What's some cheap and long-lasting food to stock up on for a SHTF scenario?

Also...like it was said earlier spices are uber important. I made some killer dishes of Lentils and Spinach over rice last night from canned spinach and tomatoes, dried lentils, with the only fresh ingredients being onions. I used a bunch of spices like Turmeric, Cumin, Ginger, Corriander, Fenugreek. All stuff I keep a large supply of on hand. No way you can make good food of beans and rice without spices.

Didn't see anyone say it yet so; Jell-o. It's a good source of quick energy, and easy to make almost anywhere. I do believe it lasts a good while too. Pick your favorite flavor and have at it.
