About 7,423 out of 9,244 respondents to a Press TV poll believe “ending war in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya and reducing military spending” is the best way for the US to reduce its 14-trillion-dollar debt.

A total of eight percent said the best resolution was for the US to default on its debt, and 2.9 percent of the respondents believe Washington could get loans from foreign banks or governments to bailout its economy.

I voted in this poll also, and I voted for ending the wars and high defence budget. What do you guys think? Why is Washington putting so much attention on cutting aid to teachers, women and children, or high taxes, rather than the wars and the insane defence budget?

Maybe ATS should conduct a similar poll and see what ATS viewers and members think is the best solution.

Vast majority of PressTV viewers believe ending the wars and cutting defence budget will help, but will that be the case for ATS also?

That defense budget is a huge part of how we got into this mess. So yes, I agree.

We should never have been in those wars to begin with. We shouldn't be in any new ones.

How any American can sit still while Americans suffer and our country teeters on collapse so that we can meddle in other countries, is a big indicator for how ignorant & complacent most Americans are.

Of cause ending wars will reduce the US debt and be good not only for the americans and american economy, but it would also be good for the rest of the Allied countries economies too. As we wouldnt have to follow america into another senceless and stupid war.
But these wars will never stop, as the few men that are making money from these wars dont want them to stop.

Sadly because War and Oil are our biggest industries, and cutting defense spending will reduce our countries production.. effectivley gutting our biggest employer and most profitable corporations.

I still say cut it all but it wouldn't be pretty. War's what we do .. it got us out of the 2003 recession, and a big enough one would get us out of our current depression.

99% of ats would say the wars are the first thing that should be cut from spending... The other 1% would say cut all programs keep the war, and watch everything crumble to start a new tax free economy without government restrictions

End the wars, close overseas bases, spend money on American infrastructure before giving foriegn aid.

Repairing public infrastructure and schools keeps that money in our economy and that is the best possible stimulus. Its paid out in contracts to companies to do the work. They get taxed. The workers of those companies get paid and taxed. They buy goods which are taxed. Good for the people and the government.

Then we have drivable roads and bridges, sewage treatment facilities, renewable energy sources, research and development of new ideas and technologies. That only if we the people and our elected representatives decide to make America good again.

The Second World War is what turned the United States into an economic...and then political...powerhouse.

If not for America's on-going involvement in military conflicts (because, due the secret nature of weapons design and production, they cannot outsource a lot of the work) America would be in a lot bigger economic trouble than it is today. The U.S. military machine produces huge numbers of jobs, directly and indirectly.

I am not sure why people can't see this clearly, but the real problem with the U.S. economy is not Government spending (whether for the military, infrastructure projects, bureaucratic staffing, etc.)...it is the rampant outsourcing of American manufacturing (and service) jobs to various countries around the world (principally China).

As soon as the American Government steps back from the abyss of "Free Trade" with countries who do not enforce a level playing field (labour laws, environmental laws, IP protection, currency manipulation, etc.) then jobs will return to America...people and companies will be able to begin paying taxes again...expenditures on benefits programs like Unemployment Insurance will drop off...and deficits will disappear!

Get America back to work! Bring American jobs back home! The rest is easy.
