so does the onus on us to not allow any actions to take place that leave us open to this kind of criticism.

how are you going to pull that off? anybody can say they are you and wreak havoc in your name. it's like an uphill battle, and it leaves everyone else open to be manipulated emotionally and mentally by the real loonies out there that think it's great fun to torture people and steal their stuff. i almost feel bad for ya and the rest of us as well. man you opened pandora's box.

There are ways. None of us is as cruel as all of us, and the greater our influence, the greater the repurcussions for un-sanctioned actions. The sanctioning is consensual, democratic in its truest meaning. Anyone can claim to be Anonymous, but it would be extremely unadvisable to do so. We do not forgive. We do not forget.

i know you've probably heard this many times before, but dear heart, you have to forgive. you don't have to forget, but if you don't forgive, it will make you ill.

I wish we could, in a world wide way of course, declare August "Hug a self serving control freak day".
I would be so happy to stare with my unwavering gaze, lovingly and deeply into their beady little eyes and ask them what the prevalent thought was they are having.

I mean maybe they would be filled with pure unmitigated joy at that point.
Can you imagine how many crimes against humanity trials would be tossed to the wayside.
ahhhhhhh

Hi, AnonYmous81

This has been subverted to become what it is today: the force for social change and freedom for all.

Sometimes soldiers do bad things. Even Anons make mistakes.

I hope you guys realize that you are beginning to sound like Hiltler's Brown Shirts and it doesn't help that you and yours seem partial to uniforms.

People are responding to you in much the same way that the German people responded to Hitler and his regime as well. They support you but that support does not seem to come from the function of their critical thinking skills. To take advantage of this you continue to repeat crap like this...

The U.S. has come a long way since the genitals of native Americans were paraded on the tips of lances.

Sure. Who is going to argue with rhetoric like that. Who would dare.
I would. F you and your divisive bullcrap. Like America needs more of this right now. We need understanding. Not destroying divisiveness. You are sounding more and more like Brown Shirts every passing moment.

When you see Anons picking up litter in your local playground, stepping in to bring food to those who have been deserted by the authorities, I hope you will be as quick to commend as to condemn.

Are you all going to do this in the Guy Fawkes masks? Because if you are I am bringing my camera.
More Brown Shirt bullcrap; out in droves pulling police call on parks and playgrounds. In between 'Freedom Marches' or some such.

Anyone can claim to be Anonymous, but it would be extremely unadvisable to do so. We do not forgive. We do not forget.

More threats of some kind? Sounds an awful lot like this Guy...

Do NOT attempt to pigeon-hole or assess Anonymous. This is a warning ScepticOverlord, for the communities benefit - if you attempt to classify, define or delimit Anonymous in any way, you will inevitably raise the ire of a part of the Anon.

The Revenant. Page 3. This thread.

So we are supposed to fear you at the same time we are supporting you in saving the world in some nebulous and undefined fashion that involves lulz and picking up trash in Guy Fawkes masks?
Okey Doke.

This member then goes on to describe how Anonymous is like the Black Bloc. Did he have that right? Do you agree? Because if that is true the whole gig is up right now. We all know how effective the Black Bloc is (otherwise known as The Police) at bringing down the hurt on the real protestors (most evident in Seattle). The Black Bloc is a Known Tool. Give it up.

Listen, Man. Those of us who were paying attention realized there was no hope left in the world when the Miller Brewing Company co-opted The Renaissance Faire back in the 80's. So we know a dog and pony show when we see one.

Lol. You accuse me of divisive bullcrap, but how is the above different from this:

We do need understanding. You're generalising about an entire, amorphous mass of people from a specific reply to the question of the response Anonymous would make to non-Anons conducting destructive h4x and releasing sensitive personal data belonging to innocent people. That is no way to engender understanding. You have already made up your mind and posted with an agenda. This has less to do with us than it does you.

As for the post on page 3, those are the terms in which that particular person chose to frame his reply. What has that got to do with me? Take that up with that poster. As I understood it, he was describing the function of anonymity within the group. The terms he used were analogous ("It is an online form of the 'Black Bloc'") and said nothing about Anonymous actually being the Black Bloc.

Let's look at two types of statements that get made frequently, usually by the same person at different times:

1. Anon is open-ended, anyone can join, you can't define it.

2. Some bad people did bad stuff but they aren't "real" anons. "Real" anons pick up trash in the park and get kittens from trees.

See how these two statements are incompatable? They can't both be true. If anon is so amorphous and leaderless and undefinable, than who are you to say the "bad guys" aren't every bit as much anon as anyone else? I don't like the way anons use #1 when they want to attack some opponant who is trying to "pigeonhole" them, and then turn right around and use argument #2 whenever anyone points out real-world facts about what is actually being done in anon's name.

When one assumes the mantle of Anonymous, it is not for personal gain. It is an act of subsuming ones identity into the hivemind.

What kind of quality control system do you have in place to ensure that ones mind has been fully subsumed in to the 'hivemind'?

Since when has 'Hive' anything been good for us?

You'd really have to experience it to understand. LOL. Its very effective though. Obviously it cannot be completely effective, but the non-anons stick out like sore thumbs and don't linger long. I'm forbidden from recruiting here, and have no intention of doing so, so I couldn't even suggest paying us a visit, but I fail to see another way of making you understand. Be that as it may. I have things which must be attended to. I've done what I can here.

See you all anon.....

How about teh /b/ees? Where'd we be without the /b/ees? We'd only have four years left if you listen to Einstein.

