The Dems and Obama have bent over backwards to make this happen but the GOP continues to play their little kid games of "My way or the highway!". I though this nation was about compromise and not be a one sided nation.

To the OP :
Cantor did the same exact thing but yet you remained quiet so don't dare try and justify attacking Obama yet again.

Do you guys have any idea how much pressure the presidents are under, each and every day while in office? every day, Obama has to hear about how the country is falling farther and farther behind. Everyday he has to sit and hear about how no one can reach an agreement. Its no wonder he cant get anything done. You know he cant just make a law right? it has to go through congress also. And thats where they go to die. Democrats cant agree with republicans, republicans cant agree with democrats. They all whine and bicker and nothing gets done!!! congress should have their pay cut! If you dont work, you dont get paid, end of story.

They were even recalled and ordered to remain in DC over the 4th Of July holiday and yet that wasn't incentive enough. Perhaps a remand to DC for the remainder of the talks and if nothing gets done by the time the Summer break is in mid August then there is no break either, no vacation while this is hanging over our nation's conscious. If no deal by the time Obama takes his bday week off in August something tells me that he will remain in DC during that period if no deal is reached.

Obama's obviously on a "Just For Men" regiment as evidenced by his ever chainging hair colour as POTUS is one of the 4 more stressful jobs on Earth. Those who do not understand that would've cracked in under a month if presented with a similar circumstances they'd crack.

thats exactly why the current political system doesnt work. members of congress only look out for themselves. hey we need a raise. who's for it? they then vote themselves a raise. who has the best healthy care available for no charge? members of congress. who doesn't want additional taxes imposed on the rich? members of congress. why is that? they are in that demographic. who has a guaranteed retirement package? members of congress!

why look out for middle/lower class americans? it would hurt their lifestyle and they would have to sacrifice. not gonna happen. not now...not ever. this form of govt has been around for 200 yrs and has run its course. its time to go back to the drawing board and try something different.

He has no idea he has lost the "people?"

In early 2009, that threat would have carried some weight, but not now! Let him plead his case to the people with his false fear-mongering, and toothless threats! The people are already suffering; we are already feeling the inevitable depression; we are already in the mud, we are eager to let the house of cards fall, and let the rebuilding begin!

Go ahead Mr. President. Let them call your bluff. Shut the whole dam thing down. Send the Fed employees home. Hold the checks of the soldiers and the seniors.

Lets get this show on the road!

Wow that was beautifully written Amen brother.

This will be interesting, and I agree, the american people comes first before any corporation. For some reason tho, I do hope Obama does the right thing in the end. It is not too late, he could either be remembered as a disgrace or a true hero that saved this country from becoming slaves.

whats funny is that in the posting it says that he threatens to go to the people and see what they have to say about how they will feel about not getting the money we need, but in his little speech he said the people have to many other things to worry about and should leave the issue to those that are paid to figure it out. So which is it, have us worry about it or not?

Obama should stop trying to get things his way and just agree with the Republicans on spending cuts if he really believes the alternative is going to be a lot worse. That would be the sign of a real leader instead of this constant walking out and no agreement. The democrats lost the last election real bad. The next one should be even worse if the economy continues going downhill like it currently is. Cut government spending and even throw in a few temporary tax cuts for those still working. He's not going to be around after the next election so he should stop kidding himself. However if things did dramatically improve due to congress and the white house making an agreement in time, things may improve. Republicans might start sweating if the economy improved so fast that Obama actually stood a chance of getting re-elected.

A rising dollar due to congress getting a grip on spending would help lower oil and gas prices. That by itself would provide a benefit to millions of Americans and help spur consumer spending which is the majority of the US economy. I'm starting to think Obama and Bernanke would rather gas prices be $8 a gallon with all of us unemployed. If the US defaults on our debt, history will make Obama appear to be the worst president in US history.

