Are you watching what's happening? Can you believe it? You want to think it is some sort of conspiracy - these politicians could not really be at such odds against each other with no apparent middle ground. So if it is not some sort of conspiracy to cause the current recession to go into a 1929 style big depression, what is going on? We speculate that one of the weaknesses of a democracy [though we live technically in a republic] is that a group of radicals [ie. The Tea Party][and yes they are economically radical] in bad times can play on peoples fears and misunderstanding of events and stir up radical opposition to government and cause a collapse of that government so as to achieve their true objective [still unknown]. We assume they borrow the words tea party from the Boston Tea Party which was a prelude to the American Revolution of 1776. But those real patriots who fought for this country would role over in their graves before they saw their country wrecked by a group of money counters who can't see the reality of their destructive will. [or don't want to see it].
It is like this: In bad economic times with the government being by far the largest employer in the USA [good or bad this is the way it is] and so the Tea Party wants to destroy the government! And they might succeed but if they do the revolution you will see will be very-ugly, it will make the original American revolution look like a Tea Party! [pun intended].

come now from the party whose credo is never let a good crisis goto waste.

AlienView,

You struck a chord there.

I simply cannot understand how the current leadership cannot find a way to do some win/win compromising. Aren't these folks supposed to be our best and brightest?

Give me 95% or more of any sort of everyday situation and regardless of one being left-wing, right-wing or centrist I'd bet the two of us could meet halfway and do so in a friendly fashion.

So why the hell can't our politicians do the same?

It does almost seem scripted, or at the very least intentional.

Because what you are seeing is scripted.

We are watching a play..

The ending could be a tragic. Don't even envision a fairy-tale ending.. Either way we loose.

The country is run by the wealthiest families and major corporations, their goal is to control every thing but themselves.

Your right, they would be, if they saw how tax payer money was used to bail out banks, and companies.

A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government.
Thomas Jefferson

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.
Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

Couldn't agree more man, the political parties we have today are a joke, they are just a smoke screen to blind the people. It's really the People-who-aren't-brainwashed-By-Mainstream-Media(which isn't very many)- VS The Pirates of wall street, and corporate overlords.

Entitlements... yeah, that's it.

Tell me, exactly, why AREN'T people entitled to Social Security and Medicare? THEY PAID INTO IT. It's THEIR money.

Please, stop with this entitlement crap. Unless the government wants to give back all the money they have stolen from people's paychecks for 40 years (SS + Medicare) then people deserve their SS and Medicare. Or do you support stealing money from American citizens? Because that's what refusing SS and Medicare would be.

The government is in this problem because of overspending on the Military, back-room deals with corporate America, and the destruction of the free market. They have crafted this country's economy, they are in control of the boom and bust cycle. Every bust just gets worse and worse, because it's all basically fake.

The government needs to get out of the economy, the fed needs to go, and people need to start working again. Cut 75% of the government overnight, and military spending. Problem solved.

Basically both parties work together and are engaging in theater to avoid finding a solution for now.

They know Greece style austerity will be a tough sell, so they have to make it look like it was their only solution they could get passed.

I think instead of cutting social security and other benefits, we can cut the defense budget and end the war on terror, close all bases around the world, and cut foreign aid. Revenue should be raised by increasing tariffs, not increasing income taxes that the elite just dodge anyway. Tariffs will hit them since they are all invested in job exporting companies, and will encourage that investment to be made in the US again.

We been studying and following conspiracies for a long, long time and believe there is at least some truth in many conspiracy theories. BUT there is something different in what is going on right now. Either we are being taken by some super-conspiracy that will change the entire world [probably for the worst] OR there is a real battle going on within the government [what is obvious and apparent]. And if that is the case the disaster [economic and otherwise]
that will follow is a very real possibility. The Civil War of the 1860s was an ugly and bloody mess, we could do without another one now.

You know what I think they should do; they should sue the whole BUSH administration, all the lobbyists for military expenditure giants who sell war to the politicians to reduce some of the debt(but practically speaking that would NEVER happen. It's a shame that the rich get richer by putting all their problems on normal living people in society backs. Lets stand up and be heard man .

