So this is a second hand story and I need some advice ATS. Also please move this to the right forum if I'm placing it in the wrong one. I think it fits as a "conspiracy" but who knows.

Basically my friend's mother told him that she was going out earlier today. That she was just going to the store. Well hours pass and she's still not back. We can't reach her on her phone and are getting worried.

Her husband called us and told us this. Now we're not sure what to do. Obviously we're going to call the cops soon. But I could use some ideas, what could have happened?

I mean she isn't answering for anyone. She isn't at any of her close friend's houses and we just don't know where she is.

Im sorry to hear that, but all you can do is call the police, there is not too much advice to give. Hope she is OK.

Not to sound like a Dick as I hope she's ok but was she happy in the marrige and family? Also follow her credit card if used it to pay at the store or debit card.

have you called the local jails and hospitals? Seems like there must be much more to this story than you have said.
Maybe her phone is dead, or out of service, maybe her car broke down, maybe she is having an affair, maybe she needed to just get away..... or something else.

Check the sites where she frequents, most likely people at these places with be able to let you know if she has been spotted or the last time she was and who she was with. Go to her place of residence. Speak to her friends / roommates and co workers. Corner store, restaurants, local park that she may go to. Basically start at her place and think like her and go to the places where she is used to going and do the things she usually does. best of luck.

Also bring recent pictures of the person and make copies, put them up at intersections and public places.

Thanks for the tips. If she doesn't show up tonight we'll take that advice. As I said at this point I'm on the outside of this story. I just want to know possibilities of what happened. Someone stated above that it's possible she's upset. But that isn't the case. Or at least not at anyone we know.

My 2 cents would be to call the police right away. Even if a person has to be missing for a certain amount of time before a Missing Person report can go out, I assume it can be documented and on record that it was at least reported. That's my personal instinct - now everyone can come tell us I'm wrong, and hopefully explain why, if that is the case. Hopefully, the Law Enforcement folks will chime in soon and give us the official "what to do"!

Friend:

It is good to have empathy and compassion at this time for the people that you know. I do suggest however, that you do not get to emotionally attached to the situation. Pull back from it and let it evolve.

Yes this is hard!

Others are exercising their "Free Will" in their lives at this time. BTW, the police will not do anything for 24 hrs. on "missing persons".

I might suggest that you do not know, or are privileged to "all" that goes on within the "family"...We are Human's who use "EGO" to shape what others are supposed to think about us.

With what I just stated you could now say..."What a D#@k!" and dispense with every thing that I just stated.

And, this would be fair...

Regards and Nameste,

-Chung

Ummmm... ok so it's been 'hours' not even 24 hours.... is that enough to declare someone 'missing'? Sheesh she might have gone to her friends house to escape the madness of home for a while and has decided to (God forbid!!) NOT answer her phone!!... Is that a possibility?

Hope she comes home soon
Peace.

I have no advice to give you..I don't see a "conspiracy" involved either your friend needs to call the police and report her missing and let the police take care of this asking advice on whats going on from us is a bit useless how would we know..Also i hope your friends mother is ok and comes home safe..

Well as far as a conspiracy goes I just meant it doesnt fit into an off topic. Or I really needed advice and didnt want it to fall into an off topic catagory. It's a mystery...and relevent to people's interests.

As to the advice to stay distant I really am distant from the situation. I mean I'm friends with the family but I'm not really involved. I just talked to my friends dad today and my friend.

Best of luck hope she turn out alright.

I believe in most places it's 24 hours before you can report a missing person. I'd still let them know to alert them ASAP.

In the mean time;
Call hospitals
Police
Go buy the places she may have went or frequents
Check roads, if on wooded areas with steep embankments
Cell phone:does the phone say out of service vs out of location
Cell phone GPS; have location tracked
Friends and family that she may not have been in contact with for a while(if the info is known)

as sad as it is....check back here 24 hours from when you made a call to police...or 24 hours from when she is missing and then you can start doing searches and what not.

Sucks that legally the law can't do anything for a while. Hopefully she just went to the casino or something like that. Not sure where you are from or if said state even allows them.

a movie maybe ?

Ask friend of any signs she may have hinted at leaving her family. sad
