what we the people need to see we are being staved out of our own life by the very persons that work for us

40 yrs of working life no retirement and unemployment running out
the entire system needs overhauled IMHO
why one term politicians are set for life and the vanishing working man is the problem!!!
what happened to monopoly law look around the bigger the corps get the smaller we matter

That's the main issue. The average politician's career now works like this:

1) Start in politics...work your way up to a meaninful position.
2) Do everything your corporate donors ask from you. Make sure their tax incentives stay in place and regulations they don't like get destroyed.
3) Retire from politics.
4) Get hired by the very people who paid you when you worked in politics.

They aren't working for the people anymore (NONE of them!!), they are working for their corporate donors!

And at the same time, they're distracting the "regular folk" with gladiator games of left vs right...when in reality, they're all bought. Works great too, as this thread proves impressively

Because for decades now the media and politicians have trained the population to only focus on dumbed down "short" catch phrases rather than real facts.

Something as complex as the economic crisis can't be analyzed in a single "neo-liberal communists and marxists yadayadayada" sentence. You need to analyze the larger implications, mostly because EVERYTHING is connect to eachother nowadays. So if you claim cutting social security, you also need to look at the economic impact of that rather than just the spending cuts aspect.

I wrote an entire economic analysis of the crisis, backed it up with facts...and that thread is only one page long. This one, offering ZERO real content or analysis is over 5 pages long. People aren't willing (or able) to look at the facts anymore...they prefer getting force-fed opinionated non-factual slogans rather than having to actually use their brains.

People get blatantly manipulated through relgion and partisan bull#. It's about time they woke up, but sadly, I don't see it happen...the amount of ridiculous "communists are destroying the US" or "Sharia law is threatening the US" threads is mind blowing, and also kinda scary given the severety of the situation.

I mean, this thread shows how ALL sides are guilty of causing the current crisis. It's not a "GOP is at fault" or "DEM are at fault" thing...they are ALL guilty of getting us into this situation. The figures confirm that...but somehow people are so stuck in party politics, they can't even look at facts anymore. It's really quite scary

The military personnel has been highjacked when Reagan came to power and hired people from the private industry as "advisors". If you watch his inoguration speech, you notice how one guy tells him to "speed things up"...that person was Robert Rubin, former CEO of Goldmann Sachs! That's when things really turned bad...and we're paying the price for it today. I mean, think about it...a guy having the power to tell the PRESIDENT to "speed things up". Warning bells should have gone off, but they didn't.

The main reason the military exists is to have people using all those toys the defence lobbyists make politicians buy. There's no "fight against evil", it's just a catch phrase to get the people to accept the fact that politicians throw TRILLIONS of dollars at the defence contractors.

War isn't a necessary evil anymore, it's a way for defence contractors to make a profit...and they do that by paying politicians. How else do you think the US ended up in Iraq? WMDs? Really?

It would be almost comical how they mislead the public, but sadly it's costing thousdands of lives...and is not only wrecking the budget, but also the economy because now the government doesn't havet he funds to address the economic crisis properly.

They invaded Iraq to make sure they get their 6.27% of total oil imports from there in the future...the US is getting most of its oil from Canada.
