I think we all know the answer to this question. They are going to bury this report, and if they can't do that then they are going to have their own "experts" asure the public that there is no cause for concern.

That's pretty inaccurate reporting on your part. That's not exactly what the article is about.

Im not sure what you read, but the jist is that the FAA thinks this new 4G network will interupt airline communication causing accidents.

On the otherhand LightSquared is arguing that their new network will help emergency responders.

So they are talking about saving lives with their system, but the FAA is worried it will cause problems with their networks.

Ah this story comes up again. If I recall the issue is not that the new network is a problem but that the current lax design of commercial GPS units is to blame. Large airlines and military type GPS units are not in question it is the private units like Garmin for instance that private planes use. The problem comes from a lax design/manufacturing system. It allowed the units to be made so that signals out of their appropriate band width can be received. The solution is obvious. Force the GPS manufactures to install a band pass filter on their devices, thus preventing the signals from interfering. There is a real problem, but one easily solved. Companies like Garmin just need to ensure their devices are limited to the proper signals. This is like saying the TV stations are causing interference on the FM radio. All antennae can pick up all electromagnetic waves. It is the responsibility of the device manufacturer to ensure the signals outside the “wanted” band are filtered out. Garmin and the likes just need to step up and improve their designs.
