Truth is I have no idea what Ramadan is all about but many a muslim has wished me and my family a merry christmas or other happy holidays so I though I should return the sentiment and say

Ramadan is the time of year when Muslims spend time fasting, in prayer and in contemplative awareness, to evaluate how they are living their lives, and make sure they are dedicated and focused on their priorities. They use the time as a purification and rededication to their god.

It's really very similar to Lent for Catholics. It's even similar to the Christmas season for Christians. It's about refocusing on what's important. Family, friends and spirituality.
