Am I banned from the chat box

It no longer loads for me, just shows the grey background.

Not sure why, maybe a problem on my side, but never had issues in the past?

Are you using firefox? I always had that issue. Try refreshing a few times (and waiting a little bit for it to load) or try another browser. That always worked for me.

Did you recently switch to Firefox? It has problems with chat. I've heard there's a fix for it but, I don't know where to find it.

ETA: I found the thread with the fix: www.abovetopsecret.com...

If you have poor upload/download speed it can stall like this and never load.



The easiest fix is to use Chrome:

Me either but as I seldom use it I really don't care. Yup, I'm using Firefox.

Ahh the grey screen of death like windows

I get this when trying to get into chat with FF but so far with Chrome I have no problems. Sometimes it takes a while to load though.

I had to switch to Opera for chat instead of Firefox.

Works a treat and I prefer it to Chrome.

I don't know how it works now, but in the Good Old Days, if you were actually banned from chat, you would get a message saying "You have been baned!"

Kind of an inside joke now.

This sounds more like a technical problem (I use Firefox myself)*, and aside from this admittedly tangential comment, I got nothing.

Edit to clarify: And I don't use chat, so I can't say either way and really shouldn't be butting in here, I suppose. I'm all Old School and prefer the asynchronous beauty of the forums.

Okay, works on Chrome. Not sure what the issue is, I've had Firefox for years. Maybe one of their recent updates ruined something (hense why I hate updating Firefox, but they always manage to update me covertly)

Great to hear you can get in, sorry it seems the problem is with Firefox.

Offhand, I suspect the issue is related to Firefox's increased focus on security, and that something about chat is prevented from happening.

Again, I confess significant ignorance about how chat actually works, but it may be possible to configure Firefox to allow Javascript (perhaps?) or something like that for the chat's URL/domain.

If you're using an extension like NoScript (which I use), you may need to tell it to allow chat to do its thing.

Sorry to be so vague and unhelpful, just thinking out loud here.

Hiya Majic, out of interest...if you go to ufoevidence.org, do you get a blank screen? The homepage works and this example doesn't. I run ABP, Noscript and use FF.

I'm suspecting ABP could be the issue.

No, when you're banned from chat you get a white background with the words "You are banned from chat".

Just to add, I always use Chrome - no issues...

Yeah, it's ABP. If you disable it for that site the Project Bluebook page appears.

As for the chat ban message, I still think "You have been baned!" is much more epic.

What I do is click, wait til it says done, close it, then open it again and leave it for a while. It generally works for me after that
