Yea some of the ads that pop up in the corner make me wonder. It is always something of interest to me.

It even creeps me out how certain sites I belong to offer suggestions based on my browsing history. I dont like that at all.

As for advertisements. I do NOT like them on youtube! Most annoying thing ever and I also dont care for the ones on DVDs where you cant fast forward!

Advertising and sales!!
Gawd I can not freaking stand it when people try to pitch their garbage products or special club card junk on me. Especially when I have already told them no. And it's everywhere now, everywhere you go to buy anything they try and pressure you into buying or signing up for some stupid scam con rip off.

I wont lie I use my member cards at CVS and Winn Dixie
I get lots of free coupons from beauty purchases on my CVS card so that one I like but you don't need a a card for any store. If you don't have one they HAVE to swipe theirs. That is what most people don't realize so they get one. I have one just because I use the CVS points towards a college fund for my nephew and I have always had a Winn Dixie card, first job.

Yesterday I called my cable company to downgrade my service because I'm too poor to afford all the spiffy stuff. I even told the lady that. Immediatly after explaining to her how broke I am she tried for a good 5-10 minutes to sell me all sorts of premium stuff and sign me up for so called "free" movie packages. Oh its free eh? Oh what's that? Its only free for 3 months? You forgot to mention that right?.

Ahhh they sent you to a retention rep. I use to work in that dept, believe me it is not fun to be yelled at all day. I was never good in that dept because i know what it is like to live on a budget and when someone says no they can't afford it I don't push but some companies will write you up if you don't rebuttal three times with the customer. Whenever someone called to cancel I said one rebuttal and after that I was done, I got in trouble a few times but it was against my own beliefs. I wasn't going to push someone into something they can't afford.

I work for a corporate controlled automotive repair shop as a mechanic and there is an insane amount of pressure on me as well as our service writers to sell everything we possibly can whether the car needs it or not. They get away with it because as long as we say our reconmendatiions are "suggestions" then we can never get sued or anything. Well as a mechanic I can "suggest" pretty much anything simply because your vehicle has reached a certain mileage whether that part is in immaculate condition or not. It is a disgusting practice that I take no part in, so of course I have the worst sales and labor rates outta everybody I work with and am constantly threatened with termination or lower hours. Unfortunatly EVERYONE else I work with is happy to kiss the corporate boot and do what they are told, especially since they get paid plenty of money for every repair theyare able to sell and perform. It very much sickens me to see people misled by my piece of crap greedy coworkers and employer and truly hope I can one day play a role in bringing this company down.
I won't say which company I work for, but it has been around for a long time and was once known for their catalogs.

I have had places try this with me but it never works. I have had them tell me if I don't do this or that my car will break down. Im not a dumb female. I know when filters and oil needs to be changed. Im very anal about car maintenance so it is done when it is suppose to. I have gone in for oil changes and had them tell me I need new spark plugs and that my battery should be replaced...and if they looked at it, it was 2 mths old!

I know which company you are referring to and that is sad but it doesn't surprise me.......there is another place that does this and I would never take my car to this place for service...ever. It's Wal Mart!

The other complaint I have? Banks...enough said

Worked in a bank, loved it but didn't like how things were done. I havent had a bank account in years and I don't deal with banks if I don't have to. I prefer not to because I consider them criminals. I get flack for not having a bank account but I like to keep my money and not have someone spend it on various charges and then not tell me what they were and expect me to pay them

Great thread!

I totally agree with everything written previously!
Another huge complaint I personally have it the absolute lack of basic courtesies on on the part of just about every retailer out there: what happened to please and thank you?
I am so weary of being dismissed as if they would not miss my business one bit if I shopped elsewhere because I sure don't get any notice that my business "matters..."

I find it very rude when you are at a check out and the person doesnt even acknowledge you being there. I have had them talking to their friends next to them or another co worker and not even say hi or anything! I find that very rude.

Rudeness is just not acceptable to me neither is attitude: I am a great tipper because I did waitress for a long time and know it's a hard job. However if you act like you're doing me a favor? Not cool! There are many restaurants here that are now auto-adding a 20% tip for a table of only 4...where is the incentive for any service of any kind, even a water refill? I know...people aren't leaving tips but as one who literally killed her body waiting on tables,I don't like the assumption.

