Threaten the old and tired, instead of the worthless and lazy. (SS vs welfare)..this is wrong.

Is our Dear Leader admitting that there is NO Social Security Trust Fund? Or is he just having a little political fun at the Seniors' expense?

MSNBC video clip of the CBS interview

Does anyone else see the evil delight in his eyes and the uncontrolled smirk as he's stating this?

It is such a stupid thing for someone who wants re-elected to say...... yet..... he did.

He's got plans. You can see it in his expression.

Anyone see any horns sprouting yet? I need to watch closer.

Try reading a few of the other posts I made in this thread, it is my opinion that the Republicans of the past have been just as guilty of debt-spending as their Democratic colleagues. But I believe now they can and must cut the spending or we will cut them, they know it. Democrats do not see it that way, they (and some Republicans) think this is free money and by attacking the rich (how dare they buy jets and create jobs through their purchases) somehow our country will be better off.

Well I am sorry. Our government has a serious addiction to spending, like a crack head. Do you get more money for the crack head so he does not run out of crack or do you take away his money so he cannot buy crack anymore?

And no I do not see Republicans as innocent but more as the closest damn thing we have to people willing to even listen to what we have to say.

Really? Cut taxes to RICH people? Just the 2% will be on that list.. are you in that 2%? that surely doesnt imply "The people". All that 'excrement' about rich spending that money to get more employees is bs, and that is proven by looking at the employment rate chart in the Tax cut Bush Era. Most Republicans are one of the most hypocrites human beings I have ever seen. All they want IS YOUR MONEY

Its from an interview, CBS News w/Scott Pelley--Barry Obama said 'he cannot guarantee that Social Security checks go out on August 3 if the Republicans...' Blablablah.

Any bets on if the Emperor's nose was pointing skyward as he gave his edict?

That is exactly what has gotten me so angry over this. The fact that it was even mentioned by our President screams of fear mongering and our elders deserve way better than that.

Worse yet, he knows it is a lie. He knows that the first response would be military furloughs and delay in payments. Next would be some government branches cutting back or furloughing employees. Social Security and other Social benefits would be at the end of a long list.

In my opinion that makes it even more wrong to say! It was obvious political pandering, fear-mongering to get the Seniors to apply pressure to the Republicans.

My personal (albeit preliminary research: this stuff can be hard to truly track) indicates that jobs being created by tax cuts for the rich are being created all right. In other countries.
I believe we should tax the heck out of them and then give them a very solid rebate for every respectable job created and filled by an American Citizen and a fair wage.
If they create enough good jobs to rebate all the way down to zero then we should throw them a parade for being a job creator.
If they don't create jobs or create them someplace else. Tax them till they begin to feel the pain hitting the rest of the country.

Political suicide for Obama. This is an outright lie. Social security still pays for itself and thus does not need borrowing to stay currently solvent. Not one dime of anyone's tax money or federal loan money has ever gone to pay for social security. All the problems with social security are in the future and won't be a problem if we can get some economic recovery and a few small tweaks to the system.

I think at this point Obama knows there is
no 2nd term in store for him so he has
nothing to lose politically.

I'll bet you he has already been promised
a secure position in the UN Security Council
so there is no pressure on him for his threat
to seniors today.

But the biggest obstacle remaining for Obama
right now is avoiding impeachment and/or a revolt
and/or Military Coup.

Let's look at the evidence. They are all at fault. If it was just Obama threatening this, he'd be gone, but the fact that nobody is calling for his impeachment or resignation proves that there are many devious people involved, so let's stop arguing about who's at fault. It's a waste of energy.

We need to start talking about how we'll show our disapproval in the event that the poor and handicap don't receive their Social Security.

Do we all stop throwing our quarters into the toll booth bins? Do we write to the White House? Protest in front of our City Halls and Social Security offices? Do we shut our lights off in our house every night at 8pm for one hour to demonstrate that several elderly and handicap will be without power now?

I'm serious. What is the best way to show our displeasure and anger? Maybe we'll have to demonstrate with several of these suggestions, but I'm dead serious. August is fast approaching. I can't even believe that it's July.

