The great thing about threads like this is how they bring people together.

As for the article, why is it that the US is the only nation on the planet that should be expected to follow the opinion of people in other countries? If this article were to state what American opinions were on the state of any other country on this planet it would be used as evidence that the US is the great satan, but since it's the other way around it's perfectly fine. I call shenanigans and several other things that I'm sure would set the profanity censors off.

Can you imagine an war to liberate America from the Republicans?

ATS is suppose to be about "Denying Ignorance", instead you seem to be wrapped up in your own like it's a blanket!

Take the Republicans out of the picture...Is America better off with just Democrats in power? We tried that just 3 years ago, remember? They took a huge deficient under Bush and quadrupled it. The problem does not lie in one party or the other,it is in the system. And our elected officials are all greedy SOBs who turn every issue into a political one that will advance their own career or make themselves more money.

Your view on the American political landscape is overly simplistic...at best.

Why don't you watch this video about our elected officials and tell me it's just those nasty Republicans.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

The political fighting between the parties is a show...

... should listen to the older, wiser countries.

Yeah, and just who would those countries be?

Why not start with all the countries with less blood in their histories, and a larger amount of aid donated to other countries.

You are hated.

Envy can be a powerful and destructive force ...

Maybe, just maybe the Tea Party is something akin to this era's version of Hitler. Hitler talked a good game at one time as well. the Tea-P's are hell bent on destruction and they are bound by their own ignorance. they are dangerous and they have the Republican party by the short hairs. we all know it and the rest of the world knows it too. hopefully in 2012, we send the tea party packing. if not we'll deal with the consequenes as will the world. I for one am thankful the world is paying attention. .......... just my two cents

And I almost missed this bit of silliness.

Alas (for the so-called "progressives"), the Republicans own the guns and the so-called "progressives" are so afraid of them that they want to take them away from everyone else..

Paraphrasing ...

Such a war would be over in minutes as so-called "progressives" never learned that you don't bring only a big mouth to a gun fight.

Does it matter if they raise the debt ceiling? Supposedly if they do,
it would only be until right after the next election. Then what happens?
We'll be more in debt. How many times can they raise it? I'll admit
I don't know how all of this works, but won't it have to come crashing
down sooner or later?

Is this really a Republican/Democrat issue? I don't think it is. They are
both equally corrupt. Sometimes I think they are only trying to make
it look like they are fighting when they are really just going about
business as usual...plotting and stealing and lying and bilking and all
of this fighting is a just for show.

No offence buddy, but you and your small brained, mindless, war-mongering, destructive, right winged freaks should listen to the older, wiser countries.

You are hated.

Funny. Most Americans hate the US Govt too.

The problem with these polls is that they reflect the people on the street in Europe’s opinion. It is well known that the majority of Europe’s countries have massive entitlement programs. In addition, they have neither the size of our population and do not take into account the size of the United States.

Also, most European counties have more than two parties. Oh, I know, the US does as well, but let’s face facts, it is the Dems and Repub’s who have the power here. Though I believe that it will be the Independent vote that determines the next election and while it will more than likely be either Obama or his challenger, it will still be the independents who decide the winner.

More and more people are starting to vote with their heads, rather than party affiliation. That will probably birth newer parties who are able to challenge the current system.

Do we have a impact on the Worlds economy?, of course, but if there is one thing I have seen throughout the world and especially Europe since the 80’s, is a definite envy of the US’s resources and power.

I have many German friends and this has been a topic of conversation many times. The one thing we do agree on though is that almost every European nation has been a power at some time in history and they now realize that they never will be again. At least in the near future.

I boil it down to penis envy. Many are actively rooting for the US to fail, but they do so at their own peril as you say, we are all intertwined nowadays. And they don’t realize it.

In the end though, I don’t care what the average European thinks about the US. What matters is do our Countries representatives and Businesses get along? That is what matters.

That's what Hitler said as well...

Not at all...

I'm just saying that it is hubris to think that forces don't lay beyond our national boundaries that we have to contend with. That's all...

And all the subsequent points you make are valid in principle.. but people rarely follow principle...

Couldn't this whole thread and all the responses be considered "political trolling"?

It looks like a 75% reduction in government spending combined with a 50% reduction in the annual budget spending from two trillion in revenue you would then have a 1 trillion dollar budget to spend on services and interest compared to the now almost 4 trillion....and that would still take 10-15 years to erase the debt 100%, we would pay down about 1 trillion per year, so if we wait it'll be far worse down the line, just simple math, it would be hard to raise taxes on money that can hide and move, yet even with increases it would still take many years, these numbers expect little to no gdp growth... a lost decade, a different way of living. I think if we stretch it out further the pain will last longer, better to just accept the reduction for a mere decade, we lived for hundreds of years without these services, i think we can handle a decade, sure it would suck, but we would be far better off than anything offered by the political parties, they just don't want to lose the power and prestige associated with unlimited spending and unlimited currency, they all need to grow up. The corporations could all get together and work on paying it down as well, but they seem more obsessed with vaccinating the poor of the world or protecting their tax breaks and sitting on their profits, by cutting government you cut corporate welfare and public services, people will probably riot whether the spending maybe cut or not, either everyone grows up and accepts less in ss checks less in war for corporations, less in everything or we go into a TOTAL collapse, at least with my plan we still have a trillion dollar government despite all the cuts, if we cannot live within those means then we probably don't deserve a free society anyways.

Older wiser Countries? Yep, how's that working out for them. They seen to be in a similiar boat as us, but their's is sinking faster.

If we manage to get it together though, you can be darn sure that they'll grab the life preservers that we throw them.

You may hate us, but that's ok. We will still have your back.

Stop falling back on the name calling if you do not have nothing constructive to say. It shows a narrow and closed mind.

It's ALWAYS Democrats that start World Wars.

If the US doesn't have enough CASH to hand out to Unions.......OBama will go get it from China.

People always DIE when Democrats are out hunting for free cash to hand out.

Democrats start wars?

Sorry, you just flunked history.

Anyway what makes any of you think we have until 2012?

The Republican Party was long ago taken over by sociopaths who simply cannot care about consequences. Physically can't care. The Republicans are, for the most part, traitors.

The US doesn't have until the 2012 elections.

We've got a month or two left before the SHTF, six months on the outside if they really start trying honestly right this instant (which ain't happenin').

By 2013 I expect the US to be gone from history, just like the USSR.

In one of the few things where you will hear me claim Obama set a good example,

Follow his one single act of good leadership of his entire political career and vote on the debt ceiling limit as he did as a Senator - That vote was a resounding NO vote!

The rest of the western world has been helped or saved by American blood and money time after time since WW1 and just as spoiled teenagers will never appreciate the sacrifice, neither will these petulant Europeans.

Fact of the matter is prevention of European collapse of late has been partially financed on the back of Americans for generations to come with pseudo-stimulus yet they still complain.

Up to me I'd close every dang base, close the embassies, cut monetary aid and send the UN packing and let you stew in your own pot for awhile till you produce your next Hitler to deal with - just don't call for help next go around.

As to the debt, why ask for a credit increase when the card is maxed, its sure not because you intend to fix your bad spending habit - this is insanity!

The Laffer curve demonstrates and time has proven anytime taxes have exceeded 19% of GDP the economic activity that produces tax revenue slows thereby reducing total receipts, the inverse is also true less tax load = more economic activity = more revenue.

The above has been proven several times these last 100 years - the problem IS spending!

Read my siggy!
