Thank you Mr. Norway Massacre-ist _____ (fill in the blank with your choice of expletive).

the Federation of German Criminal Police (BDK), suggested that an alarm button be set up for the internet so that web users could report extremist content or threats quickly. It is one of a growing number of calls for greater scrutiny of web-based extremism.

“People who discover right-wing radical content, Islamist ideas or indications of a mass murder have to be able to freeze the page and transmit (the information) to an emergency centre,” he said.

The emergency centre would need to be “staffed around the clock by specially trained police, sociologists or psychologists,” he said.

The Norwegian killer, Jansen pointed out, had spread his ideology on the internet via Facebook and other sites.

“Something was concocted there that many people on the internet were aware of.”

The ground work to implement such a thing has already been implemented. All that it is needed now is modify the verbiage and underlying code and with a few strokes on the keyboard, change a little code here and there, redirect to the desired data center and wah-lah, alarm button activated.

Ever see the Like and +1 buttons? There you go, that is the alarm button.

Remember, if you feel very strongly about something, you are an extremist! Even clicking one too many similar "Like" buttons may get you singled out...

This just rubs me in a way so-very-unpleasant... We all must now be expected to be mediocre and stand up for nothing. Just be so-so and go with flow.

They can't expect the internet society to use a 'button' properly, do they?

I mean, they really don't know the internet if they do.

great idea....because its useless, you could send an email (or anonymous message) to the police/authorities...all of them have this feature...and now they think that people will do it becuase if they only need to install a FF-plugin to have a big button and dont have to go to the website anymore...if they think thats enough and makes them chill i am fine with it =)

I doubt they care if it is used properly. Just imagine a website flagged x amount of times...then it can be shutdown until further review by the authorities. At their leisure, of course.

It is just another excuse available to them to use as a means of control.

Its nonsense. If they block the interet dangerous people will sprout their train of thought through other means, as they did before. You dont know who will take a gun and go on a rampage until they do.

If a button like this were to ever exist it would be overused and abused.
Censorship of the internet is not needed, its the alst free frontier.

I can totally see 4chan having fun with this and reporting innocent people just for the sake of amusement. Sad but thats how things go, but on the other hand, it would also force them to take away the report button or face a crowd of very angry people.

That's absolutely 100% correct and you'd think it would be common sense, wouldn't you? Yet the Eurocrats cannot and will not see it, because they are blinded by political correctness. It's rooted in a faulty semiotic understanding of the relationships among words/symbols, thought, and action. They believe that by manipulating the shallower level of words/symbols, they can directly control the two deeper levels of thought and action, but it just ain't so. Insted, their clumsy actions bring about the exact opposite of what they intend.
