Evil fiction: teacher a target of fake Facebook profile

www.smh.com.au< br />

Police are hunting the creator of a fake Facebook profile that was used to impersonate a Sydney primary school teacher and frame him as a paedophile by targeting kids at his school.

The teacher, who cannot be named, is a long-time campaigner against racism online and with others he runs a blog that names and shames racists by publishing their hate-filled Facebook postings.

In a phone interview, he said he believed this is why he was targeted.

Explanation: This is the bit of the story that stood out for me!

"Facebook is hosted in the United States, which makes it difficult for Australian law enforcement agencies to police," the AFP spokesman said.

Please refer to linked article for the full story.

I am fully aware this story covers a ton of bases, all they way from the basics, such as facebooks use as a weapon, to, White supremacy in Australia, and also, global legal issues to do with the internet in general, plus, many more!

I encourage my fellow members to pick any one of these issues they like and run down and pwn that base as best they can.

Personal Disclosure: Let the discussions and debates begin!

P.S. I haven't added any additional links yet as this is breaking news and I havent had the time to and I apologize profusely for that but time is of the essence nowadays and so I defer to that. Also I haven't linked any related threads as this is such a broad and deep story that I'd just link the ATS home page and let you take your pick but as you are reading this you're already here!

Accusing someone of being involved in any type of kiddy porn is today's equivalent of calling someone a witch, back in the middle ages.

Guilty, not guilty, innocent, it doesn't matter. Burned at the stake, no matter what.

Teachers are especially soft targets, where they are almost guilty until they prove themselves innocent. Kiss that career choice goodbye.

Oh boy, I don't know what to make of this story. What happened to that teacher is unfortunate, with todays society, anything can be used against you, and like the fellow poster above said, guilty until proven innocent is the mindset.

The scary part is, it could have been a student who made that profile out of spite, maybe got an F? or perhaps it was because the teacher did something that made the student get pissed off. I mean let's be honest, at one point in our lives we had a teacher that was brutal in attitude, and those of us who are older remember the days when the teacher could wack you with a ruler for not paying attention during class. Some negative thoughts towards the teacher is likely to emerge under those circumstances. I don't know how aussies schools are, it is possible the Ruler wack is still used by teachers there.

That is my theory tho.

You bring up a very good point and maybe the teacher due to his own biases is laying the blame in the wrong spot and creating an unessisary beat up and twisting this for his own ends?

As for the cane ... as far as I know when I was in school it was widely used [OL is 38yrs old] but since then it has fallen out of favour and the public [ie gov funded and operated] schools no longer use it, BUT private schools [that may or may not recieve gov funding] can and still do use the cane on a case by case basis and the parents paying for their childrens education get to choose which schools and which rules their kids get to suffer!

They are assuming it was because of his campaign against racism. They are only theories as to why the profile is created, it is not a fact. The only fact here is that the profile was obviously made out of spite. But who would go out of his way for racism? Why the teacher? Why not others? because there are thousands more campaigning for the same cause with much higher positions like politics etc. It doesn't make sense to target a teacher when you can go for the big boys in office.

That is why I rule that out, my best guess it was a student, because it is more likely to happen.

You are going to start seeing more and more of this type of thing. I am surprise it has not become more of a problem that it has. Fake web profiles will become the weapon of choice from any one who gets mad at someone. You can build one in a few minutes .

1600's - "He's a witch! "
1950's - "He's a Commie!"
2012 - "He's a pedo!"

This is the new battlecry to demolish one's enemies. And I agree, it's probably a student who got a bad grade or felt the teacher didn't stroke his self esteem or some such foolishness. This sort of thing makes me ill. And yeah, because of this, his career is probably kaput. Pity.

You're absolutely right on all counts.

Poor man, devotes his life to teaching youngsters and fighting racism, this is his reward.
