This is the number I was most worried about... 4% I think the other Asian markets are going to play follow the leader now.

Hang Sen 40 20099.00 20946.14 20444.00 20099.00 -847.14 -4.04%

If it dips below 20,000.00 ut oh

Seems like traders had their algorithms set to buy when the Hang Seng and CSCI got close to 25k / 2.5k respectively which is caused a slight uptick before it crossed those thresholds. How long will that last?

The Nikkei has almost dropped to 9100 after the break and is down 2%.

Looks like the Nikkei is falling slowly since it opened. Hang Seng and Shanghai are still bad, but they were worse a bit earlier. Shanghai was nearly -5% but managed to climb back up to -3.66% Sensex just opened not too long ago and they're slowly losing a bit.

From marketwatch.com

Is Shanghai on lunch break? It seems it has been at -3.66% for a bit now?

I saw that to. It looks like they closed it for a little bit and opened it up again.

www.bloomberg.com...

South Korea’s benchmark stock index slumped the most in almost two years as speculation of overseas selling fueled investor concerns sparked by a U.S. debt downgrade. Korea Exchange Inc. halted program trading of stocks in the Kospi Index (KOSPI) and trading of Kosdaq Index shares.

Program trading on Kospi shares was stopped for five minutes from 1:23 p.m. local time after Kospi 200 Index (KOSPI2) futures fell more than 5 percent for more than a minute, Korea Exchange said. Trading of shares on the Kosdaq, which was 1,030 stocks, was temporarily halted after the index tumbled more than 10 percent for more than a minute, triggering automatic curbs.

More than 10% !!!! Wow! That must have really hurt!

Indeed it has been an interesting day, but no doom and gloom (so far) as many expected. The markets are very jittery but depending on how the US markets do today will either make things get better or worse. I went ahead and made one thread to monitor the entire situation. Please redirect your thoughts here. Thanks
