The Pentagon's approved term for these weapons is "non-lethal" or "less-lethal" and they are intended for use against the unarmed. Designed to control crowds, clear streets, subdue and restrain individuals and secure borders, they are the 21st century's version of the police baton, pepper spray and tear gas. As journalist Ando Arike puts it, "The result is what appears to be the first arms race in which the opponent is the general population."

The demand for non-lethal weapons (NLW) is rooted in the rise of television. In the 1960s and '70s the medium let everyday Americans witness the violent tactics used to suppress the civil rights and anti-war movements.

Thought this was some wild stuff and that you guys should see. Please make sure to read the full post. It amazes me what all they come up with ---and for some reason it bothers me.

I'm not a violent person or have fear of this being used on me per se, I just don't think using these type weapons on its own citizens is right somehow... Do you? What do you think of these weapons?

Why do they need any of this stuff when the water cannon works beautifully? Because there are no corporations tossing spiff around to politicans who buy the water cannons, thats why.

Recipe: Totalitarian control over peaceful dissent

First you need a peaceful protest.

Add one government insurgent. Mix insurgent with crowd. Once the insurgent reacts with the protest and police, you will have a threat.

Now add any of these new "non lethal weapons" to be sure none of these peaceful protestors will ever voice themselves again. Be sure to destroy or confiscate all independent forms of media accumulated during this step.

After subduing the "threat" add a few mainstream media outlets, along with media hysteria.

Bake for 5-10 days at constant, heavily edited playback.

You may want to add a topping of oppressive legislation before serving.

I like your recipe. But there are those out there who feel that violence is the only way to get their message across and they will latch onto a peaceful protest like a paarasite to cause further dissent.

All you have to do is look at any of the "G" conferances to see it. Once the violence starts, it is hard to stop.

Your forgot to add allow small group of agents provocateur dressed in black (often police) to smash windows and set cop car on fire. Make sure media gets good pictures. Remove black clothing run back inside police lines.

These weapons are horrible. they love them because they don't leave marks so they can be as sadistic as they please without repercussion.

I prefer bean bag rounds because they leave a lasting impression on the intended target without the risks, hassles and clean up associated with chemicals and electric devices. Cheaper too!!

You realize that any pea shooter you have will just get you killed, right?

These people, our government, own flying robots that hail down doom and distraction. Not to mention the various OTHER weaponized robots that can auto-patrol anywhere (as in auto designate targets, evaluate threats, terrain, and vehicular interaction ect.)

its kind of interesting how the futuristic weapons tend to focus on attacking our senses instead of blowing a whole in us. I just wish this awesome technology would be used in other ways besides weapons

Yeah. I saw the Taser X12 shotgun a while back on their website. Damn. I'd hate to be shot with that thing. (or any taser for that matter.)

Tasers will soon be a thing of the past as they are often misused and can kill when misused.

When the SHTF, if you're a cop, you better hope you aren't the operator of one of these machines. Their operators will be like MG operators in wwII, average life of less than a minute. They'll be the first to go and the most vulnerable because these are primarily operated out in the open.

Not to mention a 100 foot accuracy distance. Not exactly an ideal first line of defense.
