I wouldn't doubt that some people may try the boo the Americans thing, but it wont last long, and it will make them look pretty crappy. I am going to watch @ 8pm (my time) for what happens.

I think taking out frustrations over our countries foreign policy on our atheletes is awful but alas expected. They do not control what America does around the world but they are the most visible representatives of this country on the international media and people will express their anger.

Our folks should hopefully have been warned of this, in fact I heard George senior met with them today and told them to hold their heads high.

Our media should NOT cover this up. Let all Americans see the reaction the world has to us, and then decide if it is worth it to continue to make America safe.

Let's just not see a cover up.

[If they don't put limits on the commercialism they'll soon have athletes wearing those goldenpalace.com paint on tattoos like I've seen in boxing matches.

You'll see events start changing their name:

100 meter "Road Runner Highspeed Internet" Dash
400 meter "Evian" Freestyle Swim
"Sprint Long Distance" Long Jump

I shouldn't say much more cause I wouldn't be suprised if these came true.

Those are some good ones.

Hopefully there are no advertising execs here.
They might use those ideas.

I really hope that the world can set its differences aside for the Olympic games and take them for what they are supposed to be. The worlds athletes can not and should not be held accountable for the decisions made by their governments. Can't we all just enjoy some good old fashioned sports people?

Well Russell Crowe is doing what he always does.

One of the messages was from actor Russell Crowe, who wrote: "At the starter's gun, unleash hell."

Its wrong to boo American Atheletes
They are there representing the American PEOPLE not the the American Government, and the American people are decent hardworking folk. After all the hard work those Atheletes have been through they deserve better than that. Its the hight of their career and anyone who Boo's any Nation should be booted from the Stadium. Period.

Wow. Some ATS members are quite the hypocritical, flip-flopping, two-faced b******s! You can't even talk about a Burger King Crossanwich without the ignorant, xenophobic, French bashing to commence. But if someone doesn't like us it's a tragedy, followed by fits of moral outrage and condemnation!

Mate, you will find on another thread, the one about the french taking over in Afganistan, you would see that i defended the french when people started french bashing. Not everyone is xenophobic. I think that anyone who steriotypes any nation, even in jest needs to adjust their veiw of the world and history too.

We will find out one way or the other in a few minutes when the US team walks out. I would be surprised if anyone actually booed them though. I am also a little surprised at some peoples reactions to the suggestion.

Well, if our athletes ARE booed every time they play the US National Anthem, I hope they boo twenty times a day...that'll mean tons of gold for our boys and girls...

Let 'em boo all they want....Winning is the best revenge.....

Hopefully when it happens, and it will, it will open some American eyes to the level of Anti-Americanism that is gripping the world.

With sufficient numbers of booing, it might show some more ignorant Americans that YES, the world DOES hate you, and it's because of your corksmoker of a President.

I'm pretty sure that a level headed American doesn't need booing to realize that the rest of the wrold hates us. Just turn on the news or read a paper. The secrets out.

It has been funny just picking up on this thread (I am from UK btw) - two pages of posts saying "they're gonna boo us" "horrible foreigners hate us" "hope they boo us - it means we are doin' great" etc etc

And what?

Cheers for the US team on TV and relief here that no flag burning took place during the middle of the Stars 'n Stripes.

Look at yourselves for a couple of minutes instead of everyone else. The Greeks are firm allies of the US - have been for decades. Most of the Greek basketball team is made of US nationals.

Who was gonna boo you? The atheltes? No. The Greek crowd? No - the Iranian Olympic delegation? (4 people).

Hopefully, the rest of the world is nowhere near as ignorant as you. If the world DOES hate US because of our corksmoker president who most of us dislike more than you do, because we have to live under him, then the world is smoking by far more cork than our idiot president. It is your ignorance that will see this president re-elected, I dislike Bush with a passion, but would almost like to see him re-elected just to spite YOU. But I do not hate Canada because there are a few brain-dead canooks like yourself bashing my entire country because one man stole an election. And I'm quite sure there will be no booing, sorry.