Agreed! I tip very well too and it all depends on their behavior.

I actually ordered lunch at work from a local place a while back and it was an HOUR late. I called and they said they forgot and that it would be right there, another 25mins went by and it finally arrived. Now keep in mind the place I ordered from is literally a block up the road. It came and I tipped nicely because it wasn't the drivers fault, it was the moron taking the order! So I opened my food and it was COMPLETELY wrong and the bread was burnt. I called to complain because they also forgot an item I ordered and paid for. The lady on the phone got nasty with me and said it was busy and that she'd like to see me come there and do her job! I wasn't even mean to her either! I was amazed and in awe she said that to me. I was a customer and everything about my order was wrong, I felt i had a right to call and complain. She then hung up on me! I called back and told her that if she wanted I would come down there and run circles around her and she could come do my job which is NOT easy and guaranteed she'd want her nice little cafe job back. This is not the first time I have been cursed at for calling and complaining about an order. It seems every time I order it is always wrong lol It is like they get all defensive and don't take responsibility for their mistake and carelessness. There is NO customer service anymore.

Recently some friends threw a party for me at a chichi "girly"venue.Per the venue's rules, everything had to be pre-ordered for the party "in house".They had a fabulous cupcake tower, ordered appitizers, and we sat at a table that had been reserved weeks in advance from 7:30-10pm.Cocktails were ordered by all and they ranged from 12-15 dollars each. This was done FOR me,I'd probably never have indulged on my own!

At 10 pm,one of my friends was handed a hefty bill which she paid immediately although we hadn't asked for it yet.

We had planned to stay until maybe midnight...

We were THEN quite rudely told we needed to "vacate the table" as a DJ would start playing at 10:00pm and that our table happened to be in the VIP section...if we wanted to stay,it would be a $250.00 VIP table fee PLUS a ridiculous "bottle service" charge. We were shocked at this treatment,no one had said a word when the pricey-party arrangements were being made beforehand, and asked to speak to the manager. When the 8 gorgeous,high-end professional girls at the table were finished with the "owner",he not only escorted us to a BETTER table free of charge, but sent champagne as well.We stayed another 10 minutes or so and left with a very sour taste .

WOW! They should have told you! They just wanted your money and you to be in and out. I do not like it when they bring the check when I still have my food. It is rude and I feel like i am being rushed.

For what we spent in that restaurant/club,this we beyond awful treatment IMHO.No one honors agreements whether they be verbal or written...everyone tries to squeeze that long dollar out!

It's always about the dollar!

I'd never go back nor will my friends, many whom entertain for business and this way a PRIME example of how to attenpt to "fleece the sheep" even if they had on cute shoes,LOL!

Haha cute shoes

My top complaint. Speaking with service people who barely speak English! Whether Indians or Phillipinos.
It is down right aggravating to understand for starters.

My top complaint is speaking to customer service reps in India, Maylaysia, or anywhere else where the accents are too thick to help. As a matter of fact American businesses forcing me to divulge personal information like SSN, DOB, and other PI to people not under jurisdiction of American laws really pisses me off. I've worked on the retail side of the cell wireless industry for almost 8 years now and have to deal with India daily, and have with three companies now.

Running a close second are the third party content providers that use your cell/home phone to bill for services. This is the shadiest business practice that I've ever seen. Have you ever had a mysterious $9.99 charge show up on your phone bill? That is 3rd party content. These companies range from the ones like Jamster that have commercials that say stuff like Free Ringtones and then in the tiny print on the commercial it says $9.99/month. Others are even shadier I've seen people do things like take quizzes on facebook then it says if you'd like to find out the answers enter your cell #. Then in the fine print (if there is any) it mentions the $9.99/month subscription. There have been multiple lawsuits settled by almost all carriers because of this but they still allow 3rd parties to charge. The only thing that will stop this abuse of the consumer is Congressional or regulatory actions. That is something everyone should pester the FCC, BBB, and your local Congresscritter about.