So, folks, what's your suggestion(s)?

EDIT to Add: Isn't it illegal to make idle threats against one's livelihood? If I was the owner of a company and threatened to withhold an employee's paycheck for any reason, wouldn't I be shown the door or even sued by the employee?

The Trillion $$$ bailout was done on GW's watch, voted for and supported by the repubs, not Obama.

Obama saved us billions by putting requirements that the banks wouldn't be able to payout bonuses if they didn't pay back the loans first, or else they would still be holding on to that money.

Obama is also going after the Wall Street crooks who pulled these massive scams, while the repubs would turn a blind eye to their crimes.

then why did you not return the $3000 you felt you were not entitled too? just asking.
If you did, good for you the country needs more like you. Yes some tax laws, and loop holes need to be shut off and closed.

Unemployment Compensation is paid for too..... but they've nearly taken that away already also. It does not matter to those in power who are completely out of touch with the reality of the U.S..

LOLz...I only read the transcript (invisioning his chin/nose tilted towards the sky)...but evil smirk and twinkling eyes? What a visual...

Given that most Social Security beneficiaries were alive during. WWII, Korea and the Cold War (all times when socialist/communist agression was thwarted) Mr. Obama must see this as "pay back."

I bet his fellow travellers at Columbia and Harvard are high fiving in the faculty lounges.

In your dreams.

Obama will walk in the next POTUS election, because all the repub candidates are a bunch of wack jobs.

The repubs will most likely loose the House again, and the demos will hang onto the senate.

Repubs created our huge economic mess, and the people have not forgotten.

How do you propose they go about getting ‘your money’? Do they tax it away? No that is the Democrats. Do they make you buy health care or face a fine? No that is the Democrats. Do they want to ‘spread the wealth’ with your money? No that is the Democrats. Do they want to create more social welfare programs? No that is the Democrats.

Well I’ll be damned, it does not appear they want the government to take my money but the Democrats do. And no I am not one of those “we should pay no taxes” types of people I just do not believe the excrement that spews from the mouths of class warriors. I do not subscribe to a philosophy of envy and jealousy of someone who has been more successful than me nor do I demand someone be forced to give their money to another person who did not earn it. In the world outside of politics that is called theft, sorry I am not pro-crime.

But do I support raising taxes? Yes and the reason for that is we are in a war. There should always be a war tax but not just on the poor but on everyone. Perhaps that would reduce our time spent blowing up people in foreign lands, taking others oil, and removing a man from power who posed no threat to us. Also I support a raise in taxes because it is my humble opinion that deficits are more destructive for an economy than taxes.

The Republicans should have stuck with the $4 trillion deal but they did not and that does not mean I will abandon them because we still need drastic cuts before class warfare.

I totally agree with you, its their fault jobs aren't being created because they keep on moving their factories overseas because is cheaper. I completely agree with you.

I hear that a lot, but nobody has ever spent like Obama! The $1 trillion bailout, the QE1,2,3, the monstrosity of a Healthcare Bill. Those were not continuations of anything, those were Obama's and his alone!

The Fed couldn't even explain why they did QE1,2,3. When asked directly, by my brother at a Fed meeting in Kansas City, they could only say that it was one of their many tools at their disposal. When pushed on the issue, they could not give any reasoning as to why they chose that approach above the other more popular and more widely used approaches.

The Bush administration’s policy must take responsibility for much of the negative swing in the deficit. They handed the Obama administration a country in horrible shape. Spending increased every year through 2008 since the war started. $730 billion of that spending was attributed to military expenditures. That is about 24% of the government spending. It is safe to assume that the war was a significant contributing factor to the massive deficit. The seven years of high war costs are part of the Bush administration, not Obama. The difference between Bush's spending and Obama's spending is that Bush fund the war through emergency supplemental’s.
Also, rising unemployment and slowed GDP lead to less tax revenue which also increases the federal deficit, all of which happened the harshest since Obama got into office.
