strange eclipse event need details

My friend told me that there was an eclipse one night. but the moon was acting strange instead of having a traditional eclipse. He describes the moon shrinking and returning back to normal size. I was not out to see it that night but it sounds very strange. The moon was also getting dim and bright over and over from what my friend told me he saw that night. all I know is the eclipse was scheduled to take place sometime in July 2011 official date I didn't know. If anyone knows anything about this strange eclipse me and my friend want to know what may have caused it and when it occurred.

To be fair.. When a post starts with "a friend told me..." I usually take it with a pinch of salt..

I hate to say it.. But it is just the way it goes here..

If this did occur, there would have been many pics and videos regarding this.

The moon is a constant, and there for everyone to see, i think your friend is having the mickey.

the date of this alledged occurance is one detail thats needed

I guess it looked odd from where we live. My friend described it as the moon as having a seizure. Maybe the explanation could be strange solar activity reflecting on the moon during the eclipse. eclipses are in different locations around the world. The lunar eclipse I am talking about was in northern California.
