Some people are so backwards that they actually think that the left invented compassion, conscience, empathy, helping your fellow humans, etc...

Has the IQ of so many people lowered so much that they can't understand that these qualities are not part of the left, but are part of each individual no matter their political afiliation?...

You will find good, and bad people in ALL political parties, including the left leaning parties.

It is also a direct relationship to the policies and issues one values.

The republicans don’t value issues that feed human beings and deal with their well being, the democrats, at least in theory do, because they initiate and support issues that help human beings.

BTW there is a survey taken in I think Australia that proves that suicide goes up when there is a conservative government in power.
It also is a fact that murder and suicide rates go up when the conservatives of the GOP are in office.

Sorry, as I don't pass judgement as to how or why someone is a "fat cat CEO". I don't care. They are they, and that is that.

Exactly why taxing the rich is not in anyway punitive.

It has nothing to do with how they got the money. Luck, hard work, evil actions.

The state of having such a large percentage of the overall currency is what needs to be taxed.

It is a logistical part of keeping capitalism competitive.

A plutocracy destroys capitalism.

Instead of trying to determine if their ascendency is legit or not, why not work hard, take care of yourselves and worry about others less.

Good advice to a certain extent.

However, it gets to a point where another person's actions infringe on your freedom and rights.

Sorry, but consider this your last reply, as you keep pitching the same tired old crap.

It's just so messed up that expressing that compassion out loud in a group will have the effect of people thinking you are liberal or democratic.

You're quite welcome, my friend. After giving our conversation some thought, I now see where you are coming from... We both can agree our system (public and private) needs to be re-evaluated and brought up to date. We can also agree that we as a society have been overrun by those would manipulate the system in order to profit. The rules to the game are very old and there are many issues that need to be addressed. In order to move forward we will have to change our perspective from "I want the most from my country/econamy now", to "I want my children to live in a free country that has a good econamy". In other words, there are no short cuts to anything worthwhile.

We both want the same things for the future, we just disagree on who should lead us there.

I do apologize if I seemed hostile at some points, I tend to get caught up in what's being debated. Thank you again for your thoughts.

This is inspiring... two sides, with totally different views, being respectful of each other's opinions. I wish we saw a lot more of this in the mainstream and in Washington. I think it would inspire the whole world to the greatness that can be achieved when civility and decorum are combined with a mutual goal of a better world for all. Great posts!

"same tired old crap" is saying that taxes are punishment for working hard.

It shows an ignorance to the fundamental concepts of capitalism.

Competition can't exist in a plutocracy...

I think our number one priority should be freedom

If we have freedom people will naturally make a better world.

In a polluted world we are dependent on corporations.

In a plutocracy we can't use "the government" to defend ourselves from corporations.

While I tend to agree myself, that depicting the Republican Party as the literal vanguard of Hell might be fun, it's not only an oversimplification, but it also isn't particularly productive.

Conservatives tend to have reasons for believing what they do. A lot of those reasons often have to do with the Zero Sum Game. As far as Islam and racial paranoia is concerned, that has to do with the usual fascist belief, as voiced by Mussolini, that a state actually needs a constant supply of external threats in order to survive, because it supposedly acts as a stimulus for both society and the economy.

I used to be a lot more of a socialist than I am, but recently I've started questioning some of my own previously held assumptions. I'm still not a racist; but the one thing I've grown very tired of from the Left, is the cult of the victim. Virtually all of the government interventionism which socialists tend to want, stems from a central rationale of wanting to "help the victims." Just as there are a lot of things about fascist thinking that I don't like, so there are things about the Left that are a problem; and the main one is the obsession with victimhood.

The problem with always seeing people as victims, is that when you look at a person that way, you actually rob them of their individual sovereignty, their personal responsibility for being in the situation they're in, and ultimately because of that, their means of getting out of said situation via their own power. The assumption that someone is a victim, generally presupposes that a person doesn't have the ability to help themselves at all.

So I'm still as much an advocate of compassion as I ever was; but I think at times that some on the Right are also correct, when they assert that progressives' victim oriented thinking was actually devised by government themselves, so that they can use it for manipulating progressives into gradually giving up more and more of their freedoms.

After much research I have found that the rich people (conservatives mostly) did not get rich by hard work and smart thinking. They just got lucky. So, the republicans who have spewed all the rhetoric about working hard for what they have and not wanting to share, are full of it.

You're wrong. On so many levels.

I'm a conservative. I grew up dirt poor eating cabbage soup 4 nights a week. I went to school, got my degrees, busted my arse and had a 6 figure salary. I served my country for 13 years. I spent a good portion of that working 18 hour days 7 days a week for months on end.

I left that job because my Jenday conure was so ill she required 8 hand feedings a day, and I value life over money. I own a half million dollar home on 37 acres. I earned it. I paid for it by putting my brain in a book for 8 years. No friday nights out, no social life. Now? I teach. Because I like teaching.

I'm not greedy, what I have I paid for in blood sweat and tears. And you know what? I have many friends who did the same.

So you're wrong.

Really?

What about Michael Moore? I think he's one of the biggest ass-hats in Hollyweird, but he's a poster child for the American Dream. He worked hard to get where he's at.

I wonder what he thinks about Obama's "Spread the wealth"?
