Keep in mind though, todays "communism" is not even remotely close to the pure idealism of communism of yesteryear.

They are pushing more of a socialist agenda than a communist agenda. In communism, there is no capitalism...it is almost like a caste system.
Socialism is for equaling the playing field to an extent and providing all with a certain degree of civil life..eliminate the poor, etc..however, capitalism is also in a socialist state...basically, you get up to a certain degree of lifestyle from the gub, anything beyond that is when you have to get to work..so you may be given a honda civic, but if you want a ferrari, you need to make money..

This is the most common form of socio-capitalistic style structures alive and thriving today (see northern europe)

There's a communist party in France, and they don't bother to hide. But they are rather small and inconsequential. My neighbor is communist, and my kids had a teacher in elementary school who was. Both of them long haired people who wear dingy clothes and sandals even in winter. They both were rather irritating to be around, complaining about injustice everywhere and anywhere, spending more time complaining than actually working.

They get treated about the same as the far right movements, like the Front Nationale- considered extremists lacking a bit in the brains department. For the french, extreme isn't synonomous with dangerous- just stupid. It is communely held that only those of intelligence are able to perceive subtilities in the world and hold moderate perspectives.

If they cannot see the value in the idea of a society with a capitalist economy, and democratic socialist government, and see only one extreme or the other (black and white) then they are waved off as unintelligent and anything they have to say is not valuable. (just a heads up for those of you who have a tendancy to confuse socialism and communism, in case you ever have to deal with a french person and wonder why they might ignore you during a conversation).

Socialism is based on collectivism which automatically destroys any possibility of individual freedom. I suppose it is a matter of one's personal values, but socialism is quite disgusting from the viewpoint of one who would strive for freedom, self reliance, and personal privacy

what country do you live in, CHINA? america is one of the most capitalistic countries on earth, always have been.
and if you do not know it already, this country was set up with a representative government. we do not have kings or dictators. one of the main reasons our country was set up this way was to stop the wealthy and privledged from controlling all the assets of the people. this was the way it was in europe at the time of americas birth.
america could never become a "socialist" country...even progressive liberals would pick up their weapons and fight against socialism as it is defined in the dictionary.

Patternfinder, you are correct exactly. The Communist Party is definitely alive in the USA and worldwide. Communism never died, it just took on some different masks to hide itself from the populace. It had to go underground a bit, as some people were onto it. The Communists have almost completely taken over the Democrat Party, and are now working to undermine the conservative values of the Republican Party. Obama has been described by a known Fabian to be a Fabian Socialist. Fabian Socialism is Socialism in increments, and Socialism in general is communism in increments. The ultimate goal is World Communismn and World domination. It may not come exactly as Soviet style communism, as people are on the alert for it. Fascism is Totalitarianism. This is the world that George Orwell saw when he wrote the book "Nineteen Eighty-Four", a world where Big Brother controls the movements of everyone, and there is no privacy and no freedom. This will be a world where we are tracked and surveiled by webcams, nannycams, rfid, cell phone tower, parking lot security towers, credit card records, health records, traffic records, credit reporting, your neighbor, your kids, the snitch at the local post office, etc ad nauseum.
Part of the Stimulus was to upgrade computer network systems to allow for databases hosting health records, and the system by which it can all be policed, with auditors getting a cut for turning in database breaches. This could be part of the TIA super database Admiral Poindexter wanted, to connect all traffic, health, and other databases into one giant database over which certain people would have authority. There will be huge loss of privacy of any kind. Just think, if Anonymous can hack into Bank of America, Choicepoint, or any other database, what is to stop someone from hacking the supercomputer which hosts all of this data? For this reason Congress actually opposed it. It was a program of DARPA and had the logo of the eye in the capstone looking over the world. Very creepy. Very Illuminati.
