I don't know if there is a conspiracy involved here, but I do remember hearing an interview Saturday morning on Fox News with an official from the Charlotte county hospitals. She was discussing the types of injuries that had been showing up at the hospitals. She also made a comment that between 150 to 200 DOAs had come in over night.
I am certain the death toll will rise, but probably not by that extent. They are more then likely trying to match up, the missing with the dead and notify families before they add to the offical death toll.
Somebody certainly felt the death toll was going to be massive when the sent in the refrigerated trucks, and mourtuary teams.

Intetestingly, rense.com is now stating several hundred dead while CNN.com is a couple dozen. Maybe someone is counting with their fingers here and just need time to find more fingers to use.

I lived right near Tampa Bay for a few years, and I can say that people there, for the most part, are convinced they're somehow protected against any big storms, so maybe the people south of there felt the same way. I was in the area for a category 1 storm that went north of the bay, and even though I lived in a level 1 evacuation area none of my neighbors would leave even if they had to. (They laughed and called me a northern idiot for saying I would!)

I can see the gov't. NOT wanting criticism of FEMA or the so-called President in an election year (just remember how badly Lawton Chiles' image was hurt by the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew), so maybe the mainstream press is just trying to downplay the damage. But I think if there were several hundred dead we would be hearing that from more than one or two sources.

Here's some news about the possibility of more deaths in Florida www.bradenton.com...

1) there really ARE several hundred people dead, and the media not only won't report it but it shrugs off any possibility of the sheeple catching on, and holding the media in contempt for lying.

2) the government casualty figures are more or less correct and jeff rense is an irresponsible amateur, government stooge, and/or shameless liar.

if the answer is "1)" then my guess is we are very, very close to a massive terrorist attack. why? because these media guys seem to take for granted that our minds will all be on something else in the near future, not some run of the mill hurricane in florida and a major falsification of the death figures for it. they are already in gear to be a mouthpiece for the government, and nothing else.

I have been wondering if there were trailer parks full of stubborn old folks who couldn't or wouldn't have the ability to leave in a hurry. These same folks might rather go down with their pad rather than leave and have nothing left being on a fixed income with no one to support them. I wouldn't be too happy if I was 87 with physical handicaps and living on social security and a hurricane might wipe out my home and lifetime possessions. I'd probably just have a similiar attitude if it's my time to go, then it's been nice while it lasted. goodbye.

On the other hand, the only report of hundreds dead has been this source here that I read in this thread. I wouldn't understand why the government would hide the fact that 400 people died if in fact that is true. I mean everyone would say that is awful, then go about their lives as normal. Just give the people two weeks and almost everyone will forget or think of it as a distant memory. The only exception would be the constant reminders when future hurricanes threaten for the need to evacuate, we wouldn't want another Punta Gorda disaster etc. etc.

Below is an email i received about the death toll lies being told.

On Media's Failure To Report The Florida Death Toll Truthfully...

It appears that local Florida print media and various eyewitness accounts are reporting that there are many unreported deaths in Charlotte County Florida, (See: www.bradenton.com... for but one example). I believe the implications of main-stream media's failure to report on this situation foretells of the grave and serious erosion of our liberties, and indeed, even to the unraveling of the very fabric of our society in the United States....

The freedom hard won and enjoyed in this country of course are based upon certain 'rights' - Freedom of speech/press, Freedom of religion, Right to bear arms, etc.... We've watched as the freedom of religion has been assaulted (well... Christianity/Judaism anyway), the Right to bear arms has been restricted which goes without saying, and we've watched as our mainstream press has been downgraded to the point it is a one-party socialist/leftist/Democrat mouthpiece. That's bad enough, but at least our press was reporting the news till recently, although it's been 'slanted' to the left. But when a major "natural" disaster occurs, and the facts are just not only skewed - but either ignored or even presented in deception - then we have crossed a corner totally ominous in scope - a corner with a stop sign that had separated us from the socialist/dictatorship/totalitarian government medias of the rest of the world.

No, I don't feel it was the "Gov." in the sense of the Bush administration failing to report the situation in Florida accurately , - in point of fact it was the local Gov. of Emergency Management of that County in Florida. It's probably safe to assume that the authority for that decision was at least from FEMA directive however. And it's not the knowledge of the amount of carnage to give some kind of a satisfaction to curiosity that is the concern here - it is media-control and reality control that is the grave issue....

It's always been a given that during military engagements the press is restricted as to reporting: troop movements, deployment, causality figures, etc.... But these should be the ONLY limits on a free-press. A natural disaster, nor matter how horrific, is something that falls into the realm of free-speech - and regardless of the situations surrounding such an event - a democracy must never allow themselves to change the public reality of the event for imagined 'security', economic, or any touchy-feely reasons. It is one thing if they had said something like: Due to the amount of damage, and ongoing rescue efforts causality figures and ground situation reporting will be delayed for a number of days. - That's fine, prudent even perhaps; - but to say that there is no problem, and mislead the public with a "19" official death count and then to not even mention that any situation exists in the Florida County hardest hit, is an attempt at reality-control, and the beginnings of an animal-farm 1984 type mindset and press. In the 50's and 60's it used to be joked that there were no natural disasters in Russia, they simply weren't reported on, (all for the good and security of the state mind you.) But in this country, when security is placed above freedom with the premise that terrorists "might" capitalize on a natural event - so we then will change the facts for public consumption - then the terrorists have already scored an immense victory!

