Are you a fan of the movie "Serenity" or "Star Wars"? How about the tv-show "FireFly"?

Why were those movies successful?

What was the main premise of both movies? Anyone?

Yes, the direction of these questions is topic related.

---- edited for answer ---

They were about a small group (minority) of individuals fighting to overcome a massive dictatorship (majority).

I have not seen "Serenity," or "FireFly," but I've have seen "Star Wars" about 400 times [+ - 200.]

I believe the main premise in Star Wars- Is that good triumphs over evil; but good has too be very careful or evil will triumph in the end.

The "evil empire" in Star Wars, was small in comparision to the powers of the force; and the humanoid population of that galaxy.

From the outside looking in, it really looks this simple:

The US is being held to ransom by pseudo religious extremists, deeply racist, who veil their prejudice behind a constitution which is out-dated, misquoted and religiously misrepresented. They are willing to let America default for their own agenda, which is essentially money, power and ego. There is no care for the land beneath the feet of the American public, there is no compassion for hard working people who are struggling in difficult times, there is only insular greed, clique vanity and religious incomprehension, leaked in a politics.

Americans are such wonderful people, I envy the passion & belief in their own soil but do not fool yourself that the gun by your side, the flag that flies outside your home, paper constitution held at the NAaRA and the bible on your shelf will ever make the blindest bit of difference. You are controlled, herded and in for a very big fall.

Welcome to the world the rest of us live in.

Thats easy enough

So, you had things going fine...paid all the bills, employment was great, country chuggling along nicely.
Sure, we still get the odd bubble and burst, but meh...capitalism..what can you expect.

Then something happens...someone flips a switch and everything crashes
Logically, you flip the switch back and put a "do not touch" sticker on it so that doesn't happen again...simple.

Except that now you got people roaring that we should never touch the switch...a minority, sure, but still, enough to hold back someone from putting the switch back to where it was.

Flip the damn switch, stop the bush stimulius tax cuts already! it had the opposite effect, it crashed everything, and flipping it -will- make everything cool again financewise....stop being foolish.

Thats it...and thats what the whole 08 election was about...to stop the damn cuts...yet the dems failed to do that (because of unemployment compensation extension...weak). the people sent in a different group to try to sort it out then, and now its worse than before.

Liberals on the idea of less Govt, yes.
Liberals in the current idea, no.

The concept of firefly was the nations merged into one. socialism and capitalism creates corporatism sort of philosophy, the whole world was run as a corporation overall.
The cast was raging against the corporate machine...it was not a story about the woes of big or small government, it was a story about corruption through love of money...its actually a fairly in depth conversation, not one for this thread, but interesting nonetheless with some parallels.

The whole idea is that merger from corporation to government kills off the people's voice. That is the scary part of today as we see more and more large corporate influence being pushed into governments of the west...it quickly stops becoming a democracy (after all, what person can compete with a multi-billion dollar corporation...a person can stand on a soapbox and deliver a message, a corporation can saturate all media with endless ads saying the opposite...)

Now, with that general understanding, find out which party is pushing for more and more corporate integration with the government...find out which party made corporations people, or how corporations can now spend unlimited anonymous funds towards superpacs...do some research and suddenly things become clear.

No, the tea party are akin to sith. (to jump to the star wars theme) as they currently stand.

Are you seriously suggesting that the Liberal Dems are better then the Conservative Rep?

The country is a republic not a democracy, and the tea party is not in power (the guy in power goes by the name Barack Obama although his real name is Barry Soetoro). If the tea party was guilty of blackmail the FBI would have arrested them by now, and who is the tea party exactly? 85 people who have been VOTED in? So you're conspiracy theory involves 85 people who were voted in who are collaborating with each other to commit blackmail upon the United States government? I'm enjoying this

I have to completely agree with the OP, and would like to addon more information to his statments.

First off, the "tea party" is a gigantic ruse that's utilizing social engineering to further agendas of the corporate nation -- which as the OP stated, is a fascist agenda. Most Tea Party members are having a gut reaction out of frustration to the political storm in Washington, but are not looking at the issues - or thinking about the Tea Party's motives in a critical manner.

For example -- The Tea Party was a FAST grass roots movement in this country, and when compared to previous grass roots movements it's growing popularity was nothing short of amazing. Have any of you asked HOW this happened? Sure word-of-mouth marketing played a part in it, but there were rally's, protests, websites, books, media appearances, viral videos, and more -- that were all part of the growing explosion of the Tea Party... Do any of you even understand the COST that's involved with this type of marketing? To give you a comparison, it costs $150,000 a day for products to have a strong online presence -- twitter, youtube, and the blog-o-sphere, and that's just to build exposure for an item that's being sold. How much more - or less - does it cost for an idea to be marketed like the Tea Party movement?

