Conventional electronics are typically made of rigid, brittle materials and don't function well in a wet environment. "Our memory device is soft and pliable, and functions extremely well in wet environments -- similar to the human brain," Dickey says.

Prototypes of the device have not yet been optimized to hold significant amounts of memory, but work well in environments that would be hostile to traditional electronics. The devices are made using a liquid alloy of gallium and indium metals set into water-based gels, similar to gels used in biological research.

The device's ability to function in wet environments, and the biocompatibility of the gels, mean that this technology holds promise for interfacing electronics with biological systems -- such as cells, enzymes or tissue. "These properties may be used for biological sensors or for medical monitoring," Dickey says.

This is an interesting development. I might be wrong, but doesn't it need a processor of some sort to generate the information that the memory will store? I realize this is still in the experimental stages and that is probably being addressed. Will be fascinating to see where this leads.

Being a computer science major myself, I love to hear about new technology being released to the public! However, I'll be honest this particular story doesn't sit well with me for some reason, I have a funny feeling about this one and it doesn't feel right.

Maybe its:

I dont know this for sure but when they find a way for this technology to store a large amount of info im sure theyll be programmed to link to some sort of radio frequency that will send and receive data,similar to a cellphone or wi-fi.I found this link to a nano-technology research site thats sort of related www.micro.mavt.ethz.ch... this could be a possible cyborg power source lol!

Its awesome but scary at the same time. I have the same eerie feeling when watching the cyborg beetles the military is developing.

If you haven't watch the Japanime show Ghost in the Shell (mix of movies and a TV show), you should Netflix them. Great animation, great writing, and scary at times. Not scary in the traditional sense. But scary what the writers perceive technology will be in the digital future and how it can be turned into crime.

One scary and sick example is from "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence" movie. Here's what it is about:

gynoids—androids made in the form of young women and used as sex dolls—that have killed eight people, having deliberately been tampered with in order to trigger a police investigation. The dolls possessed a "ghost" that was created by using an illegal method using a "ghost-dubbing" machine that produces "information-degraded, high-volume copies", but killing the original in the process. Young girls were kidnapped by the Yakuza and sold to LOCUS SOLUS for this process.

Crazy and sick concept. But I wouldn't put it pass the human race doing such a thing if cyborgs and robots are a common sight. This is just another form of child pornography and human trafficking for the 21st century.
