In the house at least... we'll see if it passes in the senate...

Stocks Reverse Entire Overnight Dump On One Headline

Update : Boehner tells reported "I am smiling"
Update 2: Cantor says has votes to pass bill

I wonder if this is the crappy bill... the original... or a new one... I guess they have to ``pass it before we can read it``...

The ``original version`` of the bill REALLY cuts 900 billion over 10 years... cuts about 20 billion in 2012... So in the next 10 years, the US is on path to create 10 trillion in new debt... and Boehner's plan (if followed for 10 years (good luck with that)) will only increase the debt ceiling by 9.1 trillion... the US is saved!

Oompa loompa on viagra (Boehner/Boner) should resign if he has one ounce of dignity left. (which he hasn't)

There's going to be a big broom next year. Obama, Reid, Boehner, et al as far as I'm concerned.

Damned shame. Seeing our country getting pissed away for political expediency.

US Representative Cantor says debt limit vote will be sometime today and they have the votes to be able to pass the bill

Time for the rating agencies to man up and downgrade the US. The democrat and republican bills are a freaking joke.

Well unfortunately no. Reid is there for the next 6 years. He was reelected in 2010. He frauded the election with his son... His son owns the company to have the voting machines... and guess what.. Reid was losing by several points... then an electrical blackout happened... and then he was winning by several points... The whole thing is a fraud.

Boehner and Obama will probably be reelected too.

It's a big waste of time for them to spend so much time on a bill they 100% know has zero chance of passing the Senate.

This is what happens when a "grassroots" movement like the Tea Party gets idiots involved...they elect idiots...and these idiots have the potential to ruin the country.

Please explain to me how any groups members could be more idiotic then the idiot in the white house and his staff, and well....liberals.

Mea Culpa on Reid.

When you see overwhelming numbers of the enemy about to attack, do you run away or dig in for the fight with extra ammo?

Let the senate be the cause of the country's demise because they refused the fix instead of approving a bill that will kick the can down the road, which is an absolute certain country's demise. Stand and fight, to the death if need be.

Update : here's the bill they have the votes to pass...

The bill.

I don't know what changed... and I doubt anyone in congress had time to read it to see what are the changes... and they gonna vote on it today...

But it must be quite something since the last bill was about 4 pages... and this one is 104 pages...

This is yet another ``pass it to read it`` bill...

So much for that 3 day before voting on it pledge...

Oh I don't know...maybe the fact that Tea Partiers have decided to vote no on ANY debt ceiling raise.

I doubt you even understand what implications that has though...and I doubt they do either.

Because when you are in debt, you spend more. Yes?

Because when you reach your credit limit with no way to pay it back, you extend that limit. Right?

Because when you have bills due...you need to pay them. Right?

Because when your credit rating is in jepordy, you don't play political games and pander to idiots. Yes?

This isn't a discussion on spending more...this is a discussion about paying your current debts so your credit and credibility doesn't drop.

It is peoples failure to understand this simply fact that is causing this fabricated crisis. This is not about spending...it is about paying existing debt.

There's way enough money to pay even if the debt ceiling ain't raised.

You do know that if you don't make enough cuts, your rating gets crushed too? So far, both parties plans are total BS and will get the US a downgrade.

Do your freaking research. Stop believing the lies.

THE US GOVERNMENT HAS ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY ALL THE IMPORTANT BILLS. And if they do business as usual, as they are doing right now, YOU WILL GET DOWNGRADED.

We do.

But real change takes guts.

The implications will suck if it's not raised..However, we are all in for a ride no matter what. One day we are going to have to face the fact that America is bankrupt. Do you think putting reality in the closet is going to help? Putting a band-aid on a deep wound will only make it look better for a little while, but it fixes nothing.

I think people are fed up with all the delays on the inevitable. Passing a bill that takes care of 1.2 trillion over 10 years will not fix our 14 trillion debt or do anything about future debts that will only add to the pile. In order to re-build, first we must let it collapse. We can only elude reality for so long.

we have enough money to pay what we actually need to pay. we DO need a debt ceiling increase to help get us back on our feet, but by itself, its worthless.

its worthless with the cuts republicans want, and its worthless with the taxes democrats want. neither side is going far enough. any bill that did go far enough wouldn't pass either side of congress.

the only way to force the government to do the right thing (if congress won't) is to not raise the debt ceiling.

Yes you do. But you don't go in debt to pay debt. Simple economics.

Because when your credit rating is in jeopardy, you don't play political games and pander to idiots. Yes?

So you go more in to debt, knowing you can't pay it back, because you want to look good in ratings.

That has been the argument every time there has been a ceiling raise. Yet we are still in debt.

There is enough money to pay the bills past Aug 3, but not for long.

Fact is that things will start being cut, SS, Medicare, and on and on and on.

This is not the right way to make cuts...you do it through legislation.

That's not real change...it is suicide.

It is the hope from people who are down on their luck, because misery loves company and they want to bring everyone down with them.

It's pathetic and simple minded.

Wow! The stock market is only down a little bit today with the Nasdaq being up at this current point with the debt crisis still playing out and the GDP numbers down in the crapper that came out today.

So Boehner's bill now as the votes all of a sudden? I wonder how much money he is giving these politicians to switch their votes. You know, a little under the table deal? How about a $20,000 Rolex watch or a luxurious trip to Fiji if you just vote "Yes". It reminds me of this.

Or did he put his boehner up their butts last night? I mean he did just say a few days ago "get your asses in line".

Just a simple FYI (although your method is the prefered).

It is a tried and tested method to increase and consolidate your debt prior to pay downs. It has been used successfully by millions of average citizens and 3 governments (that I know of off hand).

However, it only works if it is coupled with a tightly controlled fiscal policy, and a balanced budget that includes guaranteed payments.

The US would be very capable of handling it this way if the partisan BS was controlled.
