Im just not really sure where to start here. Perhaps I should just go to the BTS and put this in the rant forum, but as it is "In the News", here we are.

First, the story:

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WUSA) -- Eleven-year-old aspiring veterinarian, Skylar Capo, sprang into action the second she learned that a baby woodpecker in her Dad's backyard was about to be eaten by the family cat. "I've just always loved animals," said Skylar Capo. "I couldn't stand to watch it be eaten." Skylar couldn't find the woodpecker's mother, so she brought it to her own mother, Alison Capo, who agreed to take it home. "She was just going to take care of it for a day or two, make sure it was safe and uninjured, and then she was going to let it go," said Capo.
But on the drive home, the Capo family stopped at a Lowes in Fredericksburg and they brought the bird inside because of the heat. That's when they were confronted by a fellow shopper who said she worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Now Im sure all you smartly ATS'ers can tell where this takes a turn for the worse. Can you even begin to guess what road this story is going to go down?

Let's think Lemonade Stands, Girl Scout Cookies... woman trying to grow her own garden, just for starters...We have all ready read those horror stories.

Now I don't really want to put the whole story here because that is just not the ATS way, but here is one more snippet:

But roughly two weeks later, that same woman from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service showed up at Capo's front door. This time, Capo says the woman was accompanied by a state trooper. Capo refused to accept a citation, but was later mailed a notice to appear in U.S. District Court for unlawfully taking a migratory bird. She's also been slapped with a $535 fine.

And yes The link to the FULL STORY

Are we really this out of control now? I grrrr I just can't stand this. I take care of the wildlife in my yard. Granted it is just a simple feeding of the birds squirrels etc., and I have saved some lives as well from my own cats. Im sure many of us have been there. It just brings me so much joy and Im over 50. A little girls dreams of trying to do the right thing just crushed like this? What lesson does this teach?

Im sorry I am little bit unformed in thought here, but this just really crawls up my..... I mean yes Im sad about hungry people and the homeless and so many things in the world, but really, is this really necessary and how does this women sleep with herself at night?

Ok, Im done now, not really, but for this thread of thought as my mind is just all over the place. I think I have really had enough of TPTB

Yes, and it took her about 2 weeks to find a like minded LEO to accompany her!
Our country is no longer on the slippery slope, but cascading down the crevasse.
Sadly free fall is next

Once again in this episode of the Twilight Zone we're living in, incompetence and ignorance are rewarded and kindness, compassion and diligence are punished. As things are, I think we're only a hair's breadth from full on anarchy because everything is so upside down. Those of us with any morality and/or sense of responsibility continue to see this kind of thing going on start to think, "man, am I a sucker... guess if you can't beat them, join them."

Sorry, guess mine turned into a bit of a rant too but your story just epitomizes the backward/upside down and out of control feeling everything has lately.

Good deed or no, she should respect the fact that there are laws in place to protect wildlife. Laugh it off, pay the fine, and move on to more important things in life imo.

No good deed goes unpunished.

What a criminal that kid is.

She protected wildlife and got "in trouble" for it. If she had obeyed the law the bird could have died. So how could the law protect the wildlife in this case? I doubt that she finds it funny enough to laugh at.

Maybe It's just me.. But... since they did apologize, take away the fine and even explain saying it was a clerical error..... But I just am having trouble getting upset.

Unfortunately, the citation was processed unintentionally despite our office's request to cancel the ticket. The Service has contacted Ms. Capo to express our regret. The Service is also sending Ms. Capo a formal letter explain the clerical error and confirming that ticket should never have been issued.
Yeah...a "clerical error".
She was lucky the media gave her a whole sob story or she'd probably be paying that fine.

Maybe, maybe not. That is speculation at best....

and sure, people make mistakes all the time. Why not a clerical error?

The problem with this post, this news story and all the examples you cited are that they are mainstream news that you can find on any service. This is a conspiracy website and this has NOTHING to do with ANY conspiracy! ATS has been hijacked by star and flag seeking boredom.

You might be shocked to learn how much power the fish and wildlife authorities have.

If they even 'suspect' you of harboring a wild animal in your home, they have the authority to forcefully enter your home without a warrant.

About 10 years ago my parents befriended a wild turkey. A neighbor boy taunted the turkey regularly, until mating season, when the bird chased the boy instead! The boy ran brainlessly into the street. No, he wasn't hit by a car or anything, but his mother saw it and called the game warden.

That afternoon, the game warden showed up with a rifle and lethal dart. My mom stood between the gamewarden and the turkey, but the warden kept my mom's eyes occupied. As soon as the bird moved sideways enough for him to take a shot, he raised his rifle and fired right next to my mom.

After the bird was dead, the game warden threatened to arrest her for obstruction.
Sad, but true.
