President shouldn't have said anything - his speech reeked of desperation.

(and yes, the markets will go back up with more manipulation - but nothing is going to change till they address the TRUE causes)

He finally speaks.
I'm guessing that the secret service found him in a closet, hiding.

Any guess who he's going to blame?

Himself?
Tea Party?
GOP lead House?
Indigo Children?
My dog (Lulla?)
Bush?
Taft?
The guy who delivers the bottled water?

Well, I see obama The Destroyer's speech impressed the worlds nations, as of now the stocks are at 10873. Way to go obama. After his speech, did he go back to the golf course or back to finish his birthday party? Cause his mind sure isn't on helping the country, but then again it never was.

US stock market closed down 634 !!!

Long live Obama the socialist. That speech really showed leadership.

He lead us straight down the drain!
Obama should resign tomorrow.

I really need to take a break from ATS, the more I read the more of an impression I'm getting of where we're heading and the more PO'd I get. 10809.85 a 634 point drop. If it were anyone else in the White House the press would be beating down the doors demanding to know what he was going to do to fix this mess. Instead we have obama. What answers do we get? Blame President Bush, blame republicans, blame earthquakes, blames cats, dogs anything and everything except his failed policys. Granted some of this mess is Bush's, some. But obamas far from blameless too, but he's not man enough to accept the fact that being President means he can't pass the buck, it stops with him, period.

Surely you're joking.

What's with all this "blame Obama" crap? The smarter of you know that this has been going on and orchestrated to this point for far longer than a term by one President. Blaming the last guy on the podium is silly and makes you look uninformed.

Reagan alone raised the debt ceiling 18 times during his presidency. And you want to throw stones at Obama? Really?

This is a President who hates America. He holds the nation hostage for an hour and then delivers a speech on how we need more communism?

This guy hates America and it shows with every oily word that drips from his tongue.

Did you cause this? no Mr pres your just the blame it on one, it happened on your watch so you get the short end of the stick.

I tell you what. The only think hard earned capital has been investing in over the last decade is swallowing mom and pop whole, and off-shoring jobs.

In the real world, global economy, where the American worker is hamstrung by red tape and 12 to 1 against trade barriers versus foreign products, the only thing that creates jobs is increased demand at street level.

That means "more demand for goods and services LOCALLY then current supply capacity can service," if you went to college.

I wholeheartedly agree! When companies like Walmart can have lobbyists in DC, something is wrong. Monopoly laws are not enforced any more.

You know, everyone whines about companies like Walmart but I think it's so much sour grapes. There is nothing stopping you from competing. You may have to reduce the quality of your merchandise, find a niche, find another location, cheaper rent, live in same house longer, drive same car longer, skip vacations and eat lots of Ramen noodles,

You can expand but may have to make your own fixtures and you may have to sell stuff like HBA (health and beauty aids) at cost to get customers in the door. Look at fire sales (you can use washing machine and dryer can't you?), overages, seconds and going out of business sales.

it may be a couple of generations before you can compete head to head with a Walmart but it can be done.

Look at 99 cent type stores, they sell stuff crappier than Walmart but still manage to feed a family.

And no I don't work retail and the closest was four years right out of college at the Dollar General corporate office when it was in Scottsville, Ky. I believe they had less than 300 stores then but now more than 9,000. I liked the newfangled computing machines at the time too much to get caught up in retail.

I dont see it. im thinking i will need some of your pixie dust to believe your post. You can combine dollar stores and hba and you still will not be competing with walmart.Im not saying thats its impossible.Just not gonna happen on a global level.
Who the heck needs another walmart?

Obama's speech today.
August 8, 2011.

"Okay well uhh hello America this uh here is your President speaking on behalf of uhh the people. As you all well uh know were going threw a real uh tough time... I just want you to uhh all to know I feel for you and uh I am here for you too. You see uh this is America, a place for hopes and uh dreams.. I have made a new plan that uh will open more jobs for the mmm people. I really hope uhh this benefits and helps out atleast uh a little bit, I can't make any promises mm uh at this point though.. uhh just keeping it real. I uhh also wanted to let America uhh know that I will be going on vacation for a few uhh months and I would love to thank you all for uhh this great experience and opportunity to serve uhhmm this country, yes uhh. I would also thank you for mm all the money you have lent to me while uhh I am in office. I uhh relly anjoy it because uhhh I get to enjoy all my pass times and uhmm hobbies. Thank you America and uhh good luck."

After reading this I was not appalled one bit, I have came to my conclusion that he is a genuine thinking tank at it's finest.

"This is the United States of America... No matter what a ratings agency says, we will always be a AAA country." - Obama (Cheerleader in Chief)

Reminds me of my high school pep rallies ....

Except those cheerleaders were much prettier and more exciting to watch.

Yeah! Go team America! Go USA!

Watching this live is disgusting. He makes no sense, just uses buzzwords. He is trying to recapture the charisma he had during his campaign, but the stuttering just makes it fall short.

Is that fluffy Plouffe guy still writing his material?

President Obama's hair is getting greyer(grayer?), but his speeches and demeanor are not increasing in wisdom. I thought he'd feel more comfortable battling it out and fighting for what he wanted by now. There's something not quite right with him, but I can't put my finger on it.

Anyone notice that when he was done talking through two sides of his face that the Stark Market got worse a hell of alot quicker. Tells you somethin don't it. No one in the world believes a word that comes out of his mouth.

Obama speaks bad things happen.