I work for a corporate controlled auto parts store and we're encouraged to do basically the same thing. Try to pressure people into buying extra things that they neither want nor need.

It is a disgusting practice that I take no part in, so of course I have the worst sales and labor rates outta everybody I work with and am constantly threatened with termination or lower hours.

I take no part either and have been written up twice for my low sales. I'm sorry but I live in a poor community. I'm not going to add insult to injury by trying to get someone to spend more money when they're standing there counting change for the part they need. I WILL NOT do it! I don't like the way it makes me feel and I don't like the way it makes the customer feel. We have what's called a check out challenge. It's usually some cheaply made piece of junk or an expensive fuel treatment . They're put at every computer and register and every customer is to be asked if they'd like to buy it. I don't do it. It's sitting there, if the customer wants it they'll buy it without me bugging them to do so.

Unfortunatly EVERYONE else I work with is happy to kiss the corporate boot and do what they are told, especially since they get paid plenty of money for every repair theyare able to sell and perform. Same here. We have one female employee that is on the customer from the time they walk in the door. You can see the frustration on their faces with her. We have customers that will go somewhere else for their parts if they see her vehicle in the lot. She drives people away but yet the company just loves her because she does exactly what they want us to do.

I won't say which company I work for.

Neither will I. They fire people for the slightest things and while I'm completely unhappy there I have to keep the job as there are no others around here.

This would have to be my top complaint as well. Nothing is more frustrating than to have a problem with an American company and when you call to resolve that problem you can't understand a damn word the person on the other end is saying.

Yes, cable! I've had the same salesman come to my door two days in a row trying to sell me cable t.v.. I only use the company for Internet services. I told him YESTERDAY that unless he could provide me with a better deal on my outrageous monthly charge for Internet, I wasn't interested. He asked me why I didn't want cable t.v. and I told him it was because there is nothing but poison garbage on television! He said, "Oh, I'm a sales rep so I can't do anything for you on your current monthly charges."

TODAY, he came back and tried it again! WTF? REALLY? I ran him of again. I wonder if he'll show up again tomorrow....lol

Oh this soooo pisses me off!

I found out if you have ATT pay as you go go phone you get the Philippines, people who can't understand a word you are saying and do nothing but read screen prompts. I have worked in call centers so I know when they are reading screen prompts. I always tell them to talk to me like Im sitting infront of them and they just go silent. They can't! It is so annoying. I had them one time ask me if New York was a country :O I was shocked!

I don't get mad at them but i do get frustrated because it isn't fair to them or me. They are just doing their job and it isn't their fault their employer is an idiot, they are just supporting themselves or their family. So then I asked the guy to send to me someone in the US or Canada that spoke English because after 45mins i had had enough! Well he transfers me to MEXICO. Again I get someone who barely speaks English, at this point I got so annoyed I politely hung up and figured it out on my own via google.

Now what I found recently is that if you have a contract with ATT you get the US or Canada for customer service. So as a prepaid customer you get second class service, treated like a red headed step child. It's so unfair! You are still a customer, it shouldn't matter if you are contract or not!! Everyone should get the same service. I made a huge complaint about their prepaid customer service when I found out how they do it. It's complete BS. I know i spent more than contract customers some months and I had prepaid for 4 yrs! I was never into phone contracts, didn't believe in them however I recently did sign up for one. They suckered me but in the end it was actually cheaper so I did it....but not without a fuss believe me

Agreed on customer service overseas and the lack of communication. As I have said before I don't fault the people on the other end, I put fault on the company and those who made the dumb decision.

When I bought my router I had to call Cisco customer service, well it was the Philippines. It took almost 3hrs to get my router working because the person on the other end had no clue what she was talking about. She asked me the same stuff over and over and then she wanted remote ACCESS to my computer. I was like heck no! I don't mind someone I know doing it but she couldn't answer basic questions, like i am going to let her have access to my computer remotely and its settings. It should not have taken 3hrs and it had nothing to do with her it was all about the language barrier. I guarantee if we could understand each other it would have gone a lot smoother. I can only imagine how they feel having people getting frustrated at them because they don't speak English. Again I don't blame the agents but the company as a whole and the pin heads in charge.

