The hunt by GTA police for killer and rapist Alexander Winston Sylvester began 30 years ago, at a time when there were no computerized police data banks or DNA testing. (Greater Toronto Area)

The DNA lay in a police fridge near Toronto for years until finally its match turned up in Louisiana.

It's extraordinary how much science has progressed in the past few years, and no surprise to me that such shows as CSI became popular as a result. The story also shows the positive side of international cooperation between police forces during a time when people everywhere are feeling the loss of their privacy and rights.

".. a 14-year-old girl was dragged into bushes and raped in Mississauga. That victim, now 44, told police she’d be willing to testify in court. So have three women — all of whom are now seniors — who were sexually assaulted at gunpoint in their homes in the Huntingwood Ave. and Brimley Rd. area of Scarborough in June 1993."

This is one story that ends well for the victims and gives hope to others who are still waiting for a positive outcome to cases whose trails have gone cold. Please read the story and comment.
