You info/link make absolutely no sense to me, so (perhaps foolishly) I will take your word for it. Quick question, your saying this quake is of no significance?

The link is to a database search form
The data is a listing of earthquakes of 5.9+ in the region since 1973 (yes, the formatting makes it hard to read).

Since the earthquake occurred in the middle of the Sea of Cortez and a 5.9 is really quite mild, yes, I would say it is of no significance.

Not for you but from my geomagnetic storm affecting earthquakes end I post info for members what have similar interest ..
I wrote last months for connection of geomagnetic storm end earthquakes but you all says the opposite ..

Please all watch movies last 7-10 days before Japan hit catastrophic earthquake, so "Extreme" geomagnetic storm end pressure what hit Earth somewhere must respond .. (25 h - 60 h from Sun to Earth, depending on the speed )
www2.nict.go.jp...

Something else effect too and I want my attention on that ..

New Scientific Study Shows Solar Activity Affects Human Physical and Mental State

The Earth's magnetic field is the conduit which facilitates charged particles from the Sun to human disturbance. It is this very same conduit which steers Earth's natural earth changing events such as climate, weather, earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes etc.

This study suggests humans may be genetically pre-disposed to the influence by geomagnetic flux as it relates to the Earth's magnetic field and charged particles such as solar flares, coronal mass ejections, gamma rays, and galactic cosmic rays.

www.truthwinds.com...

End I expect geomagnetic storm more of present in next hours-days ..

Here is last 3 hours ..

Here you can see geomagnetic storm start at 28 Jul ..

CME's what appear in last days, they by here in next hours-days depending on the speed .. (25 h - 60 h form Sun to Earth)

I'm with Phage on this one. A 5.9 is not at all unexpected for the area, I am only surprised it didn't happen sooner. There have been clusters of quakes all over the Gulf of California (don't let the name fool you, it is in Mexico), the most recent at the very Northern end.

Having said that, I don't think it should be dismissed, but viewed in relation to all the other quakes happening along the same line up to the North. I don't see this area as isolated, but directly linked to the line of quakes through California and up the West Coast...this goes with my theory that the Cascadian Subduction Zone does not end in Northern California, but continues down through the Gulf of Mexico.

This whole area is normally a bit active...lately the lines have been clearly drawn on the map and quite interesting. see map here

So while I find this quake interesting, it certainly isn't alarming.

Long Valley Caldera

would this be in the same area?

"In May of 1980, a strong earthquake swarm that included four Richter magnitude 6 earthquakes struck the southern margin of Long Valley Caldera associated with a 10 inch (25-cm), dome-shaped uplift of the caldera floor. These events marked the onset of the latest period of caldera unrest that continues to this day"
