A home-grown terrorist set off an explosion that ripped open buildings in the heart of Norway's government Friday, then went to a summer camp dressed as a police officer and gunned down youths as they ran and even swam for their lives, police said.

The attacks killed at least 16 people in this peaceful nation's worst violence since World War II.

That he acted alone is hard to swallow, not impossible but rare certainly. The latest ive seen is 27 dead.. i don't know about the injured. I imagine it will take a week or so before the authorities figure things out. No doubt the ruling Labour Party was the target of the attacks. Seems Norway isn;t as all quiet as it seems. There is hate boiling underneath somewhere. Today it just boiled over :

My thinking is that if this proves true, it will only justify the DHS in the US stating in recent days that domestic terrorism is now the biggest threat to security and that Caucasians are the new terrorist threat.

And to follow the pattern of the 'patsy', my guess is that he'll be found dead soon. Maybe conveniently after a written confession of course. Just a guess.

They are already calling it 'Norway's 9/11. Convenient way to bring up old fears and instill new ones.

I don't buy it for one minute. Something sounds fishy...a little to lone gunman/19 Saudis hijacking airplanes to me..there is a grassy knoll in this and before long it'll come out.

You know, as much as Europeans try to say us Americans are crazy and gun-crazy, it seems their youth have some serious issues. As of late it seems the younger generations of Europeans have a thing for killing innocents.

Now I am not stereotyping, we have our own share of problems on this side of the pond, but it seems to be escalating in those Western European Progressive nations.

Regardless, the idea that a 32 year old could act alone and cause that kind of damage is terrifying. I wonder what they will say he used in his bombs. Or if he had military experience.

Whats the death toll up to now? 18? That's horrible.

To be honest if this comes about as true Neo-Fascist and Neo-Socialist groups have been on the rise in Europe, including Scandinavia so it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Obviously, the attacker will just be written off as a run-of-the-mill psycho. The fact that anyone can set bombs off and gun people down will not sink in, because to many here, terrorism is (c) and (tm) of muslims.

My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

Police say at least 80 people were killed in a shooting spree at the youth camp of Norway's Labor Party.

Police director Oystein Maeland told reporters early Saturday they had discovered many more victims after initially reporting the death toll at 10.

well i have heard the term domestic terrorist used whilst watching snippets here and there during the day, i think this is what they will promote rather than a lone nut. i do not think they will say lone nut case closed. i think in the coming days there will be lots of discussion about domestic terrorists, which they will point out could be anyone, and then give a list of things people should look out for..... to identify a domestic terrorist etc. you know, protests, into conspiracy theories etc etc

but i could be wrong.