Man, all you guys crack me up. The Tea Party is a hijacked nutjob outfit who wants to ride Dr. Paul's coat tails of yesteryear. The fact that they don't want us to print more money it right. The left blames the Tea Party for bringing us back to the 20's yet... we didn't keep printing money in the 20's to pay our debts. On the other hand, so called "entitlements" had nothing to do with it either.

Bottom line (and one more way for "them" to play you yokels against each other):

Printing Money Is Bad. There Is No Historical Economical Model Based On This That Has Been Succesful. Ever.

So Called "Entitlement" Programs Pay For Many Things You Don't Think About. ANY FORM OF GOVERNMENT Is Socialist. That's OK. It Is The Next Evolutionary Step In Society.

That said... can't you see, even for a second, that these are things that are thrown around to make the two sides hate each other? I keep hearing you guys on this site claim to not fall for the left-right gimmick yet... virtually without exception, you all do.

And somehow I thought the motto here was "Deny Ignorance'

Nice try to pin the crap going on in this country on the Teaparty. I'll let you know when those 'green shoots' are really taking off.

Oh yeah, I'll also let you know when I get a check from my corporate masters. Sorry. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. Well... maybe you should...

the Tea Party crowd are mostly the baby Boomers (most gullible, brainwashed generation ever).

Imagine a game of musical chairs, all those that have chairs are saying "no more music, you guys (without chairs) should worked harder at getting a chair. We want the music to stop right now, pack up the radio, no more music"..obviously because they have the chairs..

my little tea party analogy.. oh btw, i agree with you about the oil and farm subsities. also, all the foreign aid and immigrating

The Tea Party are not the fear-mongers. The Tea Party is ready to let the country reset naturally to get rid of all the potential "bubbles" that are looming as catastrophes. The Tea Party is ready to embrace a "free market" where values are not falsely inflated. The Tea Party is ready to get the government's hands out of everything, and let the people be responsible for the outcomes.

All the fear-mongering is coming from Fortune 500 companies, Obama, Liberals, and the Credit Rating agencies. They are the ones threatening the common people, and you have fallen victim to it. You are listening to all of the doom and gloom from the parties that are responsible for putting us into this fiasco.

Will times be hard? YES. Will fixing this economy require sacrifice? YES.

Is the Tea Party advertising this doom? NO! It is the Obama administration threatening to cut off checks, and the S&P threatening to lower the credit rating, and the big corporations pouring money into the Liberal agenda to keep propping up a doomed system. That is where the fear-mongering is coming from.

The Tea Party and the Conservatives just want the government's hands out of our pockets, and we want the economy to self-adjust to where it belongs, and we are willing to take personal responsibility for the hard times to get us out the other side and back to a real recovery and some real prosperity instead of the fake one.

Just because you post something doesn't make it true.
When the economy tanked in 2008, it was Bushs' fault. And he had a senate and a house controlled by the democrats.
Here it is, 2011, a democrat senate, a democrat president, and a GOP controlled house.

And it's the Tea Partys' fault?

We have a senate and administration who treats the government credit card like monopoly money, doesn't want to make realistic or substantial (aka, ACTUAL) cuts out of their budget, and wants to raise the national credit limit another 20% so they can be sure they won't have to try to raise the credit limit again before 2013, post election.

Additionally, they hold your social security and medicaid for grandma and grandpa hostage because they don't want to agree to STOP SPENDING 1,600,000,000,000 $ more then they take in every year. Do you realise even if they did a "cut 5T over 10 years" plan, that still means we're spending 1.2T more then they take in, PER YEAR, SANS INFLATION!

you farking nuts? If I were to max out a credit card I freaking SHRED IT, STOP SPENDING, AND PAY IT OFF! That means no vacation, no filet mignon, and I get to eat kraft mac and cheese for awhile if I have to!

The (elected) members of tea party damn well better stick to their guns, stick to what they promised to do, and GET THIS DAMN ADMINISTRATION TO STOP RUNNING US OFF A DAMN CLIFF!

By blaming one side, you're just as radical/partisan, therefore just as much of the problem. How is it so many ATS'ers have access to all the information they need to wake up, and stay asleep dreaming the partisan dream (nightmare)...
