To all ATS members: What is wrong with our world today?

Hello all,

This is my first thread post, so go easy on me. I've been a lurker on the site for years, and seen many mixed ideas and emotions run through here on all kinds of topics. Each thread has always revolved around one specific issue, and everyone states why they do or do not agree with it. What I am curious to see is everyones opinion on our global problems in general...what is the ATS concensus? I hope by this post to get a better feel on where our arguements truely stand. Is the majority belief that its just bad politics? Are dimishing resources fueling our constant wars? Is a global elite running us into the ground? Or does god just not like us at the moment? I'm open and wish to hear all opinions, but please keep it civil. The idea here is not to incite arguments, but rather to get a feel for what everyone truely believes. With that said, bashers need not respond. For some I'm sure it will be difficult enough just responding to begin with...we don't need to make anyone feel unwelcomed.

If we knew we could fix it.
Hard to blame human nature.
That is like pointing a finger at ourselves.
We are looking for others causes...other places to point.

What's wrong with the world today is unfettered, unmitigated greed. Greed to the point where we actually start becoming detrimental to our survival as a species.

Read the bible. Its pretty obvious. God tells you what has and will happen. People who deny this fact are to blind and full of themselves to see anything.

The United States and it's imperialism and hypocrisy.

Corporations and the media holding too much power and infuence.

People's general apathy and ignorance

IMO rampant fear and too many control freaks. Corporatism and Cronies, equalling mass corruption.
Not a good combination.

What makes it so bad is that for years people have even made it seem like it was OK, maybe even a good thing, to be a control freak.

Yeah, talk talk talk talk talk.
We need more 'to each his own' 'we're all in this together' and less 'every man for himself' and 'survival of the fittest'

Greed and fear of progress is what's wrong with this world.

I think you should be asking: What is NOT wrong with the world today?

It will be a much shorter list.

Corporations dictating foreign policy.

Corrupt politicians, bankers, law enforcement.

Passive attitudes of the people.

Unfettered political correctness and liberalism. Political correctness is a form of thought control which prevents even talking about serious issues, much less addressing them.
Liberalism aka progressivism aka socialism is a huge part of the problem. Whatever happened to Americans taking care of themselves and their own? The nanny state will be the death of our nation and our world.

People are REAL passive. Too passive to me, like something is wrong with them.
I keep looking around, and all I see is people worried about their kids' dance recitals. The govt's put those same kids in debt that is unbelievable and they haven't even started work yet.

I'm shell shocked. Especially today, I admit it. I know many more people worried about Casey Anthony than the TSA or the threat to social security checks not getting paid. It just blows my mind.

Maybe it IS me. Maybe my priorities are wrong. Maybe it's just that MY KID can't afford dance classes anymore. I dunno.

The problem is fundamentally HUMANS

the details are important ONLY in effort to correct the humans - but you'll never get to them all - and new ones are being born and brainwashed pretty steadily

as long as there are people, the world problems will continue

as they have always been, they will always be

we'll just relabel the details

We rely on systems, we alter them on our way, and if they don't work anymore we change the system.
What stays the same is the human mind which causes the problems, who invented the political en economical systems, the religions and its gods.
We have created this world we live in, therefore we are the world, and the world is a mirror of our inner state.
Total in disorder.

I don't know about today. But yesterday I went to Dairy Queen and ordered the family dinner. We recieved your food and started to pull off, I had to make a sudden stop and proceed to enter the establishment and inform them that they forgot to add my flamethrower meal

What is wrong when our youth working class(all young females at this establishment) cannot even read a monitor and count to four?

We are going downhill in quality.............fast

Was gonna say money, but more accurately the love(lust) for money I reckon. I also think discrimination, both conscious and sub-conscious play a part. The Chompsky expression always comes to mind, 'profits before people.'

Greed, plain and simple greed. Also, a since of entitlement, a feeling of superiority, a loss of compassion and empathy.

And the ability to always find "someone" else or "something" else to blame besides ourselves.

I believe the problem is the selfish need to own and control the unattainable! I know selfishness is hard to beat but it can be done if we want to be happy, become one with the world, with each other, to live beyond selfishness. Selfishness is a symptom of a disease, this disease is possessive materialism, this disease destroys lives, families, marriages, the environment and virtually anything it touches because attaining wealth and power is more important then any of these things. When we look at this type of behavior from outside the box we know that money and power is not more important then any one of these things yet if you turn on a TV and watch what will we see. We see a worship of fortune, fame and power but what we don't see is any praise or worship of those that are selfless, caring, self sacrificing or any of the things we know in our hearts to be right. We learn that the nice people finish last and there's absolutly no justice, just take a Look at the OJ or casey anthony trials, This is a demoralization or an idealogical subversion and it has given us the world we now live in. There are no real patriots in this world because we have been brainwashed but all hope is not lost cause the first step in fixing ourselves is realizing we have been manipulated since we were babies. That we have been molded into materialistic and possessive animal whores worse then any other species on the planet and many of us are willing to destroy lives, livelyhoods, environment, species, humanity and whatever gets in the way or our need to possess and control! We are all sick and just like any other type of addiction, once we start to understand this we can admit we are powerless over this, meet with others like ourselves and get help. Though I realize many of you will probably be in partial or total denial. If people don't realize whats happening to them our world will continue to decay into an inevitable wasteland of lies, deception, slavery & selfishness where we are totally devoid of any empathy cause we delude ourselves into believing that others are responsible for why we are living in a sespool!
We need to end this craziness now! we can't wait anymore! Capitalism is wasteful, corrupt and unfair, the longer it goes on the less resources we have to transition to a sustainable Resource Based Economy!
We are living with a system designed for infinate growth, which is totally unsustainable! The only reasons why people don’t want to give up on capitalism is they think that a RBE is just a form of communism but that is a misconception because communism is a form of government and not a economic system! We can all be free, happy and have a democratic society in a RBE. Most people have a problem because there is no money, ownership and only one class of people where all are equal! Many people think they deserve better for whatever reason and though there is alot less luxuries we need to decide now if we want to spend all our resources until there gone and have nothing left to transition to a sustainable economy. We can whipe out poverty, greed and corruption with this system but we have to give up our materialistic ideaologies! We need to decide who we are, Are we human beings or just animals looking to have our pleasure here and now till it’s gone and then fight over the scraps? The choice is ours, will we choose selfish materialism for fewer and fewer of us or sustainability for all man kind?
