Consider linda Blair in the exorcist. This film was made way back in the early 70 s and had a very young child playing one of the most disturbing rolls in film history, with lines that are higly controversial even by today's standards. Even though many of her lines were dubbed, she had to speak them in filming to get lip sync.

From what I know Linda Blair did grow up with no major mental problems, such as drug abuse, as far as the public record goes.

Although I think there is a relevant point made here each situation is determine on the individuals involved. The parents do have to sign off on these things and ultimately it is their decision what their child is exposed to, with in the confines of the law.

I also must admit, as far as examples of controversial roles for children to play, the butterfly effect was not that bad. There was the scene portraying child pornography, however it was more sudgestive and again far from some of the lines spoken by Blair in the exorcist.

Right... surley this thread has gone on long enough... its as bad as violence in video games type threads!!

Actors and actresses ACT out scene's they do not have sex with each other when it looks like they are, they do not take drugs when it looks like they are and they do not kill people when it looks like they are...

if you want a character to be evil/a child molestor/ generally bad person and the specific role calls for them to be abusing children then how pray tell could you do this without child actors and trickery??

if you want to make them look like they smoke, or fire guns, say you were making a movie about the twins in Thai land in charge of "gods army" how could you show they were having sex and smoking without on screen it look like they were having sex and smoking??

To me this seems absurd as many posts for this argument have suggested the posters do not fully understand laws of the land or acting.

i no scene ever in modern hollywood has a child be naked/molested/made to smoke/ take drugs, they most likley live a better life than any of the posters on ATS as to get a good child actor is difficult, many of our current actors/musicians were child actors/stars... im sure someone will be all "yeah look what it did to X (insert standard celebrity gone wrong) but for every x there is a A-W star that didnt go mad, get full of drugs or kill themselves.

if you dont like violent movies... if you dont like movies that contain kids that have adult theme's if you dont like children being scared then dont watch the movies...

Curiously what would be the easier option? not have children in movies with adult theme's? create an entire fictional universe that doesnt have children in it as if bad things happen it should happen to children? where would this moral stand point take us next... you couldnt show a gay being discriminated against as it unsettles gays... there could be a movie with the Klan or Black panthers in it because black or white people find the treartment of the other race??

Should all movies be Disney esk movies because you dislike seeing movies that address sometimes real life adult issues??

im sorry as i have already said this seem ridiculous this is simply like me saying i dont like movies with Aliens abducting people as i find it unsettling then complaining about it as if it is real alien abductions that is happening!!

once again another numerous amount of posts where censorship has went mad! blame movies! blame games! burn books!!!

and to me, therein is one of the problems. Many of todays parents grew up as children of hippies and other weirdo's and have never instilled morals and ethics to their own children, much less understand the need for it themselves.

Stay tuned for next thread:

"Why is Skins allowed to be filmed?!"

and then the following thread "I don't like this! It shouldn't be allowed!"

Here's some advice: It's a film. Stop being so butthurt by a Hollywood movie with Ashton Kutcher in it.

...and, imo, the biggest problem is that many of today's parents were children of fundamentalist puritan sociopaths and white supremacist psychopaths who are incapable of comprehending morals or ethics, just like their parents and ancestors cuz its an eons-old generationally transmitted disease intentionally created to insure the over-population of mental deficients...

...ah, i feel better now... dont you?...

here is a word of REAL advice to those who are worried about their children: while your attention is focused on your crusade against the filming, the music industry, the gaming industry - you are leaving your children WIDE OPEN to the REAL predators in society, which are your friends, family members, spouses, teachers, camp counselors, etc. - child molesters aren't actors in movies, they're people you know and trust... you trust them so much that you trust them with your children and you think nothing of it. they are cunning, sociopathic individuals who know how to position themselves in society to be close to children and to be trusted with children. they are the bus driver, the guy that works a McDonalds and spends way too much time wiping tables in the play area. They're the man you marry and allow into your home, and into your bed. They're your brother, father, PRIEST.

Forgetting this truth is a horrible mistake on your part.

And, while i am on the subject, the content of that scene in The Butterfly Effect was a great reminder of WHO you need to be the most suspicious of (after all, it WAS her father in the movie). I have to wonder, when you guys watched that scene, did you pay attention to the CONCEPT of the scene at all,or did you just get hung up on the fact that kids were in such a "dirty" scene? Because if it is the latter, then i kind of have to wonder about YOU and where YOUR mind is.... there is something seriously Freudian going on here with the way that some of you viewed the children in that scene. When i watched it, all i could think of was, what a shame this happens IN REAL LIFE. When you guys watched it, all you saw was naked kids. There is something not quite right about that.

And just when women and even some men are finally finding their voice and are able to admit when these horrible things happened to them as children... someone comes along and shoves em right back into the closet.

Maybe if you don't portray it in movies it won't really exist.

I think the OP needs to watch Ken Park. Then they can shut their mouth about "feeling physically sick". I don't get it; why is ATS full over overly sensitive people?

I've seen a bunch of threads on here featuring really retarded YouTube clips, nothing even offensive, and all you hear is a collective of people saying "nurrrrrgh made me feel so queasy, i cudnt evn walk 4 three days".

I bet the same people are also the types of people that push strollers down the street and feel like they have the foremost obligation of using the damn footpath, shoving everyone off that gets in their way as they loudly talk about mundane crap with their soccer mum friend.

There was no actual intercourse between minors in the movie, there was no real violence against minors or anyone in that movie. It's a movie. Movie is not life. If you are conservative then don't watch the movie but don't spoil it for everyone else by whining about things like this.

With respect, archasama!

I've only ever heard of one complaint from a child actor regarding what was filmed and it was the lead boy in the movie Kes. In one scene he was caned along with some other boys and the film-makers bribed them with an extra £5 to do that scene. They took the money, complained later.

The majority of kids these days have 2+ sets of parents, grandma has fake breasts, there's a stripper pole in the living room, everyone's zombied out on pain pills....and you're upset about a movie??? Nonsense. Movies are make-believe. Reality is f***ed up.

My point was not to not portray it but do it in a different way. I think you should allow people to be aware however that said I also think you should vote with your dollars you don't like it...don't watch it pretty simple.
I was also talking about unnecessary violence to women and children, ie the slasher flicks in which they are just meat led to the slaughter. This is stupid, gross out, tasteless cinema imho and does nothing to promote the rights of abuse victims and may in fact encourage that type of atrocity.

Actually you will find that many actors and actresses were abused (Maybe not on the set) but by their parents, relatives or close friends.

Funny then how the most famous abusers in the world are the catholic church and even they dont want to stop it, theyd rather cover it up instead.

I am very disturbed because of something I read on an ATS thread.

You need to chill out.

The Butterfly Effect is tame! In any event I'm sure the director would have asked the kid's parents and that the kids were well aware of what they were acting out.

Have you ever seen Idi i smotri (Come and See)? I imagine you'd probably have a complete nervous breakdown if you saw the scenes the child actor had to take part in in that film.

Another example of blatant decadence brought to you by the Hollywood Liberals.
Wouldn't surprise me if Sharon Stone was involved in this production.
