Wow! I have seen a lot of soho pictures but none as dramatic as this! I have no idea what that could be. It seems reallly strange. I will have to keep checking back to see if anyone has any ideas.

The before and after photos are good, just this one messed up. I am thinking flare. Wonder if it is a bad one, or just caught the camera head on

Thats a direct hit from a CME. Just a very small one though. We tend to see an issue when the whole image is lit or 90-95% of the image.

A little Radio and phone interference in a couple days. Check in at space weather and get the report.

Sometimes it may just be the simplest solution. Don't assume SOHO equipment works perfectly 100% of the time. A simple momentary misalignment with the disc in the center of the images would likely cause a pic like this.