Polls show a vast majority of Americans support spending cuts even if it means no debt agreement by August 2nd. However other polls show the debt ceiling issue is only a minor issue to most Americans with jobs or the economy being number one. Maybe Republicans can compromise and say they'll agree to tax increases like Obama wants if he wins the election in 2012. I feel confident he won't win. Put both Democratic and Republican spending plans in effect but not becoming effective until the results of the 2012 election are known. Let both plans raise the debt ceiling in exchange for a combination of spending cuts and/or tax increases. The actual plan that will get implemented will be decided whether or not the next president is Democrat or Republican. The people decide since congress and the White House can not. Then throw in some immediate worker relief in 2012 like an extension of payroll tax reductions. Hopefully this would provide enough certainty that our debt would not be downgraded.

No one seems to have mentioned why the president walked out. No, it wasn't because he's being 'childish'.

When Obama was concluding the meeting, giving the closing remarks and talking about returning to the White House for a Thursday meeting, Cantor interrupted him and raised for the third time doing the possibility of a short-term extension, according to the Democrat. At that point, Obama had had enough and shut him down, said, "See you guys tomorrow," and left.

Source

It all boils down to which aide you want to believe in this case, the democrat or the republican. Cantor has the benefit of immediately going to the GOP television mouthpiece Fox "News" to spout his side of the story...the president has more important s#t to do.

For a conspiracy site it seems that no one is even remotely looking in the right direction! Obama is a Puppet! The Republican Party and the Democratic Party are BOUGHT and PAID FOR!! This is not about debt limits and default, this is an orchestrated diversion by the International banking cartels to devalue Chinese interests in America and slow the Chinese growth factor while pushing them towards revaluing their currencies. You are ALL just foolishly arguing the very points the spin doctors have given you. division is necessary to the plan and every one of you have fallen for it. As always, If you want answers, FOLLOW THE MONEY.

Thanks for addressing this. I was beginning to lose fate, especially when you see ATS moderators being sucked into the spun pantomime. It's as unsettling as WWF fans who think the combat is real.

It's just smoke and mirrors crying out loud. What's wrong with some you? If feel like I'm living in the world depicted in "They live" or "Idiocracry". The political system and it's representatives exist to give us the people, a false notion of freedom, bottom line. Look at the international oligarchies and corporations that dictate to the representatives.

And they said this was a hoax...

Maybe not after reading this topic

When it comes to the topic, I think this is appalling behaviour but I doubt it is as clear cut as the article makes it out to be, it never is. More of the same old, divide and conquer media at play.

I'll second that cheers. Perhaps the fact that even we, here at ATS can be divided down political lines and fight it out with each other shows how deeply the deception to the American people goes. Maybe its just that humans, with all the pain and sadness we inflict on ourselves in this world, have some sort of physcological need to believe that someone, somewhere, has our best interests at heart. I would hope by this point, most of us could see that no political party has our interests at heart. Maybe I am to negative, but I think the only way this country or any other country can ever shed the new age shackles of corruption and greed is to take every single politician out of office permanently. Replace each and every one of them with our friends and our neighbors. No one having ever held a political office ever having the right to run for an elected office again. Then once the the foxes are no longer guarding the hen house, we can start working on the corporate rats, the ones who really call the shots and pull the strings. Take away their power to influence and insure it NEVER happens again. Eisenhower warned us... but no one was listening.............

Obama is not really a puppet. The reason he is mad is because Cantor has made a few suggestions that dont please Obama all that well.

This is not just a budget issue for Obama but a political one as well, Obama wants to run for office next year.

Cantor suggested that Obama should say that he is going to race the debt limit, and if it is rejected Obama should veto. If Obama veto's the rejection Obama will still Winn by share vote, and be able to race the debt limit anyway.
But the issue Obama has with that is it becomes he's responsibility alone.

When you have a politician like Cantor who makes money if America defaults then there will be no agreement if he can help it.

Rep. Eric Cantor will profit if US suffers credit default
