I agree, if someone's voting is so easily swayed by a flag, there's something loose in their brain-holder. However, given what I know of propaganda techniques, I wouldn't doubt if mushy-headed people had exactly this reaction.

The irony being most American flags are made in China.

I'd be curious on the methodology of this study. 'Cause, I'm a socialist, and i live in hairy hippy liberal central, and the fourth of July lasts three days here. I'd wager pretty much every kid in the US has celebrated the 4th. Saying this leads to Republican voting would seem, at the surface, to simply be a FOX news attempt to bolster waning GOP support; either an attempt to say there are tons more Republican voters than the polls reflect, or that anyone who's not voting Republican is some woods-dwelling America-hating hermit who never shot a bottle rocket as a kid.

I don't believe the study myself.
I think it was FOX news doing what they do best by trying to paint people who do not carry a flag on their person as a terrorist threat to the country. Slight exaggeration only. Remember the flag pin issue? Unbelievable.

I know. Pushing bombs and rockets too.

I think this translates to "always support war and our space program."

Who doesn't think that?

Just in case there was a single American hidden in a cave somewhere buried for hundreds of years who didn't know the words or the tune right?

Or is you posting the anthem an attempt to ignite patriotic feelings over common sense?

from the wiki.

In the U.S., battles such as the Battle of New Orleans and the earlier successful defense of Baltimore (which inspired the lyrics of the U.S. national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner") produced a sense of euphoria over a "second war of independence" against Britain. It ushered in an "Era of Good Feelings" in which the partisan animosity that had once verged on treason practically vanished. Canada also emerged from the war with a heightened sense of national feeling and solidarity.

The difference between America in 1812 and America now is that back then the dictator-driven Corporation of America hadn't yet come into full swing.

Who the hell cares who you vote for - as long as they display the American flag a few million times to stir up the patriotism then they must be right!

Britain is probably not a good example... They are far more open than us..... Less prudish about the things that so many Americans seem to find so controversial.

Britain, not prudish? They are so uptight that you'd need a tractor to pull a pin out of their ass. They have conceded their society to muslim militants, their legal system to include sharia, and their taxation system is so repressive that you need a license to view a TV in their home. And their nonchalance is not because of sophistication - it is because of resignation to their demise.

So you pledge your allegiance to a piece of material?

Tell you what, I pledge allegiance to toilet paper. All Hail the Great Toilet Paper....hereby known as The Almighty Dunny-Wipes.....

Bloody ridiculous.

Your own life, value system, and living conditions are so miserable that your insane jealousy makes you strike out at the US. You're as predictable as sunrise. Or sunset, in your case.

Of course you don't wave your flag. Why would you?

Your post is proof of your ignorance of other countries and their ways and people. Give me the Brits anyday over an uptight overly-patriotic ignorant American.

That's called Corruption PERCEPTIONS Index. Key word being "Perceptions". Pay enough money to someone or present enough of a threat and you can influence anyones perceptions can you not?

Oh and from the same Wiki page you linked to:

Measuring corruption statistically is difficult if not impossible due to the illicit nature of the transaction and imprecise definitions of corruption.

Basically saying the statistics are worthless.

Your continued references to worship and God are now an attempt at the same propaganda technique as used in the OPs cited article.

Some of us have finally woken up to the fact that our flag has a completely different meaning to the rest of the world. And do you know what? we are ashamed. Our leaders are war mongers, thieves, corrupt and have every intention of taking us to Hell. I would fight for my flag, but I would not fight for any last one of them. I would fight to restore it's meaning of truth and justice. Again, you think it's an unhealthy relationship, and again, you then do not understand what it means to the average American citizen.

Nope, just pointing out a fact - and they weren't 'continued references', I happened to say it twice, maybe thrice in this thread out of the multiple posts I have made.

Some of us have finally woken up to the fact that our flag has a completely different meaning to the rest of the world. And do you know what? we are ashamed. Mate, stop saying we don't understand. We do - we have the 'meaning' shoved in our collective faces day in and day out. I dare say there isn't a person alive on the planet today that couldn't say what the American flag is supposed to mean to the American people - you advertise it like it's a bloody car commercial.

Look whats happening in this thread for instance - a few points have been made that offend the American sense of patriotism, so what do the Americans do? Instead of perhaps discussing the points like intelligent people they immediately band together, call those posters "Anti-American" then just for good measure throw in a few patriotic posts about pledging alligiance and a video of the American national anthem. If this is not proof positive of the indoctrination of the American people then I don't know what is.

You talk of wanting to fight back against the corrupt system - and talk is all it's going to be as long as you have indoctrinated robots screaming and drowning out any negative yet valid points about America.

Good bloody luck to you is all I can say.

I'm American and I don't give a frak about our flag. If I had one I'd gladly burn it but why should I pay China to make me a American flag?

Partial lyric from Rush - Territorites

"Better the pride that resides
In a citizen of the world
Than the pride that divides
When a colorful rag is unfurled"

Propaganda works in many ways and the flag is one of them. The only thing I feel when I see the flag, someone wearing a pin or whatever, is sickness. It doesn't stand for anything good IMO, as this country is so frakked up it's insane.

You can screw up anyones head with flag waving and patriotism and all that crap. Flag waving does nothing for me and patriotism went out a long time ago as I realize my country hates me and will do everything it can to bring me to my knees.

I'd like to live in the country I was taught we have. Too bad that country doesn't exist. I won't pledge to that damned flag as it means nothing except lies.

Bravo mate, well said.

There's hope for America yet it seems, your country needs more people like you to help initiate REAL change - not just change they get you to believe in by lying to you with a smile on their face and an American flag behind them.

It hurts me to admit that you're right. They must be putting something in the water to dumb us down as it's a fact that we Brits have lost the will to fight and stand up for ourselves. We just seem resigned to our fate. Years ago we fought against the poll tax, the Toxteth, Brixton riots etc. The brave miners standing up to Maggie... Now we simply roll over and capitulate. Whatever happened to us?
