Great thread! S&F. I have read about this before. It is amazing how little people realize the fragility of a free republic.

In truth, I believe they were succcessful. It is no coincidence that two Bushs managed to be president. The outlier, a man they thought would play ball because of the history of the family, was JFK. When they realized he wasn't going to be a part of their team, he was liquidated.

They have slowly and secretly turned our free republic into a plutocracy. It seems now things are speeding up and they have done enough to feel they no longer need to hide in the shadows.

The Council of Thirteen or "Super Congress", may very well mutate into the first completely overt change of how our republic operates.

It is very scary.

I think I read about this attempted coup in History books when I was a kid. (Yeah, right!)

Seriously though, isn't it amazing that such a significant chapter in our American history is unknown by probably 99% of citizens?

"It can never happen here!"

Wanna bet?

Great post and very scary. After reading about this "Business plot" years back, I couldnt believe how close the US came to fascism if not for one of the bravest Americans in US history -USMC MG Smedley Butler. The only man to recieve 2 Congressional Medals of Honor. His activity in the Span-Am war, the Philippines insurrection, and several other military activities of the late 19th /early 20th century are not well known. The likely reason is that he himself became a peace advocate and denounced the burgeoning US interventionist foriegn policies. For example, his essay "War is a Racket":

www.lexrex.com...

If you mentioned this, I missed it, but Prescott Bush was caught trading with the Nazis in 1943 - 2 years after his nation declared war on Germany! I believe he received a light slap on the wrist for his treasonous activity.

Anyhow, Smedley Darlington Butler is name we need to remember as a great American.

I have to wonder. Would we be in a better place today if they won?

They pretty much did win. Not that particular incident, but I think DuPont and some of the others from 1936 would be jim dandy with the current situation. Now it's just a metter of getting rid of pesky things like Constitutional rights and procedures -largely already gone in practice but technically still around to cause them headaches.

I'm not so sure. I'm going to admit I haven't read into this enough to know the better, but national socialism applied to constitutional patronage equates to a political environment like that of the early 1800s. This being the era when politicians, rather than make laws against super-banks, simply shot their founders. I prefer this method.

Great Thread RA.

In many ways I believe that the plot never actually ended once it was exposed. It is my belief that the plot has been continued and applied incrementally and as moments of opportunity presented itself. Much like making a 50 year plan. No matter how circumstances change, you continue to work toward your main objectives.

Considering the plan was to install a fascist dictatorship similar to Nazi Germany... I doubt it.

Awesome thread! Well written, easy to read, and very interesting. Quality threads like this seem to be getting scarce around here lately.

Well I mean that's my point. Nazis minus racism and genocide = a pretty functional government. I mean they did manage to make a war-torn back ally nation into the most powerful nation on Earth that took the combined efforts of millions or Russians, Englishmen, and Americans to bring down. Whose technology we still use is most modern military hardware.

What I'm saying is, would it be bad if it was applied to the rules of the constitution?

You are asking the wrong question. Ask this question instead; Could it have been any worse than it is now? Ummmmmm, No.

The number of right wing NUTS on this forum that would welcome a Nazis/Facist government
alarms and infuriates me at the same time.
Every male in my family fought against these bastards in WW2.
America i just don't know what to say.
Disgust doesn't begin to describe the way i feel.
Yes FDR had some socialist ideas.
But had it not been for him we would all be saying SIEG HEIL.
Apparently you right wingers would not be opposed.

As FDR's "new Deal was fascist in nature in the first place (en.wikipedia.org...), why would it be necessary to cook up such a plot in the first place?

Well the Nazis yes. National Socialism, I'm still not sure. As I said, it's the only form of government I can think of that managed to make an impoverished bankrupt nation into the premier military, cultural, and economic power on Earth in 10 years, and it took the combined might of most of the world's nations to bring it down, and that still took close to 6 years to do so.

What I have to wonder is if such a government, when applied to the civil rights and liberties of the Constitution, is good for America. I don't know. I don't see any reason how it could not be good.

I mean we've fought plenty of capitalist nations, monarchs, etc etc. The fact that your enemy uses that governing style does not make that government style bad.

Isnt it amazing this story has basically been suppressed from the masses for so long? !

Bill Cooper wrote many things about the "shadow govt" that is really running the show. And looking at those recent survey results, most of us on ATS dont believe or trust the government.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I would be willing to bet the United States never truly lived up to its own principles, and since its inception have had greedy and powerful men making moves behind the scenes while the common man is proudly proclaiming "freedom"

Serfdom and Feudalism never ended, they just made us think it did.

I reject the notion of suppression when anyone can crack open a college text book or wikipedia and read it right there.

It's clearly perfectly open for you to read your heart out.

I will say this then i will be done.
A whole generation apparently died and sacrificed for nothing then.
And our greatest generation at that.
Maybe your families did not pay the price like mine did.
It's like saying lets all become Taliban no difference to me.
Either way this sickens me to the core.
I am DONE!

Both my grandfathers fought and survived WW2. I do hate the nazis. But that doesn't mean I hate their inventions, their government, their non-racist ideas, or their architecture.

Hating everything about your enemy is comparable to the highest form of ignorance. After all, a good number of architecture in Europe came about because of Muslim knowledge that we saw and documented. Does that make us as evil as the Muslims in that day? Well I mean we both were equally evil, but you see this point?

If, in war, you do not learn from your enemy's qualities, then you really are simply being ignorant. The jet engine, the space program, the abrams, night vision, and many more. Assets that today save brave patriots of the American way. Assets today that support freedom. They all came from the deep dark bowels of the Nazi war machine. Fact is we wouldn't be able to defend freedom today had we not taken what good things the Nazis did.

Even the most evil man that has ever walked the Earth can create cool, good designs. And brave patriots of freedom didn't die for us to not advance by their sins, to be used to prevent more sins.

Don't be so ignorant.
