Gameboy ROM sites, half hour song downloads and MSN messenger.

Also Counter Strike 1.4/5 (ping ~212). Oh and ETG's IRC server (AUSfegs only), prolly still up and running - I left with the cs community though.

Scripting my own Gopher search strings before there were search engines.

The day AOL destroyed the existing usenet community
where many actual scientists and leading professors would post
and watching them retreat as the trolls tipped the bus over with pr0n.

OK OK, this is how retarded I was back in the day with the internet. I had AOL, Prodigy and Compuserve all at the same time. I didnt know it was all the same internet.

I remember going to the library because they were the only ones in town that had an internet connection. They had a directory like a phone book that you could use to look up the URL of web sites and type them in by hand. Mostly text only with an occasional picture here and there.

MSN messenger
MSN messenger still exists, it's just called Windows Live Messenger now. I use it more than anything else actually.

I know it still exists, most of my generation left for greener (subjective) pastures some time ago though, that was the internet I used to visit.

I remember my dad flipping out because some neo-nazis took over his favorite chatroom in the 90s. Before that I just new the internet was "serious business" for adults. I wanted to know why he was so angry so he explained about politics and how the computer was a new information tool. I was hooked! I used to go on with him for supervised chats on AOL lol it was our father-daughter bonding ritual to go attack the nazis.