Here's the reality of the Tea Party movement - IT HAS BEEN FINANCED BY CORPORATE INTERESTS.

"The Billionaires Bankrolling the Tea Party"
www.nytimes.com...

"Who's Raising Money For Tea Party Movement?"
www.npr.org...

"Tea Party Funding Koch Brothers Emerge From Anonymity"
www.usnews.com...

"Congress Funding Tracker"
www.usnews.com...

Now, isn't this the EXACT same type of corruption that the Tea Party claims to be against? Why are they not up in arms over being duped?

then some people said "meh we dont need no stinking government" and formed the brown coats and oddly enough they lost agianst a better armed better funded all power orginzation and they lost.

What was the name given to the 'brown coats'? The Independents.

"Firefly" and "Serenity" was all about a disenfranchised group of individuals who sought freedom. Since a massive galaxy spanning empire was suppressing freedom, one small sized group of radicals sought to establish a Libertarian (Centralist) way of life.

'Tea Party' movement 'was' originally one of those revolutionary movements. As a result of being hammered by a Democrat swinging media (and Democrat loyalists), the movement's voice was practically lost due to allegations of bigotry. In order for the movement to survive, they took advantage of the Republican party's weakness. Since the Republican party was weakened in the 2008 election, the 'Tea Party' attacked the first vulnerable political group. Unfortunately, their existence had become exploited by a media company.

When the 'Tea-Party originally began as a movement, its members included Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Hispanic, Africans, Whites, poor, middle-class, and upper-class.

Ironically, if enough people fought against a Conservative takeover, the 'Tea Party' could have been one of the best political movements in modern history.

Do you know why its failing publicly? Democrat and Republican loyalists are getting away with defining the movement.

'Tea Party' movement was a missed opportunity. People were too blind to realize the movement's potential, so they allowed their view of the 'Tea Party' to be tainted by other loyalists.

Hmmm, well that would be anyone supporting the UN Agenda 21 program. You see they are promoting the so-called "public-private partnerships" which brings corporations under the domination of the One World govt. In case you didn't know it, it is not just the large corporations, but smaller NGOs involved. NGO is another Agenda 21 buzzword. It denotes any organization which is not direcly under government, and the UN seeks to use these groups to empower the One World govt agenda.
Another UN buzzword is "sustainability". And now where have we heard this term? Well practically everywhere these days. It's in Pottery Barn catalogs, and notebooks sold at DeVry bookstore outlets(I personally saw that one in school and in the catalogs) and it's especially in the rhetoric of liberal environmentalists. In fact, what it really is is a term to denote the depopulation agenda of the powerful elites, such as Rockefellers, and even Bill Gates. Gates is heavily involved in depopulation. He as much said so at a recent TED conference. Gates is one of the wealthiest men in the world, and a member of the Club of Rome. So when you talk about large corporations, I sure hope you include Microsoft.

You're completely wrong on how the government works.

The president only has the power to either a.) sign a bill into power, or b.) veto it.

Congress makes the bills, and with those 85 people refusing to come to a middle ground on this issue, they are effectively holding the country as hostage.

The "tea party" is exactly democratic. They are just a bunch of average people, mostly middle america group who see
this country headed in the wrong direction. They voted, democratically, to change that direction. What about all of the groups that support your leftist agenda. Example Media Matters, anything to do with George Soros and all of his groups that throw money, rallying the troups trying to change our country.

Why is it when you lefties don't agree with people it always comes to name bashing and whinning about being un-american. What's really bad for our country is the ignorant who blindly follow the mind mindset of Soros, Obama, Reid and Pelosi

You have no clue what you're talking about.

Actually that person knows exactly what he/she is talking about, I agree with said poster, and his/her post is quite accurate in fact.

The "tea party" is a group that is currently funded by freedomworks and Americans for Prosperity..both are shell organizations for major corporate fundings. Koch Brothers have their fingers in both, but mostly AfP.

They hire actors to read scripts on how to act, where to gather, bus around these actors to do their bidding, etc.
Ya, they are just your joe average billionare corporatists.

Nothing like pure deception to rally behind.

Yes God forbid a group of people who campaigned and were elected on a platform of fiscal responsibility and accountability go down the typical political road of abandoning the principles they were elected on so it can be polotics as usual.

This issue has been around long before the Tea party was born.

Blaming them is not only a joke, but shows just how far partisan polotics will go to blame anyone and anything before coming to the conclusion that Democrats and Republicans in Congress, as well as occupants of the White House are responsible for mismanaging the nations finance.

Ultimate responsibility lies with the voters however, who were to apathetic to do their jobs and hold their elected representatives ccountible.
