explosion/earthquake warley west mids uk

If you don't see any smoke then most likely it was nothing really.

Could be just gas venting / popping or electric arcing or breakers going those can make a huge bang sometimes or perhaps something falling from a crane, a large heavy load or something hitting the ground.

Im waiting for the 6pm local news. If there is nothing on there then it was something that was nothing.

But got to say im pretty knackered trying to find out!

i know some cops in the west mids, further down than you kinda bedford-ish area but i will get on them 2morrow n see if they heard anything through the grape vine.

OP i live in blackheath just 2 miles from oldbur and never heard anything.
keep us updated and i will also research myself

A bus collision or the bus/car exploding would not be enough for the seismographs to show such a large "quake" like spike. The last time this happened, it was in Utah where those miners were buried inside the mine. It registered around a 4.3 if i recall correctly. So whatever blew up, that was picked up by the seismographs had to be big. The image posted on page 3 shows the spike going through 3 of the previous lines, and touching a fourth line. So that had to be a massive explosion. Earthquake? Not likely. The spike would be a lot more constant. Something big blew up...question is what.

It seemed a big deal at the time

It certainly got everybody out of the houses and worried!

But could I find out anything?

Could i heck!

I even went to the trouble of walking around Oldbury (2 miles from where I was) and asked everyone who just shrugged and were a clueless as me!

I trawled twitter/facebook, googled every conotation there was, local news, and nothing!

Its a mystery im afraid.

I reckon a transformer blew, but that does not account for the police etc.

I live just down the road on lion farm.

The bang came from birchley so i reckon it was just a transformer on birchley island sub power station..

I live right next to lion farm and although i had a 5-6hr power outage i never heard a bang or felt any seismic activity.
Dont know if this a coincidence or not but around the 3.30pm time i saw a few powercompany vans park around the corner then 10 mins later the power was back on. I think there are 2 stories here being mixed together but either way not much of a story.
Ps nice to hear from the locals, nothing ats worthy happens around here lol. Apart from dudley dorito sightings.
