Peak oil is not a myth, it's a mathematical fact. Infinite use of a finite resource inevitably means that said resource will run out.

That said, there's another peak oil that deserves more attention than it gets: peak oil demand.

This is completely right . Americans think that we can keep on having unlimited growth with no repercussions. Peak oil is no myth it is the truth and is fact. A good movie to watch is the movie collapse. It was made a couple years ago and explains this peak oil very clearly. Saudi Arabia is said to have around 25% of the nations oil reserves on the land and yet they have started going off shore to drill. Like already stated this is stupid because it's not cost effective. Most of the countries are in this boat. I think we are way past our peak.

The price of gas will shoot way up like it is not and will go down and up often. Like it has been. But once demand slows down the price will sky rocket where we can't afford to buy oil let alone use it for everyday items like plastics, tires , pesticides for farming etc. every single thing we touch a day has to use oil to be produced or transported. So when we can afford oil not even the mail will get delivered and food is not going to be brought to your local stores. Not looking good for USA that's all I have to say.

A replenished well would have refilled due to seepage perhaps, but it's safe to say that oil doesn't magically grow from rock or soil. Even if we had another 100 years from the seepage, what then? Obviously oil isn't replenished quickly (if at all on human time scales) because if it was the wells wouldn't run dry...

It's inescapable. We know one thing for sure. Natural oil production can not sustain our current usage, let alone future demand which is rapidly expanding.

It's not a myth, aboitic oil or not, it doesn't matter, the world will reach peak oil anyway. And the peak is not the real problem, the demand is the problem, we use way to much oil. The only way is to cut demand and this means much less cars, especially in the US. Low gas prices has created a too high oil dependency for the US.
