We may have lost this fight, but when the details come out on this disgusting bill, more than just the Tea Party will be upset. I would expect a conservative surge next year that'll make 2010 look like a picnic.

Conservative surge...yes, because there are still paved roads...dammit, government still exists!

Aren't you a brit?

Who paves the roads, the government?

No, they take money out of your pocket, and then mismanage it. Under the front of looking legitimate, they will throw a dollar or two at the roads and pay people to pave them.

There also needs to be higher taxes on the millionairs who really don't work any harder than the Janitor making $7 hour. You cant even feed a family on minimum wage.

I wish liberals would LOOK at what they are saying.

"....higher taxes on the millionairs...."

And how do you proposed to TAX the extremely wealthy???

YOU can't because the game was rigged from the start. THEIR money is nice and safe tucked away in Trusts and Foundations and off shore accounts.

THE ELITE DO NOT EARN WAGES therefore you can not tax them!!!!

Look at G.E.

G.E.’s Strategies Let It Avoid Taxes Altogether

General Electric, the nation’s largest corporation, had a very good year in 2010.

The company reported worldwide profits of $14.2 billion, and said $5.1 billion of the total came from its operations in the United States.

Its American tax bill? None. In fact, G.E. claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion....

Its extraordinary success is based on an aggressive strategy that mixes fierce lobbying for tax breaks and innovative accounting that enables it to concentrate its profits offshore. G.E.’s giant tax department, led by a bow-tied former Treasury official named John Samuels, is often referred to as the world’s best tax law firm. Indeed, the company’s slogan “Imagination at Work” fits this department well. The team includes former officials not just from the Treasury, but also from the I.R.S. and virtually all the tax-writing committees in Congress....

As long as we have "Free Trade Agreements" Multi-national Corporations can easily use "creative accounting" to move profits to other countries with lower taxes. I worked for a company that never paid a DIME in Federal or state tax because the factory never made a "Paper profit" All profit was transfered to another country by over charging for the Raw materials imported to the USA.

Only getting rid of "free Trade" and reintroducing tax on imports can we stop the hemoraging of jobs and actually tax international corporations.

If you increase "Corporate tax" you will only tax small American based firms. The big multinationals will never ever pay a dime more.

Take a look at how much of US industry is foreign owned!

..foreign controlled domestic U.S. Corporations (FDC) 50% or more owned by a foreign entity."[1]

By that definition, the percentage of foreign ownership as of 2002 by industrial sector was as follows:[2]

* Sound recording industries - 97%
* Commodity contracts dealing and brokerage - 79%
* Motion picture and sound recording industries - 75%
* Metal ore mining - 65%
* Motion picture and video industries - 64%
* Wineries and distilleries - 64%
* Database, directory, and other publishers - 63%
* Book publishers - 63%
* Cement, concrete, lime, and gypsum product - 62%
* Engine, turbine and power transmission equipment - 57%
* Rubber product - 53%
* Nonmetallic mineral product manufacturing - 53%
* Plastics and rubber products manufacturing - 52%
* Plastics product - 51%
* Other insurance related activities - 51%
* Boiler, tank, and shipping container - 50%
* Glass and glass product - 48%
* Coal mining - 48%
[the chart goes on and on] www.sourcewatch.org...

The World Trade Organization was ratified in 1995. Negative numbers mean too many imports not enough exports and export of US manufacturing jobs.

The mix of personal income tax, Pay roll tax (SS, medicare, medicaid) and corporate tax.

this country is already destroyed, quit making up boogiemen and being so dramatic.

it is possible to get back on track if we play our cards right. it's gonna take some serious reform but we can pull it off.

Sure I agree there needs to be huge cuts...mostly that 500 pound defence gorilla. There also needs to be higher taxes on the millionairs who really don't work any harder than the Janitor making $7 hour. You cant even feed a family on minimum wage.

Minimum wage is just that; it was never intended to support a family. It's not G.E.'s or Walmarts or Fords' responsibility if a broom pusher can't feed his 6 kids in the trailer park.We need people to push brooms but they will be paid what the market demands; Should they get paid the same as someone with a masters in an engineering field?