I'm just glad that ATS wasn't censoring us. No topic should be off limits.... although I really am sick of Elenin threads.

I actually thought anonymous was replaced by( I.P. Address.)
By the way, I am very proud to be apart of ATS and will support it anyway I can.

Thank you for allowing me to be apart of it.

While I can appreciate the apparent long-term goals of the movement -- meaningful social change for the betterment of all -- I can't necessarily condone some of the more extreme methods, or some of the more recent commercial/consumer "targets." But still, that's all open for discussion.

Are you assuming their long term goals are honorable and above board? How are you in a position to make assumptions about the movement's actual motives?

In fact, I spent our own money to travel to Washington DC, and spoke directly to the Policy Director of the Congressional Energy and Commerce committee (the most powerful congressional committee) about the intense wrongness associated with the upcoming legislation that would require ISPs to retain everyone's precise Internet history for a minimum of 18 months

Major privacy infringers such as Google and Facebook collect and store a user's entire online history for how long, and you're spending time and money fighting a comparatively insignificant law which proposes to store user data for 18 months? Hey, it's your time and money.

They don't attack governments. They steal GI Joe's email password 90 thousand times. That is gonna change the world.

Now this is very insulting. Being a VID (Very Important Doll), GI Joe would be a prime target for such malicious attacks. Minimizing GI Joe's VID status only serves to play into the hands of TPTB.

While the Government is licking its censorship chops, the companies which are being "hacked" are receiving a lot of free publicity. Seems like a formula for a win-win situation to me. And as usual, the winners are .GOV and .CORP...

Even Sony was handed a convenient excuse to pass the buck and shut down at the exact same time they needed to improve a severely faulty online network.

It's not possible for Google or Facebook to know/collect a user's entire online history. Your ISP is the ONLY source that has that data, and the US government is very close to requiring them to store and retain that information for a minimum of 18 months.

This disappointing evolution of activist organizations is par for the course. I don't know about Anonymous, but I do know about the Tea Party. I am an organizer of a regional aspect of the Tea Party in Texas. I live in Ron Paul's district.

I saw a youtube video of Bill O'Rielly claiming he's a Tea Party kind of guy! I thew up in my mouth a little. In truth, the Tea Party is made up of independent people and it has no agenda beyond derailing a socialist National thrust or an International facsist thing being dreamed of by the banksters and their UN politican megalomaniacs.

People - inidividuals associated with the Tea Party in Texas - are honing in on police state abuses at the moment and it will be a big deal for candidates during the election whether they want to admit it or not. The GOP has been where we began building a power base but if the GOP fights off the progress of the Tea Party vision for small government and constitutional freedom and continues on with the international warmonger/police state thing , they won't be in power for long. We are targeting our war mongering, socialist opponents in the GOP at election time by running canidates against them. (You want to run?) The DNC is so committed to socialism and international rule, I don't think the Tea Party will ever go there.

From my experience it is safe to say the Tea Party members are committed to repealing the million page leglislation of Obamacare which no one read. The Tea Party candidates have not totally forgotten why they got elected but it does not take DC long to absorb the brains and hearts of politicans. Tea Party voters are in constant touch with our Tea Party elected leaders.

So, what I am saying, is that the Tea Party takes place behind the scenes with people working individually and with other groups to make a dent in the abusive centralized government we have now. In the meantime there are a lot of blowhards to try to speak in the name of the Tea Party and they don't mean squat to the members. They are not a party political group; they are a group committed to constitutional liberty. They are surely not belonging to those who are speaking for them when that person is not advocating radical change. The Tea Party is going to target socialists and domestic and foreign warmongers in the GOP in every election. We have to get rid of the dead wood especially those who are still living through the trauma of 911 and Katrina. They are hysterical police state nuts.

The Tea Party is for constitutional freedom and Bill O'Rielly and Sarah Palin would not know American freedom from a goat. If this economy crashes, immediately the banksters, socialists in both parties and globalists will go for the jugler of the American people and put out a bunch of fear and threats if we don't do what they tell us to do. That is when we will need the Tea Party to hit the streets again and fight that attack of the elite off and go for change that re-instates the constitution, with it's amendments, as it was orginally intended. So please, don't abandon us. Don't be cynical. We are a leaderless organic movement and force to be dealth with as you saw during the Obamacare mess. We have to keep trying or we will lose everything as is planned for us.

I was extremely skeptical of Anonymous at first, but in the last few days, all the negative comments fueled my curiosity to check it out. Over the last 3 days I have done a lot of reading there and on here. I have come to this conclusion.

Anonymous holds many similarities to ATS. Both are suspected by some, of being CIA or infiltrated by the CIA and other alphabet agencies. Many of the same topics discussed here are discussed there. Both have a variety of people whom I may or may not disagree with. Just like here, anyone no matter their background can join. Which means you are going to get good with the bad. The actions of some are not necessarily the actions of the whole. Say a group of ATSers got together committed a random act under the guise of ATS that got a lot of negative attention from the press. Does that mean we are all responsible?

People are attracted to Anonymous because they are doing something, People see whats happening in the world, and they don't know what to do. They just know that something needs to be done. Maybe what they are doing will backfire maybe not, but at least in the end, they still tried. If you don't like their methods, instead of sitting around complain about it, start your own movement with like minded people, with methods you find acceptable.

Your points are very valid as far as the stop whining and do something then , factor and i love the bit where you remark that so what if it doesn't work , at least you tried

The , at least you tried part is the key . Its a understanding based in many ancient teachings of preforming ones own duty even if done faulty rather than not trying at all.
Loose interpretation .