It's a valid function of Gov. to increase surveillance, (within the bounds of the Constitution), during times of crisis; and to wage war on the enemy as the Bush administration is doing - that's all fine and good. - But it is never a function of Gov. &/or the media to muzzle free-speech/press for a non-specific perceived threat when it involves a public, natural, and non-military event! Our strength has been to examine tragedy and all things in the 'light', and confront our peril and grief squarely and openly. There is already overwhelming restriction of the truth being practiced by the U.S. mainstream media: not Politically Correct, not leftist enough in agenda, too Christian, not pro-Arab enough, too pro-gun, etc... - so they simply either slant news events or just simply fail to report them altogether, and so we get only a 'filtered' news today. So when for the 'public good' this ability is further diminished in any way - even for the best of intentions - especially to the point of manipulating the public's perceived reality of a major natural news event - then it indicates the loss of our circumspection as a society; the erosion of our right to know, examine, discuss and apply the truth; and the resulting death of our liberty and freedom.

Rense and Rumormillnews tend to be pretty unreliable. Rumormill News reprots... well.. rumors. And Rense posters often post those items as true items without investigating them.

My dad lives there (30 miles away from where it came ashore) and, as others who have relatives there or live there are reporting, there doesn't seem to be any indication of massive casualties.

A few hundred unaccounted for voters in Florida? Hmmmm.....

It seems like family members of "several hundred" casualties would have come forward with something by now.

It would be impossible to lie about the death toll. All those bodies would have to be processed somewhere and a census of the mortuaries in the area would be simple enough.

The "conspirators" could not just dispose of the bodies, because then you would have people looking for their friends and relatives and there would be a huge list of missing persons.

Disposing of even one body is no mean feat and it doesn't get any easier as the numbers mount.

This is hogwash.

The official death toll is 22.

State Reports 20th Hurricane-Related Fatality
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida Department of Law Enforcement Director Guy Tunnell reports state officials are counting the death of a man in Polk County as the 20th fatality related to Hurricane Charley.

Tunnell says an 86-year-old man who had evacuated his home fell and died while he was in a motel in Polk County.

Tunnell says he doesn't have any other details about the man, including where he lived.

Not sure if this topic is being followed anymore but here is an interesting article that I have found. Kind of explains some inconsistancies with the death count.

www.sptimes.com...

It does make sense that without anysort of standard anything withen a 3-day period can be considered a hurricane death. Basically using thier criteria, I get a splinter while getting something from my house that was blown over, the next day it gets infected. The infection travels through my body and withen 5 days I die. According to thier criteria, my death would be hurricane related.

On one hand if the hurrican never blew over my house, I wouldn't need to rescue anything therefore not getting a splinter, infection, dying. On the other hand the hurricane didn't directly kill me and can be argued that my death is not hurricane related. Truthfully I am not sure which way to go. I suppose "I think therefore I am".

YOu also have to realize that if you live here, there are lots of illegal/legal immigrants who work in the state of Florida, and there is also any extremely large homeless population. Many of these people live in areas that you would not believe humans live. This storm cut a path throguh the state with a ferocity never seen. I worked in Kissimmee cleaning up for days, and the winds there reported at the Local Airport a few miles from my inlaws was 135 mph. Now, from where is came ashore to Kissimmee, there are many unincorporated areas with residences for thse immigrants or the poor. Many of those homes have been flattened, and maybe there will be some more deaths found. but there is no conspiracy.
As far as the body bags that have been mentioned, I don;t think i ever read they were full? So they (FEMA,police,Nat'l Gaurd)had body bags, I think that shows preparedness, not conspiracy.

There is no need to cover up deaths from a natural disaster. The more deaths, the more the networks could play it up and take our minds off things like the upcoming election or the war in Iraq we are not winning so easily.

side note- Is is kind of strange however that it turned so sharpley at the last second to miss CENTCOM and SOCOM's HQ at MAcDill AFB which would have taken a direct hit. That would not have been good for us.

I doubt the accuracy of the story.

As many people know who have friends or relatives in those parts of Floriday, easily 70% of the residents simply are not home. The term "Snow Birds" defines the residents who have winter homes in Floriday, and live somewhere north during the summer months.

So... at best, 1 in 3 homes were occupied... and something like 95% evacuated... so I highly doubt there would be a massive death toll.

I lived in Florida for 15 years and NEVER saw an area where 2/3rds of the homes were vacant. There simply aren't that many snowbirds in FL. 10% possibly. 20% maybe. But nowhere close to nearly 70%. The area where I was at had a TON of old people. er... older people

There is one very good reason to hide all the deaths, Insurance payouts.

Dead people do not make claims, and the living cannot make claims on their behalf if dead relatives are simply listed as missing. We are talking about some really serious money here.

Another reason is that a very high reported death toll would reflect badly on the government for many reasons. That would not be good going into an election.

Nothing to see here folks, just move along...................

Insurance payout conspiracy is bull. They already have you by the cajones when you pay for insurance in a flood area. My mother lives oin the intercoastal facing the coast, about 500 yards from the Gulf. She pays over 7000 a year in insurance, and many people CANNOT get specific types of flood insurance because companies simply will not cover you. They will state that we will cover water damage but not damage from flying objects or foriegn items(very very vague example, but use your mind), and the claims system is horrible. We have a relative on ther East Coast who wound up with a boat in a rear bedroom after a storm. Since the boat was not his, he was not allowed a full claim, catastrophic coverage was not there since it was not a Hurricane(just a no-name storm) and was advised to sue the neighbor 4 homes down who owned the boat. It is like a MOnte Python skit trying to get a good claim in FL. So there is no reason for them to try to save money, they are raping you on the front end.
