breaks for the elderly 65 and over. Thats just a few things to name some off the top of my head but its a good start I think. Oh yeah and ditch the whole "Obama Care" plan too since its more flawed then the previous system.

Ouch! You hurt my feelings.

If there is ever any actual change, and people once again have hope, then I'll stop using it. Until then...
