Well, that's just brilliant priest. Jesus spoke more about hell than heaven and the church wasn't born until Pentacost some 50+ days after Christ resurrected and ascended to heaven.

thats only half true... the church is infamous for using hell (amongst numerous other control mechanisms) as a fear tactic... but no they did not "invent" it... like so many holidays, practices, holy lands, and books of the bible (think old testament)... they "borrowed" the concept

controlling populations by fear only works when ignorance is prevelant thats why before knowing how to read was a "big deal" churches insisted that only the heads of ceremony be able to read and interept the word... to keep populations ignorant of the source material... governments use fear in the same way today just with different mediums

Why would Christians fear hell?

You got people given money to churches trying to make sure the recently deceased loved ones aren't going to hell.

You got people driven to go to church, pay money, and confess sins often to avoid hell.

Potential christians could be duped into becoming believers worrying about if they(the hell believers) are right.

Fearing hell for others drives christians to get try to convert other people to be under the churches grip.

Christians who question their beliefs might shut the thoughts out for fear of damning themselves.

Back when the church was more politically involved, the threat of hell was an enforcer of laws.

Basically, the story of hell hurts christians and empowers the church.

Care to point out a scripture, of all those references jesus made of 'hell', of one where he explains that he's talking about eternal firey torture? No, talk about Gehenna or metaphors about fire, one where he's actually talking about hell, and says it's what the churches say it is.

Why just one? In Biblical Hermaneutics you cannot base a major doctrine unless there are at minimum 3 separate verses.

Unquenchable Fire

Matt. 3:12 "And His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

Fiery Hell

Matt. 5:22, "whoever shall say, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell." See also, Matt. 5:29,30.

Fiery Hell

Matt. 18:8-9, "And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the eternal fire. 9 "And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out, and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than having two eyes, to be cast into the fiery hell."

Eternal Fire

Matt. 25:41, "Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels.

Eternal Punishment

Matt. 25:46, "And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

The word "eternal" in both places is "aionios" which means 1) without beginning and end, that which always has been and always will be; 2) without beginning; 3) without end, never to cease, everlasting. The word "punishment" is the word "kolasis" and it means "to punish, with the implication of resulting severe suffering - 'to punish, punishment.'"

Eternal Fire

Jude 7, "Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example, in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire."

Thrown into the lake of Fire

"And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever."

Lake of Fire

Rev. 20:15, "And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."

thank you for your contribution
jesus is very special and this thread is not about what he is reported to have said in the very bible which has been used as a tool for manipulation by the very church in question here
incidentally this religious manipulation would have to have been organized after jesus as he is the one with whom the church has predetermined its authenticity and they have obscured the understanding of our relationship

anyone, christians included, fear because we do not understand our true sovereign integrated divine relationship within the creator
whether its identified as jesus god brahma, words lack the potency to fulfill the need to feel the divine

man is not infallible and thus did not translate the infallible word of god infallibly, belief that there was not misinterpretation is fallible considering the regime in power during the inception of the bible

LET NOT RELIGION DETERMINE THE NEEDS OF THE SOUL
~SPIRIT INFUSES OUR SOUL, AND OUR SOUL FUSES SPIRIT~

Keep in mind there will always be those working for satan who will try to discredit God. It may sound like Dogma, but people do lie and people trying to control will lie more and harder to maintain power.

This person may be recognized as a priest but he's a wolf. He is not a Christian because his teachings go against the Holy scriptures.

And the Holy scriptures go against Christ's love. Your point?