I have never had those 3rd party services but I know which ones you are talking about and yes those are wrong. Most people don't even notice they are there til later on too....

If I didn't suck at driving? Rear ended at a stop light? Mmmhmm. Sorry you think it's a scam. I cannot begin to tell you how much this one idiot WITHOUT SIMPLE INSURANCE has affected us. Not my fault people are too selfish to care about anyone but themselves. Sounds like you fit the bill. Stay off the roads.

Honestly until you have been in the situation where you have to decide to eat, have a roof over your head or car insurance, believe me you will choose food and a roof over your head. I went without insurance for 6mths one time years ago. I couldn't afford basic insurance. I lived close to work and everything else and I only drove to work or the store when it was raining or I had no other ride or method to get there.

Yes driving without insurance is dangerous and it can cost the other person but even having insurance isn't a guarantee you wont be screwed over.. I was hit pulling into my driveway by an 80yr old man who should NOT have been driving. I fractured my wrist from the air bag and i was going 5mph! He ran a stop sign and hit me in the front corner and guess who got the ticket? ME! I was livid...My insurance totaled my car and it was far from totaled. I had Chevy assess the damage and it was about 1500 and instead of paying that minus my 500 deductible they pay OFF the 4500 I owed on my car and totaled it out. I was so pissed and I fought my insurance for months over this. I paid premium rates and they screwed me so yea insurance companies aren't a favorite of mine and I'd love to stick it to them but in FL now if you don't have insurance your license is suspended unless you turn in your plates. This little accident even with insurance screwed me in more ways than one. It caused me to withdraw from my classes the last 5wks because I commuted 45mins to work and had no transportation. So yea this idiot had insurance and it still wrecked my life for a good year.

Frankly, a disappointing reply. You are the person who hit me. Their story was nothing but sobs. I felt bad for the girl who hit me, but she took food off MY table. I don't care what your story is...I know hard times VERY well, and I am not forgiving to those who decide it's ok to put me and my boys at risk...including you. If you can't aford car insurance, take the bus. I did for a year in college. I had one, ONE car when I was a Sr. Bought for $500 in a flood in LA. Stalled every time I turned right. Still got me to and fro for a year.

Regardless, the argument of the companies sucking and not paying out - I understand but in my experience it has been the opposite and things have been pretty fair considering. Still, I don't like insurance companies, but if it WAS you who hit me you'd be bankrupt right now after I sued your sorry ass for making me do it. If you don't know the true reprecussions of bankruptcy, you are under the age of 30.

Didn't know there was a right reply. What is your problem?

You are the person who hit me. Their story was nothing but sobs. I felt bad for the girl who hit me, but she took food off MY table. I don't care what your story is...

And the person WITH insurance didn't take food off my table? Cause me to withdraw from classes which caused a life long battle with getting aid for school? I don't care if you have insurance or not you can still have your life ruined for an extended period of time because of it. I still have issues with my wrist because of the air bag.

I don't think people should drive without insurance either but I also don't know other peoples situation and what decisions they have to make. I don't judge others in their decisions even if I disagree.

I know hard times VERY well, and I am not forgiving to those who decide it's ok to put me and my boys at risk...including you. If you can't aford car insurance, take the bus. Not every place has a bus system keep that in mind so you are lucky to have had that opportunity. Some people don't. I did not have that opportunity, I took cabs or drove my car if I couldn't get one. I did what i had to do to support myself and I regret no choices I made in doing so.

Now I pay insane rates to have Progressive lol I know they will come through if something happens. It also depends on where you live and who you have for insurance. Who you have is a huge factor when you file a claim.

Sorry Im 32 and could careless about bankruptcy or anyone ever suing me I have zero. Bankruptcy is a scam and for those with money to get away with scamming others. I don't believe in bankruptcy, it's an easy out for many.

Also I am not all sue happy. I don't believe in excess. I have had a couple situations where I could have sued a company and didnt. I wanted what was lost back and that was what I got. I don't see in suing for more.

Anyway it just depends on the person.

There is a right reply. Drive with insurance. A court doesn't want to hear your stories. You will file for bankruptcy one day if you keep that line of thinking. If you can't afford it, don't drive.
