Israel's Shin Bet Security Service is warning the rise of extremism on the far right in Israel could lead to the assassination of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, to stop his plan to withdraw Jewish settlements from Gaza.

Israel's minister for internal security has issued a warning that Jewish extremists are again planning to attack mosques in the hopes of igniting a war and halt any peace process.

Extremism and fundamentalism on both sides may well lead to all out war within Israel. Both sides of this dispute claim that their right to this land is God-given. Neither side seems willing to budge.

Arial Sharon is trying to find a moderate position, which is out of character for him, that will appease both sides of this dispute. However the extremists are not willing to compromise.

Sharon's government, with some gentle persuasion from the US government, is making an effort to settle this centuries old conflict. If the War on Terror is to be won, settling this conflict will be an integral part of it.
