Finally, some good news

at first on CNN own website they had changed the title from Finally, some good news to July jobs report: Hiring picks up

sweet !! more temp. jobs !! i have worked at 12 different places in the last year.. all temp. jobs. I've had to make emergency appointments for day care so many times it's become a part of everyday life lately... all for 8$/hr... this country is becoming a joke.

GeneralTarfu, 2 hours ago finally some good news

Some people have lost the sense of reality.

U.S. stocks opened higher following the report, with the Dow Jones industrial average adding nearly 100 points in the opening minutes before eventually changing course.

Of course its always about the markets, and CNN feels like they are in control of it

on cnn website is overacting with the jobs report with such titles as Surprise! 117,000 jobs added, folks turn of Your CNN.

Yeah, it's sad that they announce how many jobs were created without telling you how many jobs were lost. I mean If I take $50.00 to the casino and blow it all on slots but won $25.00 back I would still be out $25.00, but the casino will publicly only focus on the fact that you won $25.00.

Found THIS interesting

According to a Bureau of Labor Statistics breakdown, there were 139,296,000 people working in July, compared to 139,334,000 the month before, or a drop of 38,000.

So we "gained" 117,000 jobs but at the same time we lost 155,000 jobs.

I wonder if they are counting the 70,000 furloughed FAA workers in the increase? If you take them out of the equation then we really added ~30k jobs which is a drop in the bucket (not that ~100k jobs is anything to write a book about either).

It's all as shell game to make sure they can save us (U.S.) with QE3. If they keep "helping" us like this we are (more) screwed.

Shell game defines it perfectly.

Look at "Defense" spending - the Pentagon got a record $750 Billion this coming year but add to that the off-budget "wars" and CIA funding, etc. and it adds up to around double that.

Strange data,I have read several reports that unemployment was up by 66% on the previous month with large company layoff's? These reports have been posted here on ATS as well.

The actual number of unemployed can be found by subtracting 'Employed' from 'Civilian Non-Institutional Population'.

So here's the problem.

(Below data from: www.bls.gov...)
The number of people actually Employed is dropping...
2007 - 146,047,000
...
May'11 - 139,779,000
June'11 - 139,334,000
July'11 - 139,296,000

...while the population not institutionalized and available for work is growing.
2007 - 231,867,000
...
May'11 - 239,313,000
June'11 - 239,489,000
July'11 - 239,671,000

So the unemployment number they advertise doesn't matter.

Numbers below in Thousands.

Does this look like a recovery to you?

The graph would look interesting if overlayed with the dates of the 'shovel-ready' stimulus programs.

They were going to furlough only 4,000 of the 47,500 FAA employees. The 70,000 number was fudged by some lying politician and broadcast to the news to generate a reaction from the public.

Yeah and I love how they revise the numbers up for the last two months when prior to that 18/19 had been revised downwards.

Did you look at the number of people that were added to government assistance? its up some 300k since last month.

Like the earlier poster said the UE% doesn't matter when the small print mentions how another 2% left the workforce.

Not as good as it sounds. More likely just to get a bunch of suckers back in the market before the big plunge in 2013 after Obama gets reelected and the race wars break out so they can make a big power grab.