Why is it the all the liberal democrats on ATS talk like the republicans are the only party looking out for the rich? The democrats have just as many rich supporters how else do you think Obama got $750 million in campaign funds in the 2008 election. Do you think that he got it from the poor $1 dollar at a time
Go look at all the $500,000 checks he got from wall street

Exactly, it starts by looking at facts instead of saying "All of our previous leaders sucked, except for this dude I just voted for"

Stop putting your money in banks

Stop supporting corporate America

And for heaven's sake PLEASE stop the "partisan" "Bi-partisan" bull. Each head on a hydra may not agree on everything, but they'll sure as hell work together to keep the body alive, even if they have to sever a head or two.

I am very happy they finally got the congress to cut spending but they were wrong in not removing subsidies for CEO jets and Oil companies etc... should have been a compromise.

Do you really believe this bullcrap? Do you know what these "subsidies for CEO jets and Oil companies" are?

Corpoarte jets loopholes: a depreciation of the value of the jet over a period. Exactly like what a farmer gets for his tractors, etc. Or an auto mechanic gets for his diagnostic machines and tools. Or a landscaper gets for his mowers etc.

Standard business practices that are available to all businesses. So why single out corporate jets?

Because only "rich people" own corporate jets.

You have been suckered by the class warfare mantras that Obama is feeding you.

Oil subsidies? Let's see what Neal Boortz has to say about it:

The only tax in which the oil industry seems to get special treatment compared to other industries is intangible drilling costs. The amount of that subsidy? That would be $0.78 billion per year -- enough to fund less than two hours of federal spending in 2011, and not even half the amount we are lending a foreign-owned and state-owned oil company for drilling offshore Brazil

Boortz

Please. Don't be suckered by the Politics of Fear that is being played by Obama. And don't fall for that class warfare that he is using to divide our nation. He talks to you like you're a 10 yr old and you swallow it hook, line, and sinker.

Your one of those with your head in the sand. Obama never intended to levy more tax on you. Your the poor at 60k a year. Sorry to break it to you. Obama and the Dems want YOU to pay less and the millionair CEO and companies to pay more.

Wake up my friend.

Hate to break it to you but this country has been running on one form of Reaganomics or another for 30 years and it has been in great decline and ever rising debt ever since. Wake up.

Yeah. right. You keep thinking this.

When those millionaires start paying more, so do we.

Short of ALL of our off shore business coming back home and putting people back to work, we will NEVER have an economy.

Are there some rich guys that are figuring out how to work the system? Hell yeah.

ya know what? good on em! They produced the material and profits. What does the govt produce? Nada. Therefore, the govt has no claim on our money (other than at gunpoint).

The govt is supposed to sustain itself on tarriffs from outside (thus protecting its own interest).

No a broom pusher shouldn't make what an engineer makes but was it the broom pusher who drove up the cost of living? Was he buying the McMansion or was he living cheaply in a trailer? A family could at one time provide the basics on pretty little actually.

Seems to me those broom pushing folks were possibly the only ones living within their means now 2 minimum wage jobs will hardly sustain their lavish lifestyles. The working poor don't often qualify for assistance or higher wages. Any talk of raising minimum wage gets everyone complaining about it driving up the cost of consumer goods. Yet those cost have gone up anyway because of the lavish lifestyles of others. Seems a bit like the old do as I say not as I do. They have to somehow live in this blood sucking mess while everyone begrudges them a wage. As the cost of everything keeps going up they'll soon qualify for welfare and people will begrudge them that too.

He can let the tax cuts expire and it will be simply be spun as him spending more money. The next round of fiscal year budget talks begins in September. The "super congress" is to have their spending cuts presented by the end of November.

The entire process will once again make Obama look weak. He's never had a budget passed. He won't be able to assist in the negotiations of the super congress. The tea party will hold up the budget until cuts have not only been agreed to but large cuts made prior to the budget being passed. This puts Obama into early 2012 floundering around with no budget - actually never having passed a budget, unable to break the congressional log jam. Whether or not the tax cuts expire, this entire business has been an absolute loser for Obama.

During the budget crisis of 1995 when Clinton and Gingrich were going head to head and we had much of the same thing. "the contact for America is extremist" "the republicans are killing the country" and all that same rubbish, Clinton's poll numbers went up by 15 points. The same spin is going on in the media and yet Obama's poll numbers have dropped. People have lost confidence in Obama and the scheduling and timing of what came out of this budget deal were specifically designed to highlight his weaknesses during the election cycle. It will work

Well it seem the elite just plugged the loopholes allowing the people any control.

They just staged a palace coup.

There is no more America!!! It's been bought and sold a long time ago. But, picking a side inside the arena and fighting about it on a day to day basis does help you deal with your political religon. Gets you through the day doesn't it?
